Planning on one day trip here. Wondering who has gone and any tips? I heard the bus tour takes 2-3 hrs, but, how much time is actually riding on the bus?

We've done the day trip from Disney to kennedy twice now! So worth it. We did the bus tour. It took us out to the launch pads and we got to tour the Vehicle Assembly Building. You do get out of the bus at several places. We also got out to see manatees and for picture opportunities. The second time we went we didn't do the bus tour. We had plenty to do with just doing the Space Shuttle Atlantis building and the Saturn V building. Both are NOT to be missed! We spent probably 5-6hours without doing the bus tour. Both trips were fabulous and well worth it.

I can't remember how long we were on the bus - maybe 10 or 15 minutes each way? We arrived at opening and left when they closed. Take your time. There is so much to look at and read.

So, the 2-3 hours I've heard it takes for the bus tour, includes seeing most of the stuff wherever the bus is taking you?

The Kennedy Space Center (KSC) bus tour only has two stops. At each stop, you are free to spend as much or as little time as you want. When you are ready to continue, you can get on any bus to take you to the next stop. Here is an overview map. The roads are hard to see, but they run close to the white lines, which are railroad tracks.

  • Leg 1 - KSC Visitor Complex to Launch Complex 39 (LC-39) Observation Gantry: Distance 7.5 miles, roughly 20-25 minutes.
  • Leg 2 - LC-39 to Saturn V Center: 4.1 miles, 15-20 minutes.
  • Leg 3 - Saturn V Center to KSC Visitor Complex: 7.0 miles, 20-25 minutes.
Note: The times listed above are estimates based on data provided by Bing Maps and personal experience. The KSC buses do travel slower when you pass by areas like the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB), launch complexes, and other points of interest.

FWIW- Last Thanksgiving break, I went with DH, DD 11, DS 9 and my father. We spent the whole day at KSC and my children talked about it for weeks after. It is an amazing experience. They have made it so engaging for tweens and teens, as well as adults. It is more hands on and interactive than when I went as a kid.

So, if we checked everything out and took the 2-3 hour tour, would that be an 8hr day?? Any sites have discounted tickets?

Thanks to everyone that posted here - lots of great info! We will be in Orlando for 9 days in mid-November and are planning a day at KSC.

We were last there about 15 years ago and it sounds like so much has changed .. should be fun!

Enjoy! I live 5 miles from KSC & can hopefully answer any additional questions you may have.

I am going next week for the first time. I am trying to decide about riding the space shuttle launch experience. Does this spin you like Mission Space Epcot? Thanks.

I get motion sick easily & I can ride the launch experience. I have to close my eyes a couple of times but am fine afterwards. HTH!

If you are part of a group and others will be riding, they have an option where you can do the pre-show and then watch the rest of your group via a live camera feed. That's also a good way to gather information before deciding if you want to try it out.

But, it does not spin like Mission Space. I'm wildly suspicious of any simulator, as they tend to make me nauseated. After watching this one via the live feed, I think I will actually ride it next time I visit Kennedy Space Center.

It is good but not " That Good " ........ not really a " Wow " factor .

Try it anyway.

Huh??
The most incredible accomplishment ever achieved by man is captured in the Saturn V visitor center.
I'm guessing you're a bit too young to understand the Apollo era? A true miracle.

ETA: it's tough to tell from your post if you are talking about KSC in general, or just the Shuttle experience.
I do apologize if I misread your post, but I just can't tell.

I think you were not even born when the event took place.

I am over 65 .

The Kennedy Space Center is indeed a place of wonder.

The O.P asked of the new Space Shuttle Launch simulator.

It is good but all over in a few min. after waiting a long time in a Q
