I have a 60 lb. lab mix who insists on crawling into my flower bed alongside my driveway. We have about 18-20" between our driveway and our fence. Despite all our efforts to deter him, he still finds his way into the same spot. We added pavers figuring he wouldn't step over them and that did not stop him.
We've planted several shrubs and flowers and some have sharp prickers. It doesn't seem to bother him, he just pushes his way in between the plants. He also urinates in or on the shrubs and he's killing some of them. We also have burnt grass from his urine (he tends to pee in the same areas). I love this dog to death but I dread every summer dealing with this. I believe he lays there because it's "cooler." However, he has 4-5' of grass on the other side of the driveway yet he doesn't lay there. Go figure!
I've learned to deal with the fact that he likes to dig holes in my lawn all summer but it's still annoying. He just doesn't seem to understand what he is doing is wrong. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas I could try?
