I got this tip from my Dentist:

Put a hook (screw-in type) into a stud (if you can find one, otherwise use wall anchor) - and use DENTAL FLOSS tied to the hook and wrapped around the trunk - and that sucker will NOT fall down.

It works for middle-of-the-room trees, too - hook in ceiling, though.

I had a 50 LB Lab, and she loved running and bumping into the tree, but it never fell after I saw my dentist.

I mean, have you ever tried to rip dental floss without a cutter? It ain't happenin'!

ITA--my dad always used 2 lengths of floss or fishing line, tied off to the bannister. We never lost the tree.

I learned FINALLY after two toppled trees :( to do this. However we use craft wire.

We got a large base for our fake tree (not the one that came with the tree) and after putting the pole in, put quickset cement in the base. That sucker never goes over, although the pole stays in the base all year long. We just take the branches out in Jan. and put them back in the following November.

Does anyone have a cat who likes to CLIMB the tree? We've got one that loves to get in there pretty high and just sit. I'm dreadind putting the tree up this year.

We've done this several year.

The first year we lived in this house, we had absolutely no furniture in our family room. So, when DH went shopping for a real tree, he got one to fill up the room. It was huge!! Filled the entire area in front of the bay window. One night, I wake up and DH isn't next to me. I get up to find him trying to upright the tree which feel and left broken ornaments all over the room. A bit of dental floss did the trick to keep it upright.

It sure wasn't as much fun decorating it the second time around.:(

Now, if only the dentist could give me a tip on how to get rid of bad doggie gas...

I'm not a dentist, but you should use some of this:

I use a couple of bricks to weigh down the stand, then cover the ugliness of it with the tree skirt.

Gotta do this if you have active cats! ;)
