Hi!

I’m Katie.:flower3:
P1010405.jpg

I’m 5”2, 144 lbs and not too happy with it.

Okay and it could be worse, right? But I just don’t want to BE that way anymore. My fiancé and I have been together since 2005 and when we met I was tan, thin and always had a manicure.

Ha, but everyone here knows that doesn’t last as soon as you get comfortable. And we did get comfortable. And I went from 110, to 125 (which I was fine with 110 might have even been too thin), to 135, to 144. And here I sit. It’s funny because sometimes I’ll go through weeks of binge eating as many Ham’s chips as I can find, and some weeks I eat celery all day. Either way. 144. And it’s because of me not committing to myself. So much of my dieting is superficial and so much is petty and so much is silly…but what my diet thought process never considers is health. When I claim to be on a diet I want to be 120 lbs by February 20th. And I am starting on January 10th. Just not realistic. I always set my goals like that. For some reason, this new year, this thought process changed.

I have come to terms that I will never NOT eat Arby’s some times. I will never NOT enjoy my Mom’s Sunday meal. And I will never never never not have dessert on Saturday date nights.

Doesn’t sound like the traditional beginning to a Wish journal does it? :rotfl2:

What I DID realize is that I need to learn moderation and exercise. I need to learn the right foods. Like a Lean Cuisine for lunch every day, albeit “healthy”, does not have the lean protein I need. What I did realize is that if I stick to a good workout regime and good healthy portions that it is okay to have that little piece of pie on Thanksgiving. And it is okay to get a scoop of ice cream on Saturday. And I realized that if I have that scoop of ice cream; frozen yogurt and “sinless” ice creams are there. I don’t have to have a Gotta Have It Birthday Cake Remix from Coldstone. (But MAN those are good.)
And I realized that I could make 39842930840238492384820934928 resolutions with all my realizing I did. But I only made one.

One.

I am running the Disneyworld Half Marathon January 9th, 2010. I figure, with that as my goal, all of the other things will fall into place. With that as my goal, I am bound to get down to that weight I was comfortable with. And with that as my goal I am bound to learn to eat healthier because my body will demand me to since my running training is so vigorous. And I registered today. Ain’t backing out now—that thing was $120! Good thing too because I am getting married July 17th, 2010 and I would like to look pretty good in my Vera Wang. Haha I wish. My David’s Bridal most likely.

My training consists of, beginning running training, then 5k training, then 8k training, then 10k training, then the half marathon training. I figure I have a whole year—so if I split it up into smaller races, it will be easier. My fiancé is doing this all with me. We decided together that if we ran multiple local races we will get used to the racing atmosphere and come half marathon time in Disney. We will be ready.

Here is my detailed training for the beginning running training (Note: the beginning running training I found is from Runners World, which I joined. It consists of run/walk until you can run for 30 minutes straight at a 12 minute mile pace):

Monday: Cycle class for 45 minutes. Beginning running training for 30 mintues.
Tuesday: Body Pump (a vigorous weight class. I need to build muscle too!)
Wednesday: Cycle class for 45 minutes. Beginning running training for 30 mintues.
Thursday: Body Pump
Friday: Cycle class for 45 minutes. Beginning running training for 30 mintues.
Saturday: Alternate between: 1. Body Pump. Beginning Running Training for 30 minutes. And 2. Running in the local park when it is warm enough.
Sunday: Rest.

As far as diet goes. I joined the daily plate and am looking to eat all around healthier. I highly recommend this site: www.thedailyplate.com because even if you break down and get McDonalds…all the calories are there. I also bought a little journal to write down how I feel when I eat bad things so I can narrow down why and hopefully avoid it.

I hope you guys tune in and read and leave comments. I could use this motivation all year!

Katie, your plan sounds good! I think one of the biggest steps towards health is being realistic, setting achievable goals and allowing splurges and treats occasionally. I am impressed that you are so committed. Take it from me, doing the hard work before you have a huge amount of weight to lose is very smart! Keep up your good work, your are beautiful, love the picture!

You have a full year to make your goal to the marathon, and you can do it!

Welcome to Wish!:goodvibes

Oh forgot to add, I am a big fan of the birthday cake remix myself! I mean who isn't??

Thanks Amy! I love the encouragement here!

So today. Its alright. I didnt work out this morning. I didnt feel good and decided to sleep it off before going to work. It helped. Getting up at 5 AM for 1.5 hours of training would have totally caused a "call in" to the job today and its year end and Im an accountant so...:rotfl2:

Breakfast: Half cup raisin bran. Half small banana. 1/4 cup skim milk.

Snack: Yopliet 100 cal Light Raspberry Cheesecake yogurt

Lunch: 98% fat free turkey breast, one slice munster cheese, mustard and lettuce sandwhich with 100 calorie pack of cheese nips.

Snack: 6 twizzlers. I know.

Dinner: Here is the dilemma. Im getting my hair done tonight and I will be there from 5-8PM. Which means I'll leave depressed I paid so much for highlights and starving. I sense a McDonalds pick up coming on.Help!

Ill post what happens. :rolleyes1

Hi Katie, welcome to WISH! We are very similar in size, except you are way more motivated than me going for a marathon! :worship: Good for you, it's great that you have someone to be your workout buddy.

I have to get up at 4:45am in order to work out before work, you eventually get used to it, so stick with it. You are off to a good start, keep it up!

Amy

Welcome to WISH, Katie!:goodvibes

It sounds like you have a great plan in place to accomplish your goals. :cheer2: You CAN do it!:cheer2:

Hope you have a great evening ahead!:goodvibes

Hi Katie, I am dying to know if McDonald's got your business or not! If they did, don't stress, tomorrow is a new day! It can be really hard to stay on track when your schedule gets messed up with something like a long hair appt. I bet your hair is lovely!

Keep up the good work, you can do it!

They got it! :sad2:

But I only had a Cheeseburger happy meal with apples and diet coke. Thats not TOOO bad. I was happy with the result.

Today is a little daunting but I reminded myself that these types of days will happen. All my coworkers are going out to a work lunch. Of course they picked....dun dun dunnnn MEXICAN :scared1:
I mean seriously, what is healthy at Mexican?!?! Also my mom is making a good dinner of keilbasa and sauerkraut. I know that it probably doesnt sound that good to many but I could eat a whole crockpot of that stuff. Well heres the plan:

Exercise: I did it! Body pump for an hour and running training 30 minutes.

Breakfast: 1/2 cup raisin bran, 1/2 banana, 1/4 cup milk

Snack: Weight watchers muffin

Lunch: Mexican. BUT I am aiming only to have 10 chips with salsa and getting ONE all white meat chicken enchilada with light sauce and no cheese.

Dinner: Keilbasa and sauerkraut. But I am having one piece with 1/2 cup of sauerkraut, 1/2 cup potatoes and 1 piece of bread.

Can I do this?!?!? I hope so! :wizard:

You can do it! A year is definitely plenty of time to train for a half marathon. Doing races to work up to it is a good strategy as well, that is what I did when I did the half marathon in virginia beach in 07. I started out with a 5 mile race, then did a 15 K and then the half marathon. After you get going the miles aren't so bad. Good luck on your journey.

Katie, well done at McDonalds! When I am being good, I will get a Happy Meal so that I can still have my favorite (longtime McD's lover here) without going beserk. Your plan today sounded good. Mexican is tough, but it can be done! I hope today went well for you, you are really doing great. And that is awesome you got up early and got that workout in right off the bat!:thumbsup2

Thanks for that!

Well this weekend was kind of a bust. I was house and dog sitting for my parents and for some reason it threw me out of my routine and I didnt work out Fri or Saturday. Does that happen to anyone else? One little thing and it just throws you off track? :confused3

Anyways. So my family is really into my training for the Half. Most are in Michigan still (I am from Detroit now in Winston-Salem, NC) So I started www.marathonweekendorbust.blogspot.com so they can read about my training and struggles and of course victories too! I put it in my siggie so that if any of you ever want to check it out you can!

Ill be back tomorrow with a healthy eating and work out report! Bye Disers!

Katie, weekends in general are tough for me (and most everybody else around here) and when you throw a kink into your normal routine, that makes it even harder! Its a new week, you'll be back on track! Slip ups are okay and to be expected. Its what you do afterwards that counts. I am betting you will be back on track today!:goodvibes

Just found out that my best friend has cancer (At 27). I really let this get the best of me and havent been doing good at all as far as eating right and working out. All my emotions are coming out in my need for ice cream. Sorry Wish Disers...got to get back on track....

katie - first, I am sorry to hear about your friend. Hugs. I was drawn to the title of your thread because I also registered last week for my first ever 1/2 marathon which is next year at Disney too! Woo hoo 2010! I am duly impressed by your workout schedule and am new to running and training myself. I have been going to the gym 3 days a week and then walking/running (mostly walking fast) on the treadmill at home two days. I am not new to the gym, (but in no way ready to run a marathon) just new to marathon training. Is you body pump class a weight training class? Thats very important for strength and weight loss, but I am sure you know that already. What has worked for me maintaining my weight for a long time now, I think, has been eating raisin bran every morning! So I was drawn to that choice of yours as well. :) I actually started eating it when I was pregnant with my first child 6 years ago, due to AHEM - digestive issues and I have literally eaten it every morning for the past six years. I go through phases where I don't work out at all for months but always maintain my weight. I don't know if it would help you, but I eat a full cup with skim milk and then a cup of coffee and I am never hungry until lunch time. People ask me how I keep my weight down and I swear that its my secret. It keeps things moving. LOL!

We did the 5k Circle of Life this past marathon weekend and that was what got us hooked. Well, and I also want a cool shirt and medal.

Good luck with your training and I will be following along on your journey. Since my husband and I paid the fee as well, thats what is keeping me motivated. Keep us posted! And don't deprive yourself of the foods you want, just cut the portion sizes down and you will be just fine.

Katie, I am so sorry about your friend. That is so tough and so not fair. Just hang in there and remember to treat yourself right. I think I can safely say, many of us are stress eaters so we can relate to what you are going thorugh with the ice cream. Thinking about you and your friend, keep us posted. :grouphug:

Oh Katie...Sweetie, I am so sorry. :sad1: We will keep your friend and you in our thoughts and prayers. :grouphug:

I'mmmmm baaaccckkk! Woo-eee that was a long few weeks. I didnt need it but I needed it if you get my drift. It took some time to regroup...some days of only eating pizza and some days of working out for 2 hours and barely breaking 1000 calories to admit that when something was thrown in my face that set me off track I didn't know how to get back on track myself!

I will just be up front in saying I gained 2 lbs in my weeks of being silly. :scared1: Its time to get back to it.

So here we go! :)

1. My friend doesnt have cancer! :cool1: They removed the tumor, had to take some of her small intestine, some of her colon AND she is on all kinds of tubes...BUT it was benign! I know big mistake by the Doctors right?! I am just so happy!

2. I joined Weight Watchers. Counting calories on my own wasnt working for me. I joined online and it has helped alot. I am just really getting rolling on it.

3. I really am starting to get my life focused on me. I am researching into new schools and jobs and it is helping me be more positive about myself.

Today:

Breakfast: 1/2 weight watcher bagel with 1 tsp of reduced fat peanut butter and black coffee with 1 tsp of fat free creamer. (2 pts)
Snack: 1 cup grapes and 1 fat free yogurt (4 pts)
Lunch: Lean cuisine (6 pts)
Dinner: Well it was looking like a healthy lean burger but my Daddy wants to take me for Japanease food. Who can turn down that? :confused3 :rotfl2: So I will get the chicken, brown rice and veggies and AS MUCH as it will hurt...no sauce. :sad2:  :scared1: I am thinking probably around 13 pts? My week resets tomorrow so I'll be back on start!

Oh. Because of job and school and all that stuff my April birthday trip to the Dis might be in the air. If I take another job we will move it to 10 days in September and call it my birthday trip but still...listen my birthday is April 21st...:rotfl2: If I go back for my Masters we will go in April and rent out the rest of our developer points. Still sad. Is it bad I am planning my life around Disney vacations? :rotfl:

Its good to be back WISH Disers!

Is it bad I am planning my life around Disney vacations? :rotfl:

Nope, I think most of us on the DIS do that!:thumbsup2

Welcome Back Katie,

We missed you around here, but completely understand the need to walk away for awhile.

I am so thankful that your friend does not have cancer!!!! That is excellent news!

That's great that you joined Weight Watchers! I hope it works out for you!:goodvibes

Glad you're back, Katie!:goodvibes
