Day 3—Monday, May 9, 2005

Elvis Lives!!!!!!!

Monday morning, much to Lily’s surprise, I woke up bright and early after just four hours of sleep, fresh as a daisy and ready go. We got ready, and headed down to the Boardwalk Bakery for breakfast. I got a cinnamon roll, which was delicious and much too big for me to finish. Lily stuck with her old favorite--the cheese Danish.

After breakfast, we took a bus to the Magic Kingdom, where we wound up spending the entire day. We immediately went down and road on Splash and Thunder Mountains, followed by Pirates of the Caribbean. Lily made a stop to get her favorite Disney snack--the citrus swirl. We then went to see Mickey’s Philharmagic, followed by rides on Space Mountain, Buzz Lightyear, and the Tomorrowland Transit Authority.

While we were riding on Space Mountain, I continued the tradition my niece and I started back in August of 2003--I sang “It’s A Small World.” The guy sitting behind me on the ride was in hysterics because I was singing. He didn’t even get the full affect--normally I’lll sing it on the top of my lungs for the entire line, throwing a “Woo” in at the end of each line. My voice wasn’t doing so well on the trip, so I only sang one chorus.

Hunger struck, so we made our way over to Pecos Bill’s for lunch. I love going to Pecos Bill’s, as I think they have the best condiment bar on Disney property. I normally get a cheeseburger there, but they now had a pulled pork sandwich on the menu, so I decided to get that, and I’m glad I did. It was delicious! The barbecue sauce on it was very tasty, not too spicy.

While we were eating, I started laughing at someone who came into the room where we were eating. Lily looked at me kind of funny, and I was laughing so hard I could barely get out the words, “Elvis isn’t dead. He just walked into the room.” Remember the little argument that Lily and I had at Jellyrolls the night before about whether or not Elvis is dead? Well, once again, Karen is right--Elvis is not dead, and here he was sitting just a few tables away from us! Lily wound up going to the end of the room and taking a picture of the room because no one would believe that we actually saw Elvis!

After lunch, we met up with some of our DIS friends from the Yaya thread. Lily, CrazyBoutDisney, and I waited in line for 25 minutes to ride It’s a Small World. I thought they did an excellent job on the rehab. Everything was just so vibrant and colorful! We all really enjoyed it. Everyone sing together now:

It’s a small world after all
It’s a small world after all
It’s a small world after all
It’s a small, small world

We then met up with Helenabear and FLRose again, and headed over to Tomorrowland, where we road on Buzz Lightyear and the Tomorrowland Transit Authority. We squeezed the five of us into one compartment. I reminded everyone to make sure they took their own legs when we got off the ride.

We all walked over to Mickey’s Toontown. We decided to hop on the train. One was just pulling away when we got to the gate. They guy who had sat behind me on Space Mountain was sitting on the train, so I started singing, “It’s A Small World” again. When our train arrived, we hopped on it and road over to Main Street.

I spotted Goofy nearby with a very short line, so Lily, FLRose, CrazyBoutDisney, and I went over to have our picture taken with him. After having our picture taken with Goofy, they told us to go on inside to meet more characters. We also got pictures with Pluto, Chip & Dale, Minnie, and Mickey! It was very cool to get to meet so many characters in just a few minutes!

Lily and I said goodbye to our Yaya friends, and wandered around Main Street. We were expecting our DIS friend Kaycee to arrive shortly, so we figured we’d wait around for her. We stopped in the camera shop on Main Street so I could print up some pictures for the Jellyrolls guys, including the picture of Elvis that Lily had taken earlier in the day.

When Kaycee arrived, I had just told Lily that Kaycee had long red hair, but Kaycee had cut her hair. No matter, though! I was thrilled to finally meet Kaycee! Her real name is Karen, so we were calling this trip “Karen Invasion 2005.” We often say that great Karen’s think alike, as we both often come up with the same ideas for what do do at Walt Disney World.

After introductions and hugs, we walked down to Tomorrowland, where we road on Tomorrowland Transit Authority, and grabbed fast passes for Space Mountain. We then went over to the Plaza Restaurant for dinner. I got a steak and cheese sandwich, Kaycee got a vegetarian wrap, and if memory serves me correctly, Lily got a turkey sandwich. We all enjoyed our meals, and thought that the portions were good for the cost.

After dinner, Lily left us for a while. Kaycee and I went on Space Mountain, where I continued my tradition of singing “It’s A Small World.” We also went over and went on It’s A Small World (where, or course, we sang along).

Kaycee and I may have done one or two other things before leaving the Magic Kingdom, but I’m not 100% sure. It’s all a blur now. Our original plan was to stay at the Magic Kingdom until closing, and head over Jellyrolls late. But, I changed those plans because my beloved Scotty and Ray were playing together that night, and it would be the only time I’d get to see them play together during the trip. I wanted to be there early so we could get a good table down front.

When we arrived just a few minutes after 8:00, we were the first people in the bar. Jason and Pete were already playing. I was really looking forward to seeing Pete, as he had started shortly after my last trip to Jellyrolls. I had heard lots of good things about him, and wanted to check him out for myself. And he didn’t disappoint. After listening to Pete for just a few minutes, Kaycee and I agreed that he was fantastic, and a good addition to the group at Jellyrolls.

Before anyone else came into the bar, Pete and Jason spent a few minutes chatting with us. They were amused that we were Karen and Karen. Pete asked us where we were from, and we later tested him to see if he would remember. Lily and Snowwark would join us later in the evening.

Finally three guys came into the bar and took the table two down from us. One of the guys was already pretty drunk by the time he got there, and he spent the evening calling us Car-in and Car-in. He was pretty obnoxious, making eyes at us , and unbuttoning his shirt to show us his chest. I’ll have more about him later.

After Pete and Jason finished there set, the best part of my trip began when Scotty and Ray took the stage. Nothing makes me happier at Walt Disney World than parking my butt on a bar stool and watching Scotty and Ray perform. They just work so well together, and they really seem to feed off each other. I affectionately refer to them as my pianomen. I, of course, dropped a lot of money on Scotty’s piano to hear him sing some of my favorite songs.

Shortly after Ray took the stage, I wrote a request on the back of the picture of Elvis. I requested “Jailhouse Rock,” and wrote, “See, Elvis isn’t dead. We saw him today at the Magic Kingdom.” Ray and Scotty teased me a bit about writing my request on a picture, and then Scotty asked me if I would be giving him a request on a picture as well. Ray also made a comment about how in this day and age he can’t believe someone would grow sideburns and walk around like Elvis. Ray commented on the kids Elvis had with him, too. He did sing “Jailhouse Rock” for us, and in the middle of the song, Scotty picked up the photo, and danced with it in front of his face.

We had a second drunk guy sit down at the table next to us. He was with is employee, who was mighty embarrassed by the guy and snuck out when he was away from the table. He had a stuffed animal with him, and he sat it on the table with a bear. Kaycee got pretty intimate with the stuffed animal at one point. This drunk guy was soooooo looking for someone to leave the bar with. We thought he was going to wind up with one woman, but she must have figured him out, and he moved on to someone else.

At one point in the evening, I met Scotty in the back hallway near the restrooms to give him some pictures from my December trip, and a couple I had printed out from the night before. While Scotty and I were looking at the pictures and chatting, the original drunk guy walked over to me, and said, “Car-in, Car-in, I hope I wasn’t bothering you.” The guy was about two inches from my face as he spoke to me--way past my comfort zone. I glanced at Scotty, and he glanced at me. Scotty took a protective step closer to me. The guy continued to ramble, and I just kind of blew him off and said, “It’s all good.” Scotty stayed right by my side until the drunk was far away from me.

So, yes, my weirdo magnet is still working strong! (See my May, 2004 trip report for the other time I had to be saved from a drunk creep by Scotty).

Most of the evening, Scotty had been ignoring a request someone put up for the theme song to "The Golden Girls." one of the other piano players had mentioned that Scotty knew it. He was definitely trying to avoid it, and I told him that I wanted to hear him sing it. He asked me if I had requested it, and I told him no, and asked him to play it. So he did. At the end of the song, he said, "And thank you for being my friend."

Kaycee and I closed the bar down at 2:00 a.m. We said a quick goodbye to Scotty, and headed back to our resorts.

He does LIVE!! :cool1: Saw him at the Pop Century last week!! Elvis sunglasses and all!! Gotta remember to protect those Elvis eyes from the Florida sun

Sounds like you had a fun filled day.

Welcome to the DIS, Tootie!

Elvis was staying at Pop Century? Cool!

Karen

Sounds like another fun day Karen.
I'm glad your friends at Jelly Rolls are looking out for you. I've heard of some guys having a "Chick Magnet" appeal but what's with the weirdos that you and I seem to attract.
Looking forward to reading about more of your fun at the world! :wave2:

Kaycee and I may have done one or two other things before leaving the Magic Kingdom, but I’m not 100% sure. It’s all a blur now.

That's right, dear.... never confess to *anything* - always pull the old "I can't remember" routine!

So - Car-in, just what were you drinking???

I only had one drink that night. A Jack and diet coke.

Leave it to Pam to pick out that quote from my trip report.

We really did have fun that night at Jellyrolls in spite of the weird drunk guys. It was worth putting up with them to enjoy the good company we had at our table and to get to hear the guys playing that night.

Last time we were on Splash Mtn. Karen sang the WHOLE ride - over and over and over again!!! And that isn't any 2 second ride, if you know what I mean!!!! :rolleyes1
