I searched but didn't find a thread. Thoughts on this? She's such a beautiful woman and I think the portrait is horrid. She looks much older than she is- and much older than she looks. Do over...

I agree...I think that's what she'll look like in 20 years.

I think the Queen had something to do with his. After William and Kate decided not to go to the Queen's Christmas function, I think the Queen did this to embarrass her forever. And Kate has to be gracious about it whether she likes it or not.

Kate is a young, beautiful woman and the painting does make her look 20 years older. Having said that, 20 years from now, she will still be a beautiful woman.

I think it looks like she is tired and in the middle of saying something. It's like her face is in motion and the artist captured a stage in the middle.

What part of it makes her 20 years older? I'm 20 years older than her and don't look nearly as young as the portrait. To me, the portrait looks like she's in her early 30's, which she is.

I don't really like the portrait either. To me, it seems that her eyes are backwards and it throws me off. I'm not sure why the artist added all the lines under her eyes, that makes her look much older. Plus, the smile isn't very natural looking and if he wanted to capture her smiling it should have been her natural smile (she has a beautiful smile).

I hope that the portrait comes off better in person that it does in photos.

I didn't think the portrait was particularly flattering either. Her smile is usually so sunny--this smile wasn't what I normally associate with her. Her eyes look old and tired, too. I would have expected a more flattering picture.

Kate has so much zip and sparkle. The portrait does not capture any of it. Kate has such a lively and fun look about her. The portrait is dull and dark. No light.
It would have been much better if the portrait was of her smiling showing her teeth, IMO. Then her eyes would have been smiling more too. Not sure about the artist. It's just so very off.

I'm not fond of it either.

I heard an interview with the artist yesterday and he said that he changed her eye color some. He took that liberty for the purpose of making her eyes match her blouse and the background better.

I think it looks a little creepy, especially with the dark background and dull hair, and her expression looks mid-blink to me. I think she's pretty, in a very everyday way, but not beautiful or gorgeous, so the portrait doesn't seem so off to me as it does to everyone else. I think it could be better, but really fine.

I don't hate it, but I don't think it's the most flattering. Maybe it looks better in person? The idea of the Queen pressuring the artist to make Kate look bad is hilarious. Like when SNL does the royals and Fred Armisen plays the Queen.

I agree. This photo makes her look tired. Where is the sparkle in her eyes? I do not think this portrays her well, at all.
