Day 3--Sunday, October 24, 2004
Leah and I decided to head over to Epcot to hit a few rides and do some grazing at the Food & Wine Festival. When we arrived at Epcot, we headed straight to Test Track and grabbed some Fast Passes. I then went on Mission: Space (walked right on through the singles line), while Leah waited on a bench outside for me. We then went to Test Track. The ride seemed a bit sluggish. We stopped for a few minutes at one point, and then the in car audio wasn't working at all.
After Test Track, we headed over to Journey Into Your Imagination (or whatever they are calling it this week). I wish they never changed that ride. It went from good, to super lame, to mildly lame.
We then made our way to start grazing at the Food & Wine Festival. Travelin'Tigger met up with us. We enjoyed the food (none of us had anything to drink though), but it was a very expensive activity--I dropped about $25, and I didn't think I got $25 worth of food. Disney sure makes a killing on this event.
Here is what I ate (including the price), and what I thought of it:
Beef Stroganoff ($3.50)--This dish was good, but nothing spectacular. It was a bit on the bland side, and was mostly noodles--I think I got one piece of beef in it, and for that price, it should have had more beef.
Cheddar Cheese Soup ($2.50)--Yum! One of my favorite things to get at Epcot. Very tasty. I could have eaten five cups of it
Kielbasa and Pierogies with sour cream ($3.50)--Leah and I split this one. It was a bit pricey for one piece of Kielbasa and one Pirogie, but it was very tasty.
Chocolate Creme Brulee ($2.00)--This was one of my favorite items, although I prefer regular creme brulee.
Nagoya Teriyaki Wings ($3.00)--These were just O.K. Nothing spectacular. Not particularly tasty.
Chocolate Bonet ($1.50)--This was incredible. Very delicious, although a bit small. I could have eaten four of them, but only wound up eating one.
Olive Bread Pizza with Pepperoni ($3.00)--Worst item of the event. Nasty. Tasted like Ellio's frozen pizza, and I could have gotten a box of Ellio's for the price of one slice of this. Nasty, nasty, nasty.
Pot Stickers with pork and cabbage ($3.00)--Great. I love pot stickers--always get them when I eat at Nine Dragons.
Watermelon Juice ($2.00)--Disgusting. I could barely swallow more than a couple of sips. You could taste the rind in it. Yuck.
Quesadilla con Pollo y Chorizo - Chorizo and Chicken Quesadilla ($3.50)--This was probably my favorite item other than the cheddar cheese soup. Awesome.
Overall, I enjoyed the event, although I didn't do a second trip around later in the week as I had hoped, as it was a bit too expensive for my taste.
After grazing, Travelin'Tigger and I went on Spaceship Earth while Leah went shopping. I then went to see Off Kilter. It sure was hot that afternoon, and I was sitting right in the sun, but I had a blast watching Off Kilter. They are so much fun to watch, and they always put on a fanstastic show. One of my must sees at Epcot.
I then took the monorail to the Magic Kingdom to meet up with Leah. We were meeting Travelin'Tigger for dinner at the Plaza Restaurant and Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party. We walked over to Frontierland, and took a ride on Splash Mountain. Some things are best experienced when Im around, and Splash Mountain happens to be one of them. I sing. I clap. I dance in my seat. No one has as much fun on Splash Mountain as I do.
After riding Splash, it was off to the Plaza Restaurant for dinner. TravelinTigger and I both got steak and cheese subs with fries, and Leah got a chicken sandwich. My steak and cheese was a bit on the greasy side, but it was still very good. We were very amused by the individual sized bottles of ketchup. They were just too cute.
After dinner, we headed over to Tomorrowland with the rest of the party goers. We had our picture taken, and went on Buzz Lightyear and Space Mountain. We then started Trick or Treating in Toontown. I also began my quest to find Goofy for the evening. We continued Trick or Treating, stopping along the way to ride on Pooh and Peter Pan. We also took the riverboat ride, where we saw a very entertaining storyteller, and the Cadaver Dans performed a few ghoulish numbers for us. After the riverboat ride, we went to the Haunted Mansion.
We then made our way to Frontierland, where we road on Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain, still Trick or Treating along the way. While we were on Splash, we saw part of the parade from the ride. We continued Trick or Treating through Adventureland, and made our way to the hub to watch the fireworks. The fireworks were a bit of a letdown after watching Wishes the night before. They were OK, but nothing that made me ooh and aah.
We had a curbside seat for the late parade. While we waited for the parade, I grabbed the Fun Dip out of my candy bag, and let me say, I enjoyed my first Fun Dip in 20 years as much as I did when I was a little kid!
I made room on the curb for a nine year old boy from New York named Tristan. Tristan and I became fast friends, and it was a lot of fun watching the parade with him. At one point, one of the characters came right over to him and shook his hand, and the smile on his face was one of the highlights of my night. Its fun watching a kid being so awed by a character.
After the parade, we made another round of the park getting more candy. We sure had a lot of fun Trick or Treating! It was really fun to be able to act like a kid again, and we even practiced the fine art of trading the stuff you dont like for something better (give me the banana Laffy Taffy, than you very much).
After our second round around the park, TravelinTigger and I decided to head out of the park to try to beat some of the crowds. Leah decided to head back to Tomorrowland for a ride on the Tomorrowland Transit Authority and some more candy. I made it back to my room just about midnight.
Overall, I enjoyed the Halloween party, but it wasnt as good as the Christmas party. It was fun Trick or Treating, and seeing everyones costumes (I think my favorites that I saw were a couple dressed as Mary Poppins and Bertthe guy was impressed I knew him by name). But, the parade and fireworks were a bit disappointing. We were hoping to see more characters dressed in costumes, but most of them just had plain masks on. The only part of the parade that was truly Halloweenish was the section on the Haunted Mansion, which was very cool. I would go to the Halloween party again if I was there at that time of year, but I wouldnt make a special trip to see it.
