Kennels closing next year!

In case folks haven't noticed, outsourcing seems to be the trend of the future for Disney. First, it was bell services, then housekeeping. Not long ago, it was strollers. Now, the kennels will be outsourced. It appears that Disney doesn't want to mess with anything they don't have to. Sadly, I think service will suffer due to the outsourcing.

We are building a "new kennel" now. Its called fencing in our property. 1 acre with a 6 foot fence should keep the Golden satisfied. My parents always come by once or twice a day to feed and water, and I always insist that they let her in the house and play with her. The whole "kennel" thing always seemed so cold and cruel. I once got flamed here because my old dog (a half wolf & half chow) was an outside dog. I still say a fenced in yard with a heated dog house and fresh food & water beats a kennel anyday.
I understand not everyone can do that though. Especially those coming from across seas.
We once saw the WDW kennels. Our golden would have barely enough room to turn around, let alone run.
I don't see how the new one could be anything but an improvement.

Some of the employees are very nice, but in particular the manager Jen is not. The problem is she is not an animal person either. The problem with the new facility is you won't be allowed back to walk or feed your dog. They will bring the dog to you. My dogs love the disney kennels because they are crate trained dogs and used to that type of crate. The new facility will be like most other kennels with a cement slab and indoor/outdoor runs. That becomes a problem for me as well as my dogs love to eat everything in sight when outside so without me being there they will.
The other problem I continued to experience while there was they never ask to see any papers or id. I literally could have taken any dog in the place and they would never have known that it wasn't mine. This obviously bothered someone else because while I was there I saw a note on their poster board that a particular guest had requested that ID be seen before taking their dogs out.

I really hate to hear this. The last time we used the kennel was 22 years ago and I loved them. You received a paper with all your info on it when you checked them in and then you weren't allowed to go back there until you showed them the papers. I always felt like my dogs would be safe there. Fortunatly since then my mother has watched my dogs for me but I know in a few years she probably won't be able so I hate to hear of such shabby care. I volunteer at the local shelter so I can tell you if a kennel won't let you come back and see where your dog is staying then there is something they don't want you to see. I also agree with another poster who talked about Disney outsourcing certain services and it is showing. I am afraid Disney will not be the same in years to come! Also if you can't give us pet owners a kennel where the dogs are respected and treated properly then give us a hotel where you can bring your pets to!

I use the kennel at the TTC at least every other weekend if not more. Each time, even though they now know me and my dog, I have to produce either the paperwork or my id to pick up my dog. I've had nothing but good experiences with the kennel at the TTC. That's the only one I've used, so far, but it has been quite good.

I'm still hung up on the bedtime stories. I'll cop to paying extra for my dog to get a pillow and Frosty Paws, but if she wants a bedtime story, she's going to need to learn how to read.

My dog would associate newspapers with training, and magazines with a pop on the butt.. She's probably opt out for that one.;)

Oh lordy...I guess I should mention I did NOT pay for bedtime stories at the vet. All I know is my husky came home thrilled and relaxed which let me know she got enough exercise (not to mention we saw her on webcam through the kennel). Who knows if its the whole chain or if there are a few bad apples out there... All I can say is I had a good experience with Best Friends.

Out of curiosity, how much did it cost? It sounds better than what I saw.

When I worked for best friends they said that the bed time stories was meant to give your pet more time with people. Yes they do have books that you have to read cover to cover to your pet. We would just stand out side the cage and read the book. Not many get it though. Depends on time crunches. Extras are not worth it cause time usualy never allows for your pets to get it.

I paid 80 dollars for the weekend but that was with a full blown grooming treatment. You do NOT want to deal with a husky when its blowing out fur lol :lmao: . They really were nice and there were about 5 people gushing over her so she was in attention heaven.
