So, we're going away this weekend, up north about 2 hours to spend the 4th with DH's dad & the family. We can't bring our 8YO dog, because they have 2 very jealous dogs themselves, and I don't want them to hurt my Cupcake.

She's quite a "homebody", and was miserable at the kennel when we took her there several years ago for a week when we went to Disney. My brother and sister (who are staying in the area) have offered to stop by, feed and take out Cupcake during the weekend.

We'll be gone from mid-morning Saturday until early morning Monday (quite early; DD has dance camp starting that morning). Do you think she'll be okay at home those days, with Sis and Bro coming to visit her, or do you think I should kennel her for that time? Eww, another consideration I *just* now thought of; the only kennel in the area needs a certification of kennel cough vaccination, and I don't know if the vet could get her in in time for it. Ugh.

So I guess what I'm looking for is... she won't be too terribly lonely without us those two days... will she? I love my dog so very much and I don't want her to be sad. :guilty: She will have the cats there (one of them is her "sister"), and I thought maybe I could leave a radio on for "white noise" for her. :confused3

Thanks in advance for any advice! :grouphug:

I would leave her at home. Visits from your family should be fine. Sometimes dogs need vacations from their families too! ;)

We are in a similar situation ourselves for our upcoming Disney trip in September. For just those short few days though I would leave her at home. Just make sure that it is going to be cool enough.

That is a *very* good point. It's supposed to be pretty hot & sunny this weekend, so I'll have to make sure her favorite fan is on. She's a husky, and definitely appreciates the cooler air! Thanks :D

As long as she doesn't have seperation anxiety issues, she should be fine I think.

My dog is okay on her own for a whole day, but not over night. Two days alone with only a few visits from someone would NOT be a good thing for either her or the condition of my house. I used to use a kennel, but now that she's older and her health isn't as good, I have a friend house sit for me so she doesn't have the stress of a kennel visit. She's much happier this way.

We have a husky too!! He is actually very low maintenance compared to our other dogs. We could probably leave the husky for a week with food and water and he would be fine! The other ones would be a mess though!

Leave her home and leave a TV on for her. It will not hurt the TV,will give your dog the feeling that someone is there talking, plus it looks like someone is home at night so its a good security precaution.

The carpets might not look too good either!

You say she is a homebody. She will be happier at home. You also have the problem of not having the kennel cough vac. in time for it to be effective. Most places want it 7-10 days prior to boarding. You are also looking at boarding over a holiday weekend. If you didn't make prior arrangements, many places will already be booked.

It sounds like your brother and sister will be able to check in on her. Her best option, and maybe the only option is home. I know you will worry, but she will be fine and enjoy her home environment. Have a fun trip.

I say leave her at home. I'm sure she will be fine with someone checking on her occasionally. We board our dogs if we are gone for more than 1 night. 1 night they are OK with but anything longer our "big" dog (he's about 45 lbs) starts to howl and then the little dog (mini doxie) joins in.....LOL That's what we get for having 2 hound dogs. LOL :)
