Katrina Krooks!

Mad about the people who are scamming the system by standing in line more than once to get vouchers/debit cards, posing to be Katrina victims and foreign websites scamming donations from unsuspecting do gooders.

There's always someone who has to be greedy and mess it up for everyone else. So much for honesty. Believe me, I feel for those honest people who deserve the money and who live paycheck to paycheck. Too bad they couldn't weed out the scammers so our hard earned money doesn't go to them.

Rhode Island took in about 106 hurricane victims. One was arrested on a warrant from 2 other states and they just finished background checks on them and more than 1/2 of them have criminal records!!

I know it's nice and kind that some people actually let these victims live in their home, but I saw on the news that 2,000 are registered sex offenders! I have 2 children and my first priority is to keep them safe. I will send money and clothes because you have to feel for these people. I felt so bad for the guy who lost his wife because she just couldn't hold on - sad.

I think it's wonderful that so many people took families in. However, I admit that I'm too afraid to do anything like that. Sadly, a stranger is a stranger and you just never know.

Ohhh....yep--evil people.

And then people who do deserve it miss out :(.

Locally--though not a Krook... A family took in a Katrina family--evidently featured on NBC and everything. Well the family moved out....two sides to the story...the homeowner claims that the parents were not caring for the children properly...the Katrina victim felt she was verbally abused...and this was witnessed by daycare workers one day when both women went to pick up the children. They reported a strong behavior change in the Katrina mom when she moved out of the woman's home and stayed with them (one of the daycare workers) for the night before leavign the county.

Lots of items were donated including a freezer for the family for extra food. Now all the donors are all huffy--and the homeowner says they have no intention of keeping anything.

We weren't there--don't know what happened...I do hope she donates what the family didn't take..but already she is getting jumped on.

Pretty sad situation all around.

Just wait til the carpetbaggers are revealed from the rehab. Ya think standing in line twice is bad. These guys will make those line people look like two year olds. Count on it.

it's so sad that it has to come down to people scamming the system. I hope it doesnt' take away from the people that truly need it!

There was a local story about the arrest of a Northeast Florida man who registered as many "Katrina" website name variations that he could prior to the storm hitting, and set up websites with a donation option. He SAYS he never activated the donation option, but intended to sell the websites to charities. Riiight.

We had a lady here in Nebraska who used her MS license to get a Red Cross debit card. Then she was bragging to people, but luckily they caught her! You'd have to be raised with NO morals whatsoever to do something like that.

I partially moved into my new home in New Orleans a week before Katrina.

I would like to register with the Red Cross in case any of my friends are looking for me. My primary email was a forwarding account through Tulane which no longer works. Many of my friends had the same thing so we can't contact each other.

But I DO NOT WANT ANY MONEY. I think my home is okay. If it's not my losses will be nothing compared to what others are experiencing.

So I haven't registered for fear that I would somehow look like I was trying to profit. I don't need the money. I've donated a LOT of money for Katrina victims.

New Orleans and Louisiana corruption is legendary. Nagin is probably the first honest mayor they've ever had. He was swimming upstream trying to overcome decades of corruption before Katrina. He's a very smart man.

Blanco may not be the sharpest tool in the box, but I've never heard anyone call her dishonest. Blanco and Nagin are certainly not perfect but they are two of the more honest LA politicians.

It's the rest of the LA local politicians - particularly at the local level who will try to do more harm than any evacuee trying to get two cards. Forget about carpetbaggers they have more than enough local talent for the scamming to begin. I truly hope there will be some kind real oversight.

Edwin Edwards, the former governor who is currently in jail, must just be chomping at the bit trying to figure out how to get his hands on some of that money from his jail cell.
