Kennels at DLR

We are in the process of planning our next trip to DLR, and have decided to take a different approach this time by driving down the coast, and including our dog in our vacation.

Has anyone used the kennels at DLR? Our plan would be to board her there each day, and then walk back every few hours to take her for a walk. If you have any experience leaving your dog, would you mind sharing? Would you take your dog back?

I'd also be open to doggie daycare recommendations in the area...I'm not opposed to driving a few miles to drop her somewhere if the DLR kennel turns out to not be a good idea.

Thanks in advance. :)

The kennels at DLR aren't actual kennels. They are plastic crates, so if your dog is ok being crated she will be OK at the DLR kennels. Personally we would rather board our dogs closer to home or have a friend stay at our home with them (which is what usually happens) then take them with us. Your pup will be crated until YOU come to walk them, you are responsible for cleaning up after them, feeding them, walking them, etc etc, the kennel employees are not allowed to handle the dogs. I believe there are doggy day cares or boarding kennels near DLR but I am not sure, you would have to do some searching for that. :)

Camp Bow Wow Anaheim is near the 57 & 91 Fwy interchange. They do daycare or overnight care for your pooch. You can check it out at www.campbowwow.com and find the Anaheim facility. Very reasonable if you have to bring your dog with you. :)

Another option is the PetSmart PetsHotel. There is on Harbor (I'm pretty sure, its been awhile since I've seen it). They offer day services and night services.
I work at a PetsHotel in Tucson, and have considered bring my dog with on vacas and leaving her there.

A friend of mine tried to use the kennels but somehow mislaid the dog's medical records ( shots etc ) and they wouldn't let it stay - while that makes sense, just make sure you have everything you need before you go.

well, the kennels right now are getting an upgrade. Could be different... i guess we will find out! :)

We have used the kennels many times and have never had a problem. They have either the indoor crates or outdoor kennels. The indoor crates are similar to the ones your pet would use at a Vet. They have solid sides and bottom but a kennel wire door. We always have them up front and they can see out the windows, our pets usually prefer this.
The kennel workers cannot take care of the pets, such as walk them or take them out of the crate but they will feed them and give them water. Since they are strangers to the pets, I think that it is the best idea to not have them responsible for walking them.
In the times that we have left our pets, they have had disposable bowls that we could use as well as food if you want them to feed them. We have always taken something for them to lay on and their own food. This makes them more comfy.
When you take them for a walk you use their facility that is a fenced in area, with gravel and a fire hydrant in the middle. We pick up after our dogs, I think they request you do , but I cant remember.
You board the tram just like everyone else and walk with them DTD to the kennels.
The CM's that have helpd us in the kennels have always been cheerful and friendly. They require you have proof of immunizations to kennel, just like anyother facility. I think the charge was $25 per pet/per day the last time we used them in September.
I would reccomend getting bordatella and some kind of flea/tick treatment at your vet where ever you choose to kennel them.:santa:

Excellent....thanks everyone, this is exactly what I needed to know.

I think we will utilize the DLR kennel for part of our stay, and then splurge on a few days at doggie daycare for the others.

I appreciate all of the comments and input!

Really?? This could be very good!! :)
Our dogs are spoiled at our kennel, they are allowed to stay in 1 run together (huge run, it's 8 x 4 I think), they get blankets, they get toys, they get play time in the open yard with other dogs that are there, the employees know our dogs well, one of our dogs was adopted from that kennel. :)
