Kennedy Space Center (Budget related)

My son has a birthday in April and he wants to have a party at a local science museum (We're actually sharing the party with a friend to help defray costs). I have been debating buying a museum membership for our family (good for a year) - and need to make a decision before we book the party (since it would be discounted if we are members).

We've been members before, and while the kids like going there, we don't really go all the time. However, they particpate in the reciprical program with other science centers. I've looked and Kennedy Space Center is one of the particpating centers, so it looks like we could get free admission.

Would younger kids enjoy the space center? I was there when I was a child, and remember it was a little boring at times (although I was there during a launch week, so that was exciting, but I remember not being thrilled with the exhibits).

Of course, this was 20+ years ago - so I am sure it has changed.

It isn't really in our budget to buy this membership now, but if it defrays party AND vacation costs it could be worth it (there is also a science museum on the Gulf Coast that particpates that I know my children would enjoy).

Oh - and does anyone know how long he drive would be from the Tampa Bay area to KSC?

Depends how into space they are. We went last April, (no kids). I would have been bored as a kid, I think. DH had been so enthralled by the trip as a kid that he instantly turned into an 8 year old again (except this trip he knew more about the exhibits than the tour guides.)

We were just there in Jan. I think young kids would be bored to tears there. My older kids would probably appreciate it, but my dd (4) would have had a really hard time there. We were without the kids for this trip, which was a good time for us to go. I don't think i'll be bringing the kids there any time soon.

I am total into space and I was bored. Actually was bored to tears. I went my son boys scouts troop all the boys were boy.

Boy the food was high. I paid 12 bucks for a salad.

SO true. I had forgotten about that but the food was crazy expensive.
