Is it possible to borrow a kettle to make tea in the studios at OKW? I know they come with a coffee maker, but I've tried making tea in one of those, and it... well it wasn't exactly successful.

TIA :thumbsup2

There is no stove in a studio.
You could try heating your water for tea in the microwave though.
My DH and kids drink tea, so we bought refillable mugs and got tea at Good's to Go every morning.

I have a feeling OKWLover is talking about an electric kettle. These are very common in the UK (I have one after seeing them there and love it) They are not common in the US and I don't think DVC has any to loan. Sorry!

I would probably buy a larger size measuring/mixing bowl, and use that to heat the water in the microwave. We usually use that, even at home for tea. WE bought one once when we did grocery shopping in Orlando, and I just left it in the unit for the next person to use.

Ah, sorry, I didn't make myself clear. I forgot that, with the difference in power supplies, it's actually quicker to heat water on the stove in the States, whereas over here an electric kettle is quicker. You'd think I'd have all these things sorted out by now, but I guess not. Thank you for the suggestion of microwaving water; I hadn't thought of that one, and I must say it's a genius idea!

Thanks guys, I knew I could rely on my fellow DISers to find a way around the problem!

This subject came up a few weeks ago and someone posted that if you use the coffee maker to make a pot of hot water to use for tea, you should remove the plastic filter holder from the coffee maker. If left in place, the pot of hot water will pick up a bit of a coffee taste as the hot water runs through the plastic filter holder, enough to affect the taste of the tea.

Also, Florida water can taste pretty bad and the taste gets worse when the water is heated. The water at some resorts is better than others. You might want to pick up some bottled water to use for tea. If you won't have a car, you can purchase large bottles of water at the resort grocery stores. It will be more expensive there, but if you're only buying a few bottles it won't be too bad.

We tried to use the in-room coffee maker at POFQ when we were there last, but it just took so long to get the water hot. I don't know, maybe we weren't using it correctly, or something. But thanks for the tip on removing the filter, I'll remember that one.

Thanks, we might just do something like that. It's only a little more expensive than one of the refill cups, and doesn't involve trailing half way across the resort to get some tea.

If you do heat the water in the microwave, and you've never done it before, be very careful. Let the water sit after heating. It superheats in the microwave and sometime will "erupt" in the middle when you move it -- with the potential of giving you a nasty burn.

Thank you for the warning Pam, I didn't know that so you may just have saved my from burning myself. I'm thinking about just bringing a spare kettle and a plug adapter from home. It'll be a bit bulky but we can always pack stuff inside it and, for a proper cup of tea in the morning, I think it'll be worth it! :thumbsup2

:thanks: for all the help everyone!

You can also buy a microwavable tea pot at the big shop in Epcot, and then you will have a souvenier, too! You can take it home, and remember how hard it was to brew tea in the US! We usually heat the water in the cups in the microwave. They are definitely microwaveable.:thumbsup2

Hmmmm a microwavable teapot, eh? Thanks for telling ma about that one, I might look into it. There's just something about microwaving water for tea that doesn't quite sit right. But then, if it's that or no tea, I know which one I'd choose!

Thanks again everyone!
