Keurig K-cups

OK - I'm looking at the Keurig but wondering about something.....it says that you can pick the size of mug brewed with one of the k-cups. If you choose a smaller size can you brew it thru twice?

Ive often wondered about this with the K cups. It seems like a lot of coffee gets wasted if you are only brewing small cups.

We love our Keurig!! We always get our at Bed, Bath & Beyond with a coupon. Usually I have the 20% off coupon which makes them $7.99/box plus tax which comes out to about 42cents with our state tax. But occassionally I get a $5 off a $15 purchase which is 2 boxes so it's $2.50 off each box and it's a better deal.

The only bad thing about Bed, Bath & Beyond is that their selection is very limited. They only carry certain cups (the ones that come with the machine, I think). So to try new things, I usually order them from online. You can also order 5 cups for $3 from Keurig to try out flavors.

I like the Green Mountain Pumpkin Spice, the Caribou Daybreak, and Gloria Jeans Butter Toffee. There were lots of other good ones that came in the sample box, but those are the ones I buy regularly.

As for brewing through it twice, I've never tried it with the K-machine, because I generally brew the largest cup. But I did it with our Senseo pod machine several years back. Not really a good idea with the pods. The second cup always came out weak.

I usually brew it on the large mug setting, because most of my mugs are big. I have a larger Disney mug that only fills half way on the large setting, so I brew it twice through the small setting. I also brew on the small setting twice when using a larger travel mug (don't do this with the Disney refillable mugs though, they overflow).

I've re-used a k-cup, brewed on the smaller setting, to make to separate cups of coffee, and the second comes out weaker than the first. It's not going to come out exactly like the first cup. If you don't like a strong cup of coffee, you might be OK with this.

I'll say it again, though...invest in the "My K-cup". They are a little pricey, but worth it. You can buy Starbuck's or Dunkins or even just plain old Maxwell House and brew it in your "my k-cup"...cheaper than the k-cups. It will make your k-cups last longer. We use the "my k-cup" when we have more time to spare, and the regular k-cups when we are short on time.

Okay, after going back and forth with myself for an hour, I just got the Keurig on QVC right now. :yay: I really had to talk myself into this one -- I kept thinking of every other thing I could do with the $$ -- but it's so perfect for me. And the times I make coffee at home, I would love a really awesome cup of coffee... I'm worth a perfect cup of coffee, right?? :thumbsup2 DS is excited about the cocoa k-cups, and I can't wait to get me some Gloria Jean's k-cups! Couldn't have done this without the 5 easy-pays, so yay QVC for that. Merry Christmas to me! :santa:

You are totally worth a good cup of coffee! LOL I think you'll enjoy the Keurig! We LOVE ours and would be lost without it. My DH used to buy coffee at Wawa every morning before we got our machine, and now he just brews it at home every a.m. He likes having choice and variety! :thumbsup2

I've found the best place to get it is amazon. I use the subscribe and save feature and get my favorite flavor, Timothy's parisian nights, for $17 and change for 48. I do the amazon prime every year, so pay nothing extra for shipping. I'd say the average price on amazon is $20 - 22 for 50 k-cups. I believe the subscribe and save is 10 - 15% savings on top of that. You can decide how often you'd like the shipments and delay whenever you want. I always wind up having them ship it early.

i totally agree with the "my k-cup" i bought mine when i received my machine (2yrs ago) and i love it.....i still buy the k cups (dh drinks the hazelnut) and i love the nantucket from green mountain for a quick cup of good coffee in the evening. Also i bought a bag of green mountain pumpkin spice and use "my k-cup" for when i want a flavored cup...
BUT i still brew a pot in the morning cause we drink so much coffee!

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I really like the idea of being able to try several different types before I buy an entire box, but I looked at the Kenoza site and it looks like it is going to be $9.00 in shipping for 8 cups. Do they ever offer free shipping??

bigcatcoffees lets you create your own variety packs - 5 of each choice in a box of 25.
