Well, here I am at last! I have been lurking and occasionally posting around here for the last few months and I'm finally ready to start my own PJ!! I have been so inspired by all the other Disney brides (and sometimes grooms) on here and can't wait to share my own plans. Just a warning, I tend to be a little long-winded... hopefully it won't get to be too annoying. :rotfl:

So, first, I'll begin with our story.

DF and I met about 8 years ago. I was home from college for the summer and working at a movie theater in our home town. DF happened to be working there as well and apparently, as I would find out many years later, had a crush on me. I was clueless at the time. So, the end of summer came and we went our separate ways. We chatted occasionally through IM and we hung out when he came up to my school once but that was about it.

Fast forward to March 2007. I was on Facebook (which is pretty rare for me) and happened to look at DF's profile. He was having a horrible week. His beloved grandfather had passed away and a relationship he was in had just ended. I messaged him to suggest we get together, which we did. I just wanted to be a shoulder for him (as I was casually dating someone else at the time) but after hanging out several more times I realized that I really liked this guy! He was quirky and goofy and pretty much the sweetest guy I'd ever met. We officially started dating June 19, 2007 and have hardly spent a day apart since then.

We actually first got engaged in December 2008 (at Disney World!!). It was a very "us" engagement story. DF had been trying to find a perfect, quiet time while we were in the parks but, as he later told me, anytime he was ready to try there would always be a swarm of tourists who'd show up and ruin it :lmao:. He ended up proposing to me back at our hotel. I just gotten in bed and shut off the light when he asked me to turn it back on for a second. I did and there he was, on one knee with the ring. I said yes of course, but wasn't surprised at all. I had been 90% sure he was going to propose on the trip (he can't keep a secret to save his life) so I was just waiting for it. It was all very sweet. :cloud9:

We had planned to be married in our hometown of Charlotte, NC in February 2010. After several months of being engaged though, we ran into a rocky patch. Neither of us wanted to break up but we knew we needed to work through some things together before we started planning for a wedding (not to mention a marriage!). So, we postponed the wedding, and spent time just working on our relationship and now I feel like we're better and stronger together than ever. AND, it's given us more time to decide what we really want for our wedding, which, as it turns out, is an Escape wedding at Disney World with our closest family and friends.

We will be married on August 15, 2011 at Sea Breeze Point!!!! :cheer2:

I'm so excited and can't wait to begin this next chapter of our lives. I think starting it out at the place where fairy tales come true is a pretty good way to begin.

Congrats and welcome!!!
Df and I got together because of facebook as well! And we are getting married in September also :)
Can't wait to hear all of your plans!

Thanks so much! I'm looking so forward to this aspect of planning our wedding. Disboards is a very special place. :thumbsup2

Sooo, I'm trying to figure out how exactly one posts pictures to Disboards. I'm in my 20's so you would think I'd be a little more savvy when it comes to this sort of thing. Unfortunately, no. Until I get my head around that, I'm just going to share a "Common Sense Wedding Glossary" that I stole from our local paper recently. I think many a bride will be able to appreciate the humor. ;)

Laura's Fancy Wedding Glossary

Boutonnière - A floral decoration worn by the groom, best man, ushers and male relatives of the bride and groom. It is typically worn on the left lapel of their jackets. None of them will know how or where to put these on.

Bouquet toss - Hazardous tradition. Scrambling and diving frequently results in injury. Wear a helmet.

Bridezilla - A term that must NOT be used in the bride's presence, or people will DIE.

Budget - An important but overlooked detail.

Buttercream - Delicious frosting made from butter (hence the name). There's no such thing as too much buttercream.

Cake topper - Decorative figurine that goes on top of the wedding cake. It's generally lost a few hours before the wedding.

Cocktail hour - Drinks and hors d'oeuvres served after the ceremony. Generally enjoyed by everyone but the bride and groom, who have to take photos.

DIY - Stands for "do it yourself" bride. They make all the decorations and favors by hand, and may not be entirely human.

Elopement - A highly stigmatized event that's associated with secrecy and shadiness, even if it's more financially practical than a formal wedding.

Embossing - Expensive technique used on invitations to create a raised relief surface. Considered more appropriate than clip art.

Engagement ring - A shiny object designed to distract the bride from the stress of wedding planning.

Etiquette - Rules that no one fully understands or agrees upon, but are taken very seriously.

Faint - Occasionally happens during long ceremonies, especially when members of the wedding party have been too busy to eat or sleep. It is customary to post on YouTube.

Flatware - Fancy term for utensils. Somehow related to, but different from tableware, glassware and kitchenware.

Flower girl - Highly unpredictable. (See also: Ring bearer.)

Flowers - Beautiful but extremely expensive. Bride will contemplate season, color scheme and meaning, which will be lost on everyone. Someone will be allergic.

Food poisoning - A good reason to stick with a reputable caterer.

Formal wear - Fancy clothing. Generally hot and itchy.

Gift registry - Something you're expected to do so you don't end up with seven gravy boats. Even if you're fond of gravy boats, experts recommend the registry.

Inebriated guests - Can be found at receptions that have an open bar or cash bar. Can even be found at alcohol-free receptions.

Makeup - Something you spend a good deal of time and money on, and is ruined when you get verklempt during the ceremony. The photographer will capture the very moment the mascara and snot are running down your face. This will be everyone's favorite photo.

Marriage - Happens after a wedding. Takes longer but doesn't require as much planning.

MOH - Abbreviation for maid of honor. Used by brides to confuse people.

Ring bearer - Extremely dangerous. (See also: Flower girl)

Table decorations - Will take countless hours to conceptualize and assemble. People will say nice things, but they'll be more interested in the food and alcohol.

Taffeta - Can be matte, shiny or iridescent. Tends to be stiff and crispy. Worn as punishment.

Vows - An expression of your deep, undying commitment to your spouse without the use of obscenities.

Wedding superstition - Someone will gasp if you don't wear blue underwear. The color is significant because it rhymes with "new."

White - Color of a wedding dress. Supposed to represent purity and virtue, but makes brides worry about looking fat.

Thanks for posting that!!!! I needed the laugh!!!

And try photobucket for your pics.

And you're right, df and I will probably have a facebook until we are 90 just because of that reason. We have to appreciate it...haha!!

This was too cute!! What a hilarious post!! I love it!

First of all, I just had to comment because you are getting married two days after I am! :goodvibes I will be in Disney for my honeymoon while you are getting married. Congratulations! Facebook is great for relationships, it seems. In a way it contributed to mine (or at least the lack of facebook did) - DF didn't have a facebook, and when he first met me I was dating someone else at the time... but because he didn't have facebook, he didn't know it! I doubt if he would have pursued me the way he did if he knew I was taken at the time, he's too noble. But, I convinced him to get one once we got together, and his way of officially asking me to be his girlfriend was asking if he could put his relationship status on his new facebook as "in a relationship" :thumbsup2

I have been reading along with your PJ and your plans look great so far! We have actually changed our date now to August (*sigh* I THOUGHT we had everything figured out but apparently not). It would have been cool if we'd been there at the same time though! Funny how FB brings people together. :goodvibes

:rotfl2: love your post! It is right on...
Welcome by the way, can't wait to read more!

Thanks so much! :goodvibes

I thought it was so crazy that FB brought me and DF together but it seems like it's played a part in a lot of people's relationships. Too funny! Your DF sounds like a sneaky one (in a good way!) ;)

That is just sooo funny. Look forward to reading more. :rotfl2:

Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it as much as I did. :rotfl:

Hey everyone! I've been MIA for a little while. I'm working both a full time and a part time job at the moment so my posts may be a little sporadic. :scared1:

So, I guess I ought to introduce you to the cast and crew of this production!

Daniel, DF- 25-years-old, currently a student studying to go into Risk Management and Insurance, graduating May of 2012. Pretty serious sounding field, but he has a goofy side to him (see exhibit A below)...:rotfl:
DanielSilly.jpg
[/IMG]

Kate, (me, the bride!)- 26-years-old, Grant Writer for a nonprofit social services agency. I also have a bit of a silly streak.

And here's are some slightly more normal photos of us both on the trip we got engaged on. :cloud9:

Pluto kissed my hand! Aww. After this, Daniel pointed to my ring and Pluto pretended to be afraid he was going to get beaten up by the jealous fiance. He totally played the whole thing up. Kudos to an awesome CM for giving 110%!

Joining our little wedding party will be my mom, dad, stepmom and brother (as a GM), and DF's mom, dad, sister (BM) and brother (Best Man- how do you abbreviate this so it's not confused with bridesmaids??). My best friend will be my MOH and then another dear friend will be a second BM. I think that about covers it! :thumbsup2

Even though we're only 4 months (omg!!!) there's still a lot we have to do. So far, we have our location (SBP), a sort of weird combo of ideas for the theme (vintage, romantic, nature-y theme, with emphasis on butterflies), colors (green and gray), and my dress. And that's about it! We have a LOT to do in the next four months, lol. But since we're taking a pretty laid back approach to this whole thing I'm not too stressed (yet!).

Here's my dress which I love, love, love:
FondantTeaDress2.jpg

I'm still working on the accessories.

PS, it took my about 20 minutes to figure out the whole picture posting thing but I finally got it (obviously, lol). Yay!

I love your dress! So unique!!! (and great job on posting the pics-I was so proud when I posted my first!) You and your DF are such a cute couple! can't wait to hear more!!!:cutie:

Wow Kate! First welcome and Im so glad youre here and started a PJ! I loved your list (I lol'd here at the office, which was a dead giveaway for me not working..:rolleyes1) hahha. I love your laidback approach! The dress is gorgeous and you and your DF are a beautiful couple :goodvibes Its really nice to know that you guys made it through your rough patch and came out stronger. My DF and I went through the same thing (before we were engaged) and I think thats part of what made it click for him. Its nice to know were not the only ones! I cant wait to read more about your plans!
