I am planning to purchase the maximum access admission and the NASA Up-Close tour and to go to on a Wednesday. We will be leaving from Orlando. What time should we leave Orlando, if I'm going on the 10:40 tour?
Do I really need to make reservations for the tour?
What if I make the reservation and it's raining, can I cancel and get a refund or reschedule?
Any other hints or suggestions would be welcomed.

I'd make reservations. To my knowledge all tours are rain or shine. You say you are leaving from Orlando... Where? Downtown? Crime Hills? Near the airport? Metrowest? Need more specifics.

I will be coming from The Fountains on S. International Dr.

:cool1: We did this tour last summer and it was GREAT!!! You want to make your reservation. I do not think you get a refund if it rains. They do the tours rain or shine.

I can not remember how long the drive was, but I think it was around an hour. We did our tour on a Sunday so we did not have major traffic issues.

Due to the potential for traffic and congestion on I-Drive and the Beachline, I'd plan on 75-80 minutes. It's right around 60 miles, the Beachline is a 70mph speed limit most of the way, but there will be parts of it, plus the I-Drive mess to contend with before you get to that point.

Frankly, if I had a reservation for something at 10:15, I'd probably leave by 8:45 just to be on the safe side. If I were just going for the day without set plans I'd leave around 9:00.

It took us a little over an hour from the AS Mo. We got there before the tix office opened.

Even w/online res. for tours, you have to bring your confirmation & wait in line (they're slow). Then you've got to go thru a Security Checkpoint that took us longer than @ the airport. DH had a guard who painstakenly went thru his camera bag (filter by filter) & let the guard examine his camera & cell phone. (I had pretty much the same set-up in my bag, didn't draw any interest from a guard on the other side of the room?) Can't accuse their security of being lax.

We barely had time to tour the rocket garden & memorial & it was time to hop on our up close tour.

Recommend highly. I was the most resistant to going (didn't want to give up my time @ WDW) and I wound up enjoying it the most & look forward to returning someday. Truly awe-inspiring and educational in an entertaining way. Surprised as to the wildlife we got to see.

As for maximum access pass, we ran out of time & didn't get to see the museum down the road - maybe next time...hope you enjoy your trip.
