I just read a thread about a stroller being stolen. This will be our first time with kids and I tend to over pack. I will have hubby with a backpack that has diapers/wipes, 1st aid kit ect... and we will have a soft sided cooler with our water and food for the day.
Can anyone help an over packer not over pack and do you bring backpacks on the rides? Is there anyway to keep a stroller safe?

Not really. You walk away from it and the stuff in it and anyone who wants it or the stuff in it could get what they want.

Put all the stuff you intend to take with you to the park and cut it in half. You can buy water and drinks. You can buy food and snacks. You can get medical help (first aid) at each park. From the time our son was six, he carried his own backpack (a little one, but it was his). We never took a backpack with us. If it didn't fit in a pocket or we couldn't flop it over a belt or tie it around the waist or hang it around our neck, it didn't go to the park.

You can bring a backpack on any rides. I've taken one on just about everything. Don't leave anything in a stroller that you'd be devastated to lose. I cringe when I see cameras, purses, and phones left in strollers.

I wear a cross body bag(baggalini) and keep things that the world would end if we lost. Cards, camera, money, the kids blankets etc!

Change of clothes, wipes are in the backpack that DH wears/leaves in the stroller!

I have three young kids (4, 2.5, 12 mon) so we have a backpack that holds everything except cold food. DH wears that onto rides and I wear the baby. The stroller was fine last time, we just decorated it so we could find it

same here. We have a nicer Disney backpack that we take on rides (and have used since before we had kids) and a cheapy little backpack that we keep the baby stuff in that we leave in the stroller.

Also- the seat on our stroller is ripping and DH accidentally ripped off the seat recline adjuster, but it's still functional so I can't justify getting a new stroller. If anyone takes it- well, I am looking for an excuse to buy a new one anyways!

We got back a month ago and at first I was worried abt stroller being taken but after an hr realized that there were tons of strollers like ours. I never left anything behind but towards the end left popcorn tubs things like that and never had issue. Even had a giant bday balloon from castle which is rare. Thought for sure we would loose that. But we were fine.

We never had a problem with the stroller. We would leave things I would consider replaceable in it but would take everything else with us (cameras and purses) never had a thing stolen.

We've never worried about our stroller either. The cast members do often move them during shows, so make sure you know where to find yours!

I always brought our backpack on all the rides.

We've taken our stroller on 5 trips and a friend has borrowed it for Disney 3 times. We normally do 7 park days per trip, so that's a lot of times in the parks. (We also sometimes do SW/US/IOA in that 7). We've had zero issues. Our stroller is a clunky 10 year old stroller. It has great storage and great sunshade but it's heavy and hard to fold. I figure that if someone steals my stroller, then they must be really desperate and need it more than I do.

We take our camera with us on rides - but even that is a pretty cheap one. I agree with taking your valuables with you.

I've heard of people locking two wheels or taking a wheel off. If you were to lock the two front wheels, then a CM could still move it if needed, but someone might be deterred from stealing it. I'm not concerned about my stroller. But if I had a nice one, then I'd consider locking the wheels.

*We did have something stolen off our stroller once, thanks to a squirrel. A squirrel actually managed to open the zipper of my backpack, breaking it in the process. It then got some food out and ate and took some. That was when it was parked at Epcot and wasn't right by trees. The CM told me it was a common problem. So, do be aware that there's a chance of food being stolen by squirrels and that they are capable of breaking your bags.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. I have never had any problems with stuff being stolen. People worry way too much. Just don't leave like your camera or anything like that. If you can afford to go to Disney your not going to steal someone's diapers and wipes. I have even left souvenirs and nothing has gone missing.

Agree with pp's just don't leave anything of value behind and you will be fine. Now word of caution as we thought our stroller had been "taken." There are stroller attendants in the park that help keep parking areas organized. While this is appreciated they often move strollers and we had a few occasions where they were no where close to where we left it. One time we left the stroller by Columbia Harbor House and it had been moved to next to a store around the corner. In a sea of same looking strollers beware you get the right one ; )

Thieves go to WDW to get stuff they can sell. They buy an AP and go to every park every day if they want. They can steal more than the cost of the AP.

Take the backpack on the ride with you. Babies R Us sold a stroller lock. You could probably use a bike lock, too. Don't leave anything in the stroller you would hate to lose.

We had a backpack and camera bag. DH and would each take one on the rides. We did leave food, drinks, etc in the stroller. We bought a stroller off Craigslist pretty much just for Disney, so had it been taken I would not have been too heartbroken.

You have been lucky, but not everyone is as fortunate. Next time you go to the parks, look at all the stuff people leave unattended. It would be easy to make a pile of money if you took stuff!

Just don't lock the stroller to anything. Just lock the wheels together in either the front or back so the CMs can still move it around.

Does anyone put their phone numbers on the stroller, kind of like "if found please contact..." Obviously not for thieves but if it was move by cm and couldn't find it etc.
also does anyone know if backpacks with wheels is allowed into the park?

You cannot bring into the parks anything you pull behind you. So pulling a wheeled backpack would be a no-no.

Also I wouldn't be comfortable putting my cell phone number out in public. The CMs don't usually move them to far away. If I couldn't find it right away, I'd just keep looking.

Not a stroller, but we left a backpack hooked to the seat of an ECV. It had nothing valuable in it - rain ponchos, first aid supplies, etc. Then we had a small sling bag that we would pick up and carry on attractions. As far as I know it was never bothered. It rode on the back of that ECV for 9 days.
