Keith Olbermann

You are born with a big nose or a nose that fits;)

You are born gay or straight.

Who the hell would choose to be gay? To have people belittle you your entire life? To treat you like dirt? Who would choose this?

You're asking the wrong person ..

The way a person looks has no bearing on Prop 8. To many Christians, homosexuality is a sin. Having a big nose is not. Many feel that homosexuality is perverse.

But, um, you can't help if you have a large nose. That is how you were born:rolleyes1 We should accept what God gives us and celebrate it!

Um, only ceratin things though:rolleyes:
Some people belive that homosexuality is the same as physical traits - both are things you are born with. Sure homosexuals can choose to deny their sexuality and live a heterosexual life, but then large nosed people can get plastic surgery to make it seem they don't have large noses. But in both cases it hardly matters. Just because you hide your large nose with plastic surgery doesn't change the person you were born as.

But you both are missing the point. You are born the way you are. Some people are disgusted by the sexuality of homosexuals, I am disgusted by large noses. You have the right to persecute people for the things you are disgusted by, and I have the right to persecute people for the things I am disgusted by.

Not too long ago...in THIS CENTURY...certain homosexual acts were considered criminal and could be prosecuted in a criminal court. The fact that we're even talking about gay marriage shows we've made tremendous progress overcoming this last acceptable prejudice. But we need to take the final step and grant equal rights to everyone. I agree with everything Olberman said.

Frankly I don't understand why it is the concern of the government or society what goes on between two consenting adults in the privacy of their home. Seems to me the same folks who want less government interference in our public lives sem to be way too interested in what goes on in everyone's bedroom.

:confused3 The Bible strongly opposes divorce. God hates divorce (Malachi 2:16) and only allows it for abondonment (having an affair) or abuse. Why don't we outlaw divorce then? Once you are married and take your vows, you are married for life -- no excuses except the two mentioned above. If that sounds ridiculous to you, then Prop 8 should sound just as ridiculous.

How many Bible thumping Christians have been divorced though -- more than once? God considers remarried couples (with the noted above exceptions) to be living in sin, just like those same people believe that gay couples are living in sin.

http://executableoutlines.com/top/divorce.htm

If it's something that affects people directly (divorce) then they seem to be able to turn the other cheek to what the Bible says, yet there is no exception to a sin (homosexuality) that doesn't affect certain people directly. I don't get it.

here's something shocking--I don't give a rat's patootie about who you marry or sleep with as along as A) you're all above legal age B) everyone consents and C)the government is fnot orced to subsidize your lifestyle. So go ahead, marry 3 women, or 3 men, or whatever combination you want.

I wholeheartedly agree this is the civil rights of my generation. I listened to my neice explain to someone that her friend Maddie had two mommies. She's 4. do you really think in 14 years it would ever cross her mind to tell Maddie's moms they couldn't marry? no, the same way it would never cross my mind to tell an interracial couple they couldn't marry.

People fighting for gay rights have worked hard to ease the fear that legalizing gay unions would lead to a free for all. So while I can appreciate your perspective, I think it complicates the struggle and makes it that much more challenging.

I agree - he is an incredibly nasty, rude and ugly partisan on most issues. He calmed down somewhat here, but that didn't really matter because he is in essence just preaching to choir - e.g. the majority of those who watch MSNBC (a very partisan channel) were already against the anti-same sex votes that won in CA, FL and AZ, so his "message" isn't reaching the presumably targeted audience.

Did you see the job Ben Affleck did on Olbermann in Saturday Night Live? It was spot on and really showed the non-Olbermann audience what a nutcase he really is.

I just don't get why you want to force your religious beliefs of another section of society? :confused3

And I don't get it why you don't understand that a proposition was voted on and passed. Would you be cryning like this if it had been voted down? Would you have cared if the people who brought up the original proposition and lost were upset about it? Why do you expect anybody who voted for it to care just because you didn't get your way? It happens all the time, half of the people in America were upset on November 5th, that's just the way it goes.

No no no! One of those is "Tyranny of the majority"!

I just can't figure out which one is which...

That was explained the other day, it's tyranny of the Majority when your in the minority, it is the consensus will of the people when your in the Majority. Got it now? :)

I know! Talk about spoiled brats! How dare they be allowed to marry another human that they love and honor:rolleyes1 How dare they be allowed to have a law that treats them like the rest of the people who fall in love and want to marry:headache:

The should just deal with it.

Cry babies!

:rolleyes1

Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh........

First off, make no mistake that Keith Olbermann is an entertainer, not a journalist. I hold his opinion in no higher regard than that of Axl Rose or Jessica Simpson.

Second, after reading the first 2 pages of the thread, I am literally starting to cringe when I see the word “right” or “rights” used as noun. Just because you think something is right (the adjective) doesn’t mean you have that right (the noun).

I recently had a discussion with a co-worker who felt that the seat-belt law violated his “civil rights”. My response was who, where and when made “civil rights” a blank check to do what ever you want.

The same clip that Keith played on his show with a personal note from Ben saying he only knew how to play him well because he's watched Keith's show for years? Yeah. :happytv:

Geez, who do gays think they are ................... fellow human beings with civil rights protected by the Constitution? How dare they think they should be first-class citizens just like everyone else. The nerve.

And it was explained wrong. There is no majority rules when it comes to equal protection under the law. Those protections are inherent in every human being according to our Founding Fathers and are not subject to a vote or a whim. Or in this case, a wild hair among the religious right.

You don't get to vote on who should have voting rights. You don't get to vote on who should be sent to the back of the bus.

Prop 8 is the last gasp of a group who have finally found the last group they can successfully discriminate against in this country. That will end with the next generation.

The same clip that Keith played on his show with a personal note from Ben saying he only knew how to play him well because he's watched Keith's show for years? Yeah.

I took special notice at this last bit of straw grasping. Yeah, Olbermann really hated it. :lmao:

The religious right is about to pay for this one big time. The one thing Americans understand is fundamental fairness.

Plus, the next generation doesn't care about this crap. That'll be the true demise of the religious right. The next generation will confine them to the garbage dump.

I agree, things WILL change. The younger voters voted overwhelming against these unfair amendments so it's only a matter of time before gay marriage will be a complete non-issue. I just wish it were today.

For me, the thing that shocks me the most, and God knows I don't understand why I am surprised, but the amount of money the Catholic and Mormon churches poured into these campaigns!

One church has major PR issues on the marriage thing, the other has members of leadership who...well lets just say they have a PR problem in the gay area. :confused3

The mormon church gave n o monmey to this cause; members of the church did individually, but the church did not.

Oh I think you underestimate if/when this is resolved, there will be a next group standing up and saying they are being discriminated against.

You're right. I'm sure the religious right will find a new group to work against. They need a common enemy just to stay relevant.
