Wednesday 23rd October 2002 The Journey
We got up at a reasonable time this morning. The dreaded day had come when my babies had to go to the cattery. They were not impressed they could tell something was up. We drove them to Cosy Cats, which isnt too far away and left them with beds, blankets, climbing frame and toys. This is when I feel guilty but I was sure they would settle
We drove up to Heathrow in the afternoon and arrived around 5pm. We were staying at the Quality Hotel overnight (this included the 15 days parking). The hotel was modern and clean. Dinner was of a good standard too. We had an alarm call set for 4.45am!!
Thursday 24th October 2002 Day One
We were up very early this morning 4.45am! It was dark, cold and frosty outside. We drove to the Heathrow parking, this wasnt very far at all. Then caught the shuttle bus to Terminal 3 we were getting very excited now. On arrival we checked in with United and there was no queue. We managed to get a window seat to Washington were we were going to change. We shopped for a little while I brought some lovely Ghost perfume. Breakfast was Bagels at the airport, then we went to the departure gate.
The flight was good. We seemed to have lots of legroom and the food was impressive for airline food. On arrival in Washington we went through Customs and Immigration moved our bags less the 100 feet and then to the departure lounge for our onward flight. There was a great shop here that sold White House merchandise but nothing in connection with the West Wing one of my favourite programmes.
Just before we boarded they were trying to get volunteers to come off the flight as they were overbooked. They were offering a free internal flight to compensate! We boarded the flight and managed to get exit seats this time, so there was loads of room. It was an uneventful flight and we landed on time.
We walked right through to baggage collection and our Tiffany Town Car driver was waiting with a sign with our name on I liked this. We collected our luggage and walked outside wow that heat, doesnt it just hit you!! We set off to Pubix for the essentials. Beer, Wine, Chips, Water and kittie treats for my babies. As we left the supermarket and set off for Boardwalk Villas - it rained short and sweet though!
When we arrived at the Boardwalk to check in, I was so excited really keeping my fingers crossed for a great view. Well we got our Welcome Home and were assigned our room. We were on the 5th floor, near the elevators, now I had requested a Boardwalk view but this wasnt mentioned. We got the elevator to the 5th floor, our room was about 3-4 doors down from the elevator. We opened the door and I ran to the window, flung open the curtains and there it was my view! We overlooked the Green, we could see the boat dock, the Yacht and Beach and the top of Spaceship Earth. We were so pleased with the view and so lucky.

After settling in to the room, we strolled around the Boardwalk to the Yacht and Beach Club for dinner at Beaches and Cream yum! Burgers for both of us no sundaes this time. We strolled back around the lake and went up to our room. There was a trumpeter and Banjo player on the village green, we enjoyed listening to these from our balcony. At 9pm we could also see the high Illuminations fireworks. The boardwalk is a great location and we are so pleased we brought into DVC and that the Boardwalk is our home.
