Keep hanging the laundry or appease the neighbors

Good luck with your new neighbor. I wouldn't budge an inch on the laundry. I suspect no matter what you do she will have issues so you may as well live your life. She will adapt.

MTE. If you give in on this, she'll try to boss you around on other issues. She is a new neighbor who didn't worry about whether you'd find her request rude, so you'll need to hang tough with this one.

You were way nicer than I would have been about it. Sounds like this neighbor is going to be loads of fun. You keep hanging that laundry!

Not only would I keep hanging it, I would buy the funkiest granny panties and man thongs out there and hang those too, but I'm mean that way.

If you give in to this you are setting yourself up to giving into everything else. No grilling, no cutting grass with a power mower, no back yard parties, no swing sets, no dog, etc etc etc......

This reminds me of an old neighbor I had by my moms house. They sold the house and told the buyer that they didn't want her to remove the bushes they planted. They came by a few months after and yelled at her for removing them. We all got a big laugh at that!

Keep hanging the laundry. You don't owe her an explanation, and I wouldn't go over and give her an answer. If you see her somewhere and she asks, you considered her request, but it's your home and you are going to continue hanging the laundry. No other explanation--it just gives her something to argue about.

Add me to the Keep Hanging It crew!

I don't hang my laundry outside for a few reasons but my dh does hang his jeans in the basement & the pellet stove dries them-I also hang our comfortors there & some blankets so they can dry by pellet stove.

But both of my neighbors hang out their laundry. I always laugh because I can tell you which day is for whites & which day is for colors on one side. I don't care as it doesn't bother me one bit. Heck I'd do it to but the pollen thing would get my dh & my kids & I have a fear of bugs hibernating in my clothes.

Yes. It comes in within a few hours. As soon as it's dry because I don't want the sun to fade my stuff, just dry it.

Given this, you are being more than reasonable. Tell her she needs to un-wad her panties and hang them on a clothesline.

Keep on hanging, and move all the undies (especially DH's drawers) so she can see them. Geesh, the noive of some people. She sounds like she is going to be trouble.

Yep, I'd continue to hang the laundry.

I wonder if she'd like it if you asked her to join you (and you could get her a welcome to the neighborhood gift certificate to Home Depot for the clothes line supplies) and help save the earth a bit by using solar and wind power for clothes drying instead of electricity or gas? ::yes::

I once did stop hanging my clothes on the line because of a neighbor though. It was a line directly behind the house so you could not see it from the street. He was mowing the lawn, and ran his mower alongside my house to get to the back and was mowing my lawn! What's the problem?

He was more than happy to be running his face through my lingerie! :rotfl::rotfl: I truly did think it was funny, but I did stop hanging those out there!

Keep hanging it.

If she gets all huffy about it again and you feel like giving her an answer as to why you're continuing to do it, say "It's environmentally friendly, it saves me money, and I've been doing it for X number of years. Sorry it bothers you." And resume your laundry hanging.

She sounds friendly. :(

Keep on Hanging. She needs more important things to worry about.:laundy::laundy::laundy::laundy:

Keep hanging. If you cave this time, she will continue to push you around. If she approaches you again on the subject, hand her a copy of this thread.

I would keep hanging it. She has a lot of nerve just moving to the neighborhood and already requesting you change your habits. Blech.

Add me to the keep on hanging group. Besides, it's not like the OP keeps the things on the line for days! She said she takes the things down after they're dry which, depending on the sun angle & such could only be a couple hours or so.

Your neighbor needs something else to worry about.

:snooty::snooty::snooty:Thats rude! I love the smell of my sheets and comforters when they are hung outside to dry. I say, too bad on her.:snooty:

We live in the house my husband grew up in. So he has lived here for over 40 years, me over 20 years. Two years ago new neighbors moved in across the street and told my husband they didnt like the way our boat looked in the yard could we move it. He said sure when the summer comes and it goes back in its slip till then this is its home and will be again come fall.:confused3:mad:
