Keep or Sell Contract?

I think our last trip to the world may be actually that... Our last trip. I never thought it would happen. I guess Disney has lost its luster to us for many reasons... Too many to post here on the boards.
Now for my question. Do I try to sell my contract or do I just keep it and rent out the points?

Truly, if you are fairly certain you won't personally be going to a DVC resort again, it makes little sense to keep it. Renting seems to be a buyers market, and I don't see that changing until the economy really improves.

IMO, you should take a break for awhile before you decide to sell. It would be expensive to buy in again, if you end up regretting the decision to sell. Assuming you don't need the money right now, my advice is to take some time to make the "final" decision.

For a break, you could certainly rent your points.

You could also give one of the non-WDW DVC resorts a try (VB, HHI or VGC, if you think DL would be a big enough change for you).

You could also try one of the RCI exchanges or something in in one of the other Collections. Even though many here do not think those are good options, you already have the points and are not wanting to go to WDW for at least the foreseeable future. So I think in your case, giving those non-DVC options a try would give you time to make the right decision for your family.

Good luck!

I second this advice. In fact, we're thinking about trying this just to give ourselves a little breather from WDW.

I also agree with Chuck that renting points sounds like a good idea but may not be as easy as you think and may cause more headaches than it's worth. But it's better than letting them expire.

or bank and then take a great trip to aulani!

Sorry to read about your realization. You aren't alone, there are many of us who don't really care for Disney's direction.

I would sell and buy again latter if you get the urge again. Renting has its challenges, why put yourself through the headache.

Sell. If you're not happy with it now and there are so many reasons that you haven't listed, I say that it isn't going to get any better for you in the future. If on the off chance you do decide to visit WDW again, you can always book through CRO and pay cash rather than worrying about dues on a timeshare you rarely use.

I would give it a break and perhaps take CarolMN advise, perhaps rent your points for a year or use them to go somewhere else. And then after a year, if you still feel like you do sell them. Maybe you'll get a better price down the road as SSR's points are doing so well right now.

I agree with trying one of the RCI exchanges! There are plenty of places you can go, plus by you turning in your Disney time, other people who want to exchange into Disney can go on their Disney vacation. :woohoo:

I agree---try something different for a while. We love Hilton's Valdoro Mountain Lodge in Breckenridge, Colorado. Beautiful in the winter or summer and the accommodations are right up to par with DVC. There are some great places in North Carolina that we love too.

Looking at your siggie...it seems you have been quite a bit. I would TAKE A BREAK. We went 3 times a year two years in a row. Last year we went twice...this year ONCE. I can tell you that it bugged me to go an entire year. :rotfl: However we are all very excited to be be going back. Our older two kids ages 19 and 16 were getting burned out when we went the last year 3 times. This worked out perfectly. I would suggest what others on here said....RENT points before you sell your DVC. You might change your mind in another year. Try Vero and HHI for a change.

I am of the same school of thought with CarolMN. We're in a similar "what to do" situation. We are coming to feel like we NEED to visit the national parks and have been talking about it for a couple years. We know that we have had many more wonderful trips because we made the commitment to it through DVC. It has been great. We've thought about selling and putting the proceeds into a vacation account and also putting a monthly amount equal to our MFs to keep the account funded. All things considered that money will eventually run out. So we're still contemplating. Good luck to you.
