I haven't been in ages so need to answer a quick question. Will we be able to see the shuttle from the normal area without having to buy a ticket for the tour. I remember being there and seeing the shuttle in the maintenence building. But it should be on the launch site I would think by the time we go there in mid January. I want my son to at least see it, hes only 4 but it would be important for us. Not sure how he would do on a tour. Anyone know?

You won't be able to see it from the Visitors Complex. If you take the bus that goes out to the viewing area you can see it in the distance. It isn't a tour exactly, you are free to spend as much or little time as you want at the different stops.

Is the bus the tour or just a general bus that goes out there?

When are you going to KSC? They rolled Discovery back in this past Tuesday (to scan for more problems) and Atlatis isn't out yet either.

We havent put a date in the making but would be anytime between Jan 9-14th.

We are planning to visit KSC on march 6. I believe this would coincide with the shuttle landing(Feb 24 launch, 11 day mission). I know delays are possible. Maybe I should
rethink our plans or at least be flexible? Is it possible to visit during an ongoing mission or are restrictions just for launch and landing days?

I'm also not sure what to visit. I am a space nut but the rest of family are pretty ho-hum(although I'm pretty sure the boys,10&12 would be impressed by the sight of a Saturn rocket and the launch simulator). Is the basic admission worth it as I think the full tour may be a bit too long for them?

We're heading down on the 25th -- had hoped to be there for Atlantis launch on the 29th but it was delayed to July. Ah well. We're still planning on going to KSC with our 5 year old and - hopefully - get some pictures of Atlantis on the launch pad from the LC39 gantry.

My Dad just got a congressional invitation to watch the launch on July 8th. Has anyone ever done that before? I guess you meet in Merritt Island for a bus to the viewing area. I'm curious how that all goes. Very exciting!

We've actually extended our dates by a couple of days to be out there for the July launch and we're taking the tour a few days before as well. Anyone know if they change the tour when it gets close to a launch date? I know they don't do it on launch dates, but I couldn't find much on the days leading up to a launch.
