Keep your stuff safe!!!

Uh, silly question, but why didn't she call the police?

Security guard vs. real police officer seems like a no brainer to me who I would call.

Another possibility - I've been given occupied rooms by Disney twice. I'm always so freaked out that I get out QUICK as soon a I see other people's stuff. I also went to the right room in the wrong building once and my key opened the door! Yikes!!

Honestly, I usually don't remember my actual room number and end up guessing. (I know that's baaaaaad)

Luckily, I've never seen an actual person.

I know that most apartments/dorms only have a few different locks that they rotate. I wonder if each Disney lock is unique or if they cycle through a given number of combinations (explaining why I've opened the wrong door).

To the OP - I'm so sorry about the theft. It is such a violation to have things stolen and it just makes you feel icky. I don't think it had to be a Disney employee though. It could have been a guest.

I presume when you are talking about rotating locks you are referring to "old" key locks, not the new electronic ones. Even with the electronic ones, depending on which system they are using, it is still possible to be issued a key to the wrong room and be given access when someone else is using it. The key card basicly has a room assignment and expiration date on it...once that date passes the key is no good. Worst case scenario is if a "master" key is lost/stolen and not taken out of their system.

The "real" police is the way to go....$900 is a grand larceny (felony) in almost every state....although the burden of proof could be difficult that it was there to begin with and that it wasn't lost/stolen beforehand......but it would have definitely made Disney look a little closer. I am surprised that Disney still didn't do that, unless there was some doubt as to when it was taken (possibly at airport screening, which is known to happen).

Yes it is a felony although it would be almost impossible to prove in court.

My mom went on one of many trips as DVC members. She went with my brothers family and they stayed at AKV in a 2 bedroom this past January.
Day one, they arrived late, 10 or so at night.
Then next morning she pulled some stuff out of the suitcases and off they went to the MK
Not a very smart move but she left 3 envelopes on the bedside table.
1 was extra old passes she had
2 was an envelope of money about $30
3 was an envelope of $900 she planned to use for the week.
She wanted to use the cash as to not overspend.
She wouldnt normally leave out cash, but knowing this is vacation club and no one will be in the room she didnt see a problem.
They came back late, noticed for some reason the room had been cleaned, and went to bed.
Next morning, got up to go, went to take money out from the envelope.........

$900 GONE

So after fighting with the desk, manager and many people finally she was given charging privlages........ They told her to charge as she went for the week, but stay within reason and not to go overboard.
It went to Disney Claims and they found that Disney was not at fault!!
So she actually owes the money back that she spent that week....even though someone took her money.

The desk told her that week that they could see on the records that a cast member DID go into the room, and should not have.
Now they are saying that it was housekeeping but also maintenance went in to fix a leaky sink????

We have never had any big problems at Disney.......I just want everyone to just be aware!!!

Moral of the story... don't ever leave cash behind.. don't bring cash if you can help it.. keep your wallet / purse with you at all times...

We always keep the "do not disturb" sign on the door.
T&T day if we're around we let them in, if not, we do the
trash ourselves and call down to mousekeeping for towels.
No problems. We always use the safe also.

This is what we do also. To OP, I am so sorry this has happened to your mother. I guess thieves don't realize how long some of us save for our trips.
