We are spending valuable time on this board arguing over politics
when our time and energies are needed elsewhere. The campaigning has officially begun. Horrific arguments on this board
are convincing no one and there ARE people to be convinced.
I'm gonna be DISing much less from now on as my Moms4Kerry
group is organizing a rally on the StateHouse lawn , my neighborhood Kerry group is having it's first meeting this weekend, I'm registering people to vote at the grocery store
now and I'll be canvasing for votes, registration and money as soon as school starts. Can you find an activity that will help
John Kerry get elected? It's much more productive and these
folks here are a lost cause even if it is fun to bait them. :jester:

I'm gulity, gulity, guilty of getting into these posts. I'm really
going to try to get on with the important stuff at hand. Won't
you join me?

You're absolutely right, it is important to get involved and with more than just posting on these boards and voting.

I'm doing political volunteer work for the first time in my life, it's that important.

It's a lost cause where I live, but I'm doing it anyway.

I have no illusions about changing anyone's mind on these boards. This is purely entertainment. As you say, getting down in the trenches is what will get Kerry elected this fall.

Thanks for the positive post!

Giving them a run for their money in the "red" states will help
us in the "swing" states. It diverts attention, money and
bodies. Keep on for Kerry and know that whatever you do is
helping the whole country!!!

Although it may not help you really: A vast majority over here in Europe keeps their fingers crossed for you and is hoping that John Kerry succeeds.
On of the first things I'm going to buy during our upcoming USA-trip will be a 'Support Kerry'-T-shirt ::yes::

Gotta say, I'm totally with peachgirl on this one; I'm more active in this election than I've ever been before (but not as active as I'd like to be) but don't view my activites on this board as anything other than entertainment. :)

You're absolutely right and when DD starts kindergarten in a few weeks I'll have Wednesdays all to my self. I may just call the local Kerry office and see if I can volunteer. Thanks for the inspiration.

I agree with both Shortbun and Peachgirl. Yes, we all need to direct some of our energy toward our local Kerry campaigns as Shortbun mentioned. Given the strength and determination of many Kerry supports on these boards, I have little doubt that that is already happening.

The shrub supporters on this board really provide a great deal of entertainment as Peachgirl mentioned. Am I trying to change their minds? No, of course not. Their undying love of the shrub will withstand even the most blatant of poor leadership. I mean really, your administration finds itself in a scandal in which the torture and abuse of prisoners is found to be widespread and all of a sudden you're willing to “support the use of torture in certain circumstances” because, after all, human rights and torture is never a “black and white thing?” You’re a “true fiscal conservative” and yet your support of the shrub only grows stronger as he creates record deficit after record deficit?

blah, blah, blah...

 right back at ya!

Must have hit a nerve close to home. :)

BTW, doesn't it feel great to live in a state that's going blue this year? I think so!!! :wave2:

I find the name calling and making fun of looks on both sides offensive.

I rarely read the political threads anymore-- sometimes I'll look at the very beginning but I know they will have deteriorated by the second or third page.

So-like I was saying, it IS fun to bait the Bush supporters
and entertaining, as has been said BUT

Do you guys think you can keep these folks so busy that
they will forget to vote on November 3rd ;) or what!?
Take your hand off the mouse and call the
DNC or the local Kerry office right now and tell them
you have all this time to donate. We need more and more
mobilization if we are going to make this election the
serious mandate it should be.

How interesting. I take a break from doing just what shortbun is advocating and find this thread. Like others, I am more active than I have ever been. It is incredibly exciting being a part of democracy in action. Like many I was moved by the way so many "little people" were standing up and making a contribution of time and effort. The unsurpassed amounts of small donations trickling in at a steady pace. People who felt they "just had to do something". And as the pace quickened people began to realize they can make a difference. I have never witnessed anything like it before.
