Keep September 2020 or move to December 2020?

We've currently got a split stay coming up Sept 5-13 2020. We've traveled to DW this exact week several times in the past. What we love about it: LOW CROWDS... I mean no one is ever there! Halloween decorations. And did I mention LOW CROWDS?

What I'm concerned about this year is lack of fireworks, possibility of not getting in the parks at all, and having to wear masks in 95 degree heat+ humidity in Florida

We could possibly move to December 6-14. We've always wanted to see everything decorated for the Christmas season, but have never done it.
What we're concerned about: Super high crowds

We're thinking that maybe masks wouldn't be a thing any more though, we'll have an easier time getting reservations into the parks (IF that's still a thing), and maybe some of the night time things like fireworks, etc. would be back

What do you guys think?

Honestly, I would move it. I think the weather will be better (not so hot) and the decorations at Christmas are just stunning. I could be completely wrong, but, while capacity may increase slightly as time goes on, I can't see WDW going to full capacity any time this year (complete speculation, of course). Quite honestly, we used to go mid-December every year and we never thought the crowds were that bad at all. The week leading up to Christmas and the one between Christmas and New Years were far worse! Yes, I would move it!

I agree with the pp that I'd move it. Disney will only be open about 2 months by the beginning of Sept and if it were me, I'd want to see more of how things are going. In addition, Disney at Christmas time is amazing! We've had 3 trips in December over the years and it's such a beautiful time to be at the World as everything is decorated and very festive.

will Disney even allow you to move at the moment? thought new or modified reservations were on hold..

Good question! We're actually a group booking and the rules are completely different for us than for regular reservations. We're talking with our representative right now and it looks promising that we'll be able to make some adjustments like this given the circumstances

A while ago we thought about going in Dec. 2020. Way before all this happened. Didn't work out, but one of my friends is a Disney World expert and told me that the beginning and middle of December is one of the best times to go. Said that crowds are lower cause most families haven't gotten out of school yet but you still get the Christmas decorations. I would love to go during early/mid December one day!

I agree too that I would reschedule for December if you can. Last year we went the first week in September and the crowds were minimal however it was SO hot. Wearing a mask would with that sort of heat just takes it to a whole new level.

I vote for rescheduling to December if you can. The first couple of weeks of December are usually not too bad from a crowd perspective. I envision the crowds will be even less this year.

This year in particular, I would expect your September week to be even more empty than usual. If crowds are your biggest concern, go in September. If being more comfortable in your mask in cooler weather is the biggest concern, then December it is. I don't expect any change in mask requirements or lack of fireworks or need for park reservations. The latter is definitely going to still be in place through the historically high crowds of the Christmas season.

There are still going to be masks required in December. Park reservations, too, which actually will help alleviate December crowding. But be aware that December is cold & flu season, and no one with coughing or fevers is going to be allowed into the parks. Be prepared to change or cancel plans if someone gets sick. Fireworks will still be unlikely.
