DPR stands for Daily Progress Report. I'm not sure where I learned that, most likely from my teaching days. At any rate it helps me to focus on my goals if I keep up with them daily.
I joined WISH last night to have a place to share my progress(or regress) as the case may be. I've been visiting the DIS boards for so long that it feels like home. I need to lose about 10 lbs. My weight's at an all time high, clothes too snug, face pudgy. You know the look. I like to weigh-in everyday, contrary to what most of the diet plans recommend. This a.m. I had gained another 1/2 pound. Oh joy. Here's hoping that's the end of my upward spiral.
I'm a good exerciser, so that parts covered.I'm not following a specific diet, but I know what works for me. Portion control is my #1 problem. I don't need to eat like a lumberjack. Some other strategies that work are limiting snacks to fruit and veggies, minimal amounts of sugar, low fat and fewer starches.
Since it's morning I can start with a clean slate. That's always fun. I guess that's all I have to say for now. I'm glad to be here.

:wave2: Kate,

Welcome to WISH journalling. You will find all kinds of support here. Looks like you have a great plan. Good Luck!

I've lost 1 1/2 lbs. since I started this journal on 5/1. Yippee! I'm prone to yo-yoing so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'll keep it down. It's raining here today so it may interfere with my workout, which is usually a 3 mile walk and a 5 mile bike. I have a bench stepper that I use when the weather's bad.
It's not as challenging but better then nothing. Thanks to Strings and CheapMom for their kindly welcomes. I feel encouraged. I want to lose 5 lbs. by May 30th ( my 51st birthday). I'll look forward to changing the WISH icon to the 5 lb. loss. Good day to all.

Have missed a few days, busy trying to get out-of-town for Mom's Day.
I've actually lost a total of 2 lbs. since I began on 5/1. I'm concerned about tomorrow's weigh-in though. I ate a huge serving of pasta tonight and also didn't manage to squeeze in exercising. I was in one of those devil may care moods. So back on the saddle again Friday.

Kate- congats on the 2 pounds!:Pinkbounc :bounce:
Good luck at weigh in- Don't worry about the pasta- just keep up the attitude of "Fall of the horse, get right back on" We all fall off the horse once in a while but as long as we get back on we will have eventual success!
Where are you going for Mother's Day?
Have a fun weekend!
Mary

I'm back from my Mother's day trip and as I suspected I ate back 1 1/2 lbs. of the 2 I lost since starting the journal. My family loves to eat at restaurants, need I say more? But as Mary so kindly reminded me...time to get back on the horse. Yo-yoing is my specialty, so no problem there. Yesterday was the first day of "swimming season" for me. We have a pool and I love doing laps. I know this is going to help get that winter weight off.

5/14/04

Well, after 2 weeks into the WISH challenge I've lost 2 lbs. I was really on a roll until I gained most of it back Mother's Day weekend. Now it's back off and I hope to lose even more. I'm still swimming a half mile daily and planning to work up to a mile.

Holding steady at 2 lb. loss, which is good for a chronic yo-yoer (I bet that's not a real word). I'm glad we're not going out-of-town this weekend. I do SO much better when I'm home eating my own food. Restaurants are a killer for me. I totally lose control. Looking forward to some downward movement on my scale. Happy weekend to anyone who might read this.

Congrats on the 2 lb weight loss. You are doing great swimming your laps. That is some hard exercise. I know the club you used to belong to......the yo-yo dieting chapter. I have canceled my membership about 8 weeks ago and hope never to renew.;)

Have a good weekend.:D

5/16/04

I'm up to a mile now in swimming my laps. It feels good. My loss is still 2 lbs. I need to work on cutting down some more on my total calories if I really want to see progress.

A mile of laps is awesome. The portion control/food choices will come with time.:D

I'm almost afraid to type it, but I lost another pound today, for a total of 3. I'm so used to my up and down weight that I'm never sure it's going to stay down. Keeping my fingers crossed!

5/20/04

Well, I knew it was too good to be true. I gained that last lb. back. The Yo-Yo bandit strikes again! I'm not terribly discouraged. I'll try harder tomorrow. I did do laps today, only 1/2 mile though. I worked a long day and couldn't fit in a longer swim. Will check in again soon, hopefully with better news. Bye-bye.

Kate, I've finally made it over to your journal! Looks like you're on the right track. I was quite a swimmer in my younger days - used to love doing laps! You can also try walking or running in waist-deep water - that's quite a workout and easier on your knees than running on land.

Best wishes for a wonderful Monday!! :sunny:

It's been about a week since my last entry. So much for the "daily progress report". Well, at least the news is good today. My current total loss since starting the journal is 3.5 lbs. I had a goal of losing 5 by this Sun. May 30th. It's not looking likely, but hey could happen. If not, I've got my 7/4 goal to focus on. Thanks to DoeWDW and wilderness01 for taking the time to read and comment. I've been remiss about taking the time to read other WISHers'
journals. Need to work on that as I know it helps to get feedback. In reply to
w01, I haven't gotten into the measurement angle yet. Guess it feels like one more thing to bother with. I can usually tell by the way my pants fit. And Doe,
I do love my swimming. It's perfect weather for it in sunny FL right now. Which is what I'm off to do right now, so toodle-loo...

3.5 pounds gone!! YAY!!! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :jumping3:

Hope your holiday weekend is filled with fun, healthy food and exercise! :sunny:

6/7/04

I'm managing to stay at 3.5 lbs. lost, at least most days. I'm faithful to my exercise but pitiful at dieting. Having a hubby that loves pasta for dinner doesn't help any. Sure wish my self-control was better.

Kate, you're getting your exercise in and that's half the battle! Good for you!!

If DH wants pasta, make it for him! Just try to make a chicken breast or some meatballs to go with it for you, so you're getting some protein in with all those carbs! Fill up on the protein and have a little pasta to top it off. You'll get the hang of it, but it does take time and patience to make changes. Don't be too hard on yourself, OK? Oh, and you can't beat a George Foreman grill for grilling a chicken breast in no time flat while the pasta is cooking! :D

Make it a good day today!! :sunny:
