Has anyone used a Kelty Child Carrier backpack? I was looking at them and thought they seem like a great idea.

Thanks!!

We were given one that is over ten years old. It had survived their 3 kids and our DD. DH uses it ALL the time and loves it. I had to give it up when she hit 25 pounds. She is a very large 3 year old now and they still can use it, though her legs seem a little long to me.

I would suggest bringing the stroller too. I also suggest a diaprer bag that can hang off the stroller handle. There is a certain brand at Target that is designed perfect for DIsney trips...not sure of the brand but the label is a red square with a white star on it.

Oh, cool. I'm glad you like it, and that it's over 10 years old and you're still using it says a lot. It just seems so wasteful to buy something that expensive that will only last through one child. My DD is 21 months, and just about 24lbs, so I think she'll get a decent amount of use out of it.

Oh, we're definitely bringing the stroller! Its like AMEX, don't leave home without it! Thanks for the tip on the diaper bag, but I'm hoping the carrier we are buying will be able to stash diapers and wipes. I'm going to check it out regardless, maybe it'll work for us. DD's older, so we're finally carrying less for her. ::phew!:: No more bottles! YAY!!

Thank you!

We had one of the Kelty carriers and it came with a small backpack that you could zip on and off the back of the carrier itself. It would have been the perfect size for some diapers and wipes!

A couple things - those carriers are not anything you would be able to bring on rides with you if you intend to use it at WDW, so you'll likely need to leave it where the strollers park or something.

We liked ours, but our DS was the only one who used it. DD always preferred to walk. :confused3

BTW, the one we had was the Backcountry and it came with the rain/sun cover. It was really well made, and I just sold it to another family last summer. :)

We are now on kid #3 with ours. If you are not accustomed to a back pack and 20-30 LBS, practice before you go for a few months. A good pair of walking shoes is essentail.

If you buy from REI, join the membership it will pay for itself. 10% rebate.

As for the backpack, the summit was the top end, with mulitple adjustments for me and the kid, included the sun shade canapoy and detachable back pack.

The pack and kids have made # of trips, I even were it instead of the stroller for hands free shopping at the mall or grocey store. The pack has been up on Mt Rainer, groomed paths, through the woods shed hunting (sun shade works well for keeping branches out of the kids face) to varouis festivals.

When our 5-yo was a baby we found a backpack/stroller combo that worked great for many reasons. Our baby hated a normal stroller but didn't mind one that you sat in like a backpack, and when the crowds got crazy (like leaving the park) it was so much easier to have him on DH's back than trying to push him through the park. I can see if I have a picture if you are interested.

and found that the kelty jogging stroller we had worked much better. We even got both kids riding it, with the little one riding on the front tire (sort of)
