Keeping track of credits

We're leaving tomorrow  and getting the free dining plan for the first time. How do you all keep track of how many credits you have left? Do they give you a little card to keep track or can you go on a site or do you just need to write it down so you know? Either way is fine, I would just rather know in advance how much bookeeping I'll need to do. Thanks!

Each time you use a credit, your receipt will show you how many of that type you have left. For example if you go to a counter service and use 2 credits, your receipt will show 6 (or whatever)CS credits remaining.

And you can get a printout from your resort's concierge any time. It will give you a list of what you've used and how many you have left from each category.

But I wouldn't worry too much. The majority of people (ourselves included) end up with leftover credits. There are very few people I've heard from who actually ran out. We figured if we did, we'd just pay cash, and the dining would still be mostly free. But we never even came close to running out, or being hungry, for that matter.

They're pretty easy to keep track of - we just made sure we kept our receipts. And we used up all of our credits. We had a couple of snacke credits on the last day (we had been given 4 extra credits earlier in the week by the manager of Sci Fi Dine In) and we just used them for snacks to bring n the plane.

We kept a piece of paper in the hotel where we wrote out the total # of TS, CS, and snacks that we had available for the trip and then crossed them out as we used them.

Check your receipt each time as sometimes the server takes the wrong amount of credits. This happened to us at Boma the server charged us 5 credits instead of 4 - she forgot the 2 year old was meant to be free.

We tried to keep a running balance of how much our cost would have been if we had paid out of pocket for our meals while doing the free dining. Since the receipts they give you don't show what you're meal costs were you need to check the register when you get CS &/or snack & write it on your receipts. When using the TS credits they bring a receipt for you to sign. This has the total cost for your meal which we wrote down on our copy of the receipt. I think we ended up eating more food that what we paid for our room. Of course if we had been paying we wouldn't have eaten as much. Fortunately we had some non-DDP friends with us at most meals which kept some of the food from going to waste.

This is a very good point!

We had a similar experience happen at ESPN. We wanted 3 bills, 1 from my Moms dining plan (2 people on it) 1 from our dining plan (to use the 2 kids credits for their melas) and 1 for cash which would have included drinks and DH & my food. Our waiter said no problem, we could do whatever we wanted to.

Some how we got charged 5, then 1, then when we noticed it, they had to credit the 5, then the one (something like that..it was a big mess). Only because we were going over this did my mother look at her remaining credits on her slip to find 0! She started the meal with 6 and only used 2.

In the end they were great about it and fixed everything, but it gave us quite a scare. ;)
