Hi all :goodvibes

My Dh want's to visit KSC this time around, we've been going to Orlando since 1999 every year (sometimes twice per year) and i have got away with not doing this for a for some time ;) I have been told that it gets very hot, it's boring and is more a "guy thing" is this true? Any info would be appreciated as i don't want to buy tickets if it's not worth it. Thanks :)

my dh loved it and wants to go back. My kids enjoyed it (2 boys aged 4 and 6) but a short day was enough .... me, well I was happy they were happy.

Its no Disney for sure, no hi-tech stuff going on here, its really just a museum, some rockets, a space shuttle, a few exhibits and a tour you can do.

This year when the dh takes the boys, I'll be down the mall :thumbsup2

we're going to Kennedy this time. going in may, will be interested in hearing what you think of it if you go. there was a thread a while ago but cant find it at the moment.
does sound like a guy place, but im going.

Was of the same opinion as you.... put it off for 4 trips but finally had to give in last trip .....

I can honestly say it was the most interesting day of the holiday, never realised I knew so little .... go it's definately worth the trip, a reasonably cheap day out by comparison to the theme parks and you'll never look at space travel or its history in the same way again.

Hmmmm... my Dd is 17, we have no boys, although us girlies are quite interested in the whole "space thing" Did you think it was very hot? Not sure what my friends meant by that, maybe there wasn't much shade? Are the exhibits outside?:confused3

Been 4 or 5 times now, had Annual passes one year(ony a few $'s more than a day ticket) DW enjoyed it more than me which suprised me.
Its something you won't know until you have been, give it a go.

We are hoping to see another shuttle launch this August, scheduled for 6th August, day we land so even with set back or 2 it could fall in the 25 days we are there, just hope not while we are on the cruise.

Thanks, i will give it a go because Dh really wants to do this and maybe i'll get him to come and get a facial with me and dd :lmao:

OH, DD11 and DS9 fancy this so I'm planning on buying tickets for the 5 of us.
Even if DD7 and I don't like it as much as the others it is only 1 day out of all the others :)

I'm not particularly interested in space-travel things but wow, it is impressive! I found it a really interesting, and quite humbling, day. Just to see the size of some of the things there, large and small, that the astronauts travelled in and lived in gives you a real insight into it.

I really enjoyed the backstage coach tour and the guides were great. The majority of them used to work at KSC and came back as guides when they retired.

It is well worth going to and you might be quite surprised at how enjoyable and interesting you find it.

Quite a bit of it is outside - things like the Rocket Garden, space shuttle, wall of rememberance etc - so that may have been what they meant when they said it was hot. It was really cloudy last time we went so we were ok.

I went for the first time in November and I loved it. The talk from a former astronaut was facinating and it was just a bit of a change from the theme parks

We had an interesting day out. We went on a coach trip and didn't have enough time to see everything we wanted to.

We found it very hot in August - very little shade and lots of concrete to reflect the heat.

This was the only place that we were eaten alive. Wear lots of insect repellant.

When planning our Orlando holiday, we decided to visit really for the benefit of our children (then aged 8 & 6), but it turned out to be one of the most enjoyable and interesting days out.

We loved the bus tour around the site and it was wonderful to see the launch pads. The driver also pointed out alligators and a Golden Eagle's nest as we were returning to the visitors center. Saturn 5 was just the most incredible thing I have ever seen. We just stood looking at it for ages with our mouths open! We saw the IMAX film about the International Space Station and that was brilliant.

Yes, it is v hot and there are little places for shade, but take it slow and you'll have a great day out.

We hope to return to Orlando in 2010 and have no doubt that we'd go back to KSC as there are still bits we didn't see.

The new shuttle experience is worth a go - very clever and humorous intro and a fun thing to do. Your ticket also allows you entry into the Astronaut hall of fame. if you are driving you will pass this on your way to kennedy. More historical stuff here but also more interactive stuff. A genuine 4g spinner (give me MS any day!) and when working simulated walking on the moon. Another interesting place to visit.

I agree - my kids LOVED listening to a real-life astronaut!

We - me, DH, DD10 DS5 - all loved our day there and are going again in August!

I loved it went because my husband and nephews wanted to go Im glad I done it great to learn tons on new things:)

Me and bf both loved it and wished we'd had longer than just one day there, definitely on the list for next time :thumbsup2 IMO the extra tour is well worth it (you pay a little more than the standard admission but you get closer to some of the sites and get more info too)

I think KSC boils down to this. Do your family love space exploration, history and astronomy?

If yes then its a total must see. If you are a big brother fan (ooh ducks for cover), then KSc will be the most boring thing ever. It really is a marmite kind of place. I loved it. My wife hated it. She states she'd rather go on its a small world for a whole afternoon than return.
On a serious note, its a very talky and read-y type of place. not a thrill seekers paradise. Its very different from the orlando experience. More like a museum.
So make from that what you wish!
