Ketchup and butter honey boo boo

Ah, I see. So they're eating it for the flavor.

I saw something about this "recipe" the other day and I assumed they were eating that because it was cheap, not because they liked the flavor. (I have known many people who say they ate ketchup as pasta sauce growing up because they were poor.) I simply couldn't understand this because making your own sauce (or even buying jarred sauce) would be less expensive than buying Country Crock and ketchup.

As an aside, I don't eat ketchup at all (not even on hot dogs or hamburgers) or any butter substitutes, so this recipe sounds really awful to me since those are the top two foods that are the must disgusting to my palate. (Of course, I eat all sorts of things that others find unappealing, so I would never make anyone feel bad for eating something they like.)

I think those people are pulling your leg. You can buy jarred sauce for cheaper than bottled. DH says crap like that all the time. "We were so poor..." just being silly. They ate those no-bake oatmeal cookies because they were too poor to turn the oven on. Blah, blah, blah.

I watched the clip and it sounded like she was simply doing it the way SHE was taught growing up. It seemed normal to her. It may have started as an invention of necessity with an empty cupboard, but became a family favorite. I remember when jarred sauce became a pantry staple - I think it was in the 70's? This ketchup/butter sauce could have become the norm in their family before then and then got passed down.

I find it kind of amusing that all of the horrible stuff that seems to be on that show, people are up at arms about noodles!

Reminds me of the Duggars and the tator tot casserole. DIS people seemed to lose sleep over that recipe!:rotfl:

All I can say is Holy smokes! :scared1: That is the first time I saw that show from that clip. Now I know why I don't have regular t.v.

Okay, I can't believe I'm about to write this, but here it goes...

I was flipping channels the other night when suddenly I saw Honey Boo Boo. Up until this point, I'd only seen commercials and clips of her and her Mom on Toddlers and Tiaras.

I was busy on my laptop, (ok... :rolleyes1 I was reading here at the Dis,) so wasn't paying close attention.

When I looked up, Alana, (Honey Boo Boo) was sitting in a chair, talking to the camera. Then... she sneezed. Yep, you guessed it... came right out both nostrils.

Now, I've been around tons of little kids, (sick little kids, too.) I have 5 of my own and owned and operated a daycare for more than 15 years. And while I'd rather wipe bottoms than noses, :confused3 it happens.

Here's what I don't get...
Why did they air that?
Why couldn't, wouldn't someone get that child a tissue?

I also saw the "breath smelling game," as well as the mother crawling onto a bed and finding toe nails in the bed.

I won't be watching that show again, so that takes care of my problem, but honestly, I don't understand why this show would appeal to anyone. :confused3

Oh gross. That makes me incredibly nauseated just looking at that!! Ketchup makes me shudder...

I don't put ketchup on noodles, but I can't eat scrambled eggs without it!

Ah! I LOVE ketchup on my scrambled eggs or hash browns!!!! I've had buttered spaghetti before because we didn't have any pasta sauce. I like it. I also love ketchup mixed with mayo and seasoning.

Want to talk about unhealthy my husband who's parents are from Germany brought him up eating noodles with bacon grease on them. I also make some awsome spaggheti and sauce and most times make my sauce from scratch. Since I refuse to make his spaggheti with bacon grease he adds ketchup to his noodles. This is coming from someone who never lived in the south.

Let me just say I am thoroughly disgusted. Not just with that "recipe" but with the whole family.

Seriously? I am really hoping these people were acting for the camera and that they don't normally live like that.

Throwing spaghetti on your kitchen cabinet??? I'm sorry, but that's just downright gross.

This show has to be staged... it HAS to be, lol.

Most every reality show is staged or I should say all. People are told what to do, how to act, what to say etc. it's TV folks. We don't want to watch a normal family eat and hang out in their lives!

I can't believe I'm going to defend them again, because I've never watched and on the commercials they really do seem gross, but when I was a kid another thing we LOVED was throwing spaghetti on the wall to see if it was done. There are goofy things we did as a family that we don't really advertise, but were fun. I've recreated those same things for my kids. I KNOW I've shown them the spaghetti on the wall trick. They recognize that it's not dinner party behavior, just a goofy thing.

There are lots of things that horrified me about that clip, but the spagetti sticking to the wall is something I remember fondly from my childhood, just like when I "invented" squirting ketchup on buttered noodles. My dad showed us the pasta "trick" and we all thought it was hilarious. (Except for mom, who knew she'd lost control of her kitchen!) He's a physician and didn't seem to think it would kill us.

They do seem like a very happy family that spend time together.

How about sucking the noodle and swallowing it almost all the way and pulling it back out. Or sucking noodle through nose and pulling out of mouth. Seen it all and was quite funny!

I used to have chipped beef on toast known as $&@$ on a shingle. Even had mushroom soup on toast when little and no cash around. Tons of Mac and cheese for dinner too!

I have never known anyone who DIDN'T throw spaghetti on the cupboard to check if it was done! My grandma taught my dad that, he taught me. And I can guarantee anytime I have been over at someone's house for a spag dinner (quite a few times...) they have done the same thing!

The throwing the spaghetti on the cupboard is nothing new or specific to them. My husbands family did it that way, except they threw it on the wall. (Hubby would go for the ceiling when he had his bachelors pad! That was not allowed after we got married cause he didn't want to go up and get it! :rotfl2:)

After watching the clip and seeing the small one sample the "sauce" I think it is something they like and the mom said it was handed down to her. My grandma used to make mac n cheese mixed in tomato soup when I was little and alot of people think that is gross too, but I like it!

To be honest I avoid this show because although the family appears to be having fun together some of it is just strange to me. Although I am sure some of what we do would be strange to others too! ;) I do NOT like reality shows like this. They are like watching train wrecks waiting to happen or in the middle of happening.
