I was just reading the post about being robbed at MK. Yesterday at DTD while in Once Upon A Toy I saw a mother leave her son in his stroller in front of a TV showing Chicken Little. She told him she would be right back. I overheard this and the store was very crowded so many others could have too. My mommy radar went off. The boy was in a stroller RIGHT IN FRONT OF AN OPEN DOOR! Anyone could have come up and pushed him out the door and since they would have been behind him he would have no clue who was pushing him. I kept my eye on his mom and watched her go all the way to the front of the store, and it's a big store! Being way too soft hearted for my own good I went back and kind of kept an eye on the boy. 1/2 an hour later she returned. I thought that maybe someone else was with them but no just the two of them. I didn't say anything but I really wish I had. Then later in the evening I saw a boy in a stroller outside of the rest room at DTD. I probably wouldn't have noticed him except that he was screaming at the top of his lungs and really struggling to get out of the stroller. At first I thought it was just a temper tantrum but then I noticed that there was no adult around anywhere. He really looked scared. Just as I was about to go over a CM came by and she went over to him. At that point I left because I wasn't sure I could keep my mouth shut a second time! I'm sorry this is so long but the point is, keep your children in sight at all times. ANYTHING could happen. We see it on the news most everyday. You do not need a ticket to get into DTD there is no bag check. You wouldn't leave your child unattended at the mall don't do it here. Just because you're on vavcation doesn't mean you leave your common sense at home. :sad2:

OMG!!! I couldnt believe that woman left that child alone for 1/2 hour!!!! :furious: It reminded me of the other night I was watching Nancy Grace a woman in Arizona left her 2 year son asleep in the car while she went Xmas shopping! She had the nerve to take her dog with her and she told the valet to watch her car and by the way her kid too! It goes to show you, you can have them, with no common sense needed! Im the same way though, I have 3 kids myself, and I probably would have done the same thing you did!!!!!

WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE!!!!! That mother is UNBELIEVEABLE! Ya know, it is women like that who are on the news crying because thier kids are missing! WHAT? WHY would you leave your child for a HALF HOUR?!?!? :furious:

UGH, good for you for watching that child! :thumbsup2

:sad2:
And had something happened to him I doubt she would tell police she had ignored him and was across a large crowded store for a half hour. It would be the ol' I just turned my back for a moment story. :sad2:

That is crazy! People leave their children unattended all of the time at the Disney Store where I work. As my DBF says, you need a pass a test to drive a car, but anybody can be a parent. :confused3

I cannot believe that. My child is 9 and I do not let her out of my sight. Even though she is growing up, in crowded places, she is REQUIRED to hold my hand, otherwise she does not go!!

Geez.....I can't believe people actually do things like that....no matter how many times I hear about it or see it....and I'm not a mother, but I do the same thing as the OP when I see things like that..... :sad2:

When I was working at the Disneystore we used to get parents who would leave their kids parked infront of the video screen and go shop, often out in the mall! Well whenever this happened and I was the manager on Duty I would give them 15 minutes and then call Mall security and have them take the child away. Im not a babysitter nor is any of my staff ( I do this in my current store now... well if I was at work, Im on Mat leave :) ) It was always lovely to explain to the parent that Mall security took the unattended child to their security station for saftey. Then when Mall security would come they would give the speech on why you cant just leave your kids alone. Still blows my mind that people would just leave thier kids unattended and go do thier own thing.

I knew someone who lived on a canal. She let her kids play behind the house, by the water, without supervision, much to the distress of the neighbors. Then they got a dog and finally installed a fence. Wouldn't want anything to happen to Puppy!

God forbid, can't ever leave Lassie alone!!!!! :furious: Timmy will be just fine. :furious: They said on tv that animals love unconditioinaly they never talk back or throw fits, children do. So apparently some people would rather choose.

That just infuriates me! I don't let my son out of my sight and usually if I'm shopping, he's in a cart, a stroller or holding my hand.

Some people really should not be parents.

I see things that make my hair stand on end all the time at DTD. Tonight, my sister, DD and I were walking back to our car. We'd just been to a movie. We saw little kids running across the road toward the parking lot by themselves. These kids appeared to be about six and maybe eight. The parents were at least a half block behind them on the sidewalk. If a car had been coming, there is no way the parents could have done anything in time.

I see people let their kids run around by themselves in World Of Disney all the time. No, they aren't babies, but they are often under ten years of age.

What really scares me is the kids messing around at Disney bus stops. They are right up at the edge where the buses come through, darting back and forth playing. The parents are off to the side or on a bench talking and not really paying attention. Yes, the Disney bus drivers are good, but those things don't stop on a dime. I'm really surprised that no child has been killed by a bus on resort property.

that is really sad. when we were at a VERY crowded walmart when miley was 3 months i would NOT let go of her stroller. no way in heck!!!

Glad to know your Mommy metor was working!!! I don't understand why people think it is ok to do this?! My son is almost 7 years old and there is no way I will let him out of my sight. If I have to go to the bathroom he will go with me...if he has to go then he better suck it up cuz he is going in the girls room if his Daddy aint around. I don't blame you for being upset...this is a major pet peeve of mine. I guess since I take care of children on a daily basis, it just kinda hits home.

thats was very cool of you...as a dad of 2 boys I would never do a thing like that...My oldest of now 10 is just now getting a little taste of independence....I still thinkits a bit young but he is a very smart mature 10 year old...So i trust him and his instincts...plus he looks 12 or older...I am almost 6 foot and he is above my shoulders....My youngest at 6 has to stay next to me at all times...like most of said some people need not be parents...OH I am sure i would have said something to the woman...

My family says I watch the news too much. I'm sorry, but these predators scare me to death. My daughter and I still take my just turned 8 year old g-son in the ladies' restroom with us because of what we're afraid could happen. I know some might not appreciate it, but what do you do? You don't always have single restrooms. We don't let him just wander around in the restroom. I hear too many horror stories.

You can call me cold-hearted or logical...whatever. I wouldn't give this woman pity at all if her child gotten snatched. In fact, I think charges would have been placed on the mother for "child endangerment."

There are other safety dangers to the child EVERYWHERE. When DD(7) was 34 months old, we were outside of my aunt and uncle's house visiting. DD left my sight for 2 minutes!!! This was long enough for her to find her way under a gate in the back yard and into the swimming pool in 50 degree temps. I nearly lost her that day.... (but she is fine, thank god)
I STILL panic when she leaves my sight. I am a very overprotective mom, but even when you are overprotective, it just takes one time to let your gard down and BAM!!!! Something horrible happens.
Thank you for being the protective mom to this ladies child. SHe would never have forgiven herself if something would have happened.
