My name is Kassi and I'm a professed wasp-hater. They are the only thing I'm afraid of and do not want any near our house or me or my daughter! I sprayed for them around our front door, where they normally make their nests. Now they are gone from that area. This week they started going into our big dek umbrella....we have a big one to shade most of the deck because we have no mature trees to shade that area. We had no issue with them last year on the deck except for occasionally around the roof. This past week, two decided to make nice with the umbrella and start a small nest in a matter of 24 hrs. AFTER I had sprayed the umbrella and my brother sat vigil and tried to kill them when they flew out. I'm home today and killed the two that were in there when I opened the umbrella this morning and really sprayed the inside. I will not deal with this all summer, especially with a 1 1/2 year old who loves to play out there.

:angel:Any help in ridding our deck area of these pests would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!:grouphug:

I have heard that if you hang puffed out paper bags in the area you don't want them they will think it is another nest and will stay away because they are supposedly quite territorial. I have seen it work, and seen them still hang around. It might be worth a try?

My husband usually sprays them with a water bottle filled with water and soap (he uses dishwashing liquid). It usually kills them right away. You can probably hook up one of those lawn feeder deals to your hose with soap in it and spray down the nests. Not sure how to keep them from coming around in the first place?

I was told that it's best to wait until after dark to spray the nest that way the wasps are in the nest and not out terrorizing people.

Wasps are afraid of hornets because hornets kill wasps so buying a fake hornets nest to hang up or doing what a PP suggested with the paper bags would work. They will leave the area.

We have professionals come out a spray for bees, wasps and hornets at our house. What they spray is non-toxic and they guarantee no new nests from May-Oct. It cost us about $200/year but if we see any new nests they will come back and respray that area for free.

We were spending at least that much each year, in Raid, trying to keep our house and yard free of bees, and wasps so our boys could play each summer.
