Day 5—Monday, May 3, 2004

I slept in this morning. I set the alarm for 7:15. Nothing like getting up after four and a half hours of sleep ;) I had a quick breakfast of cereal in my room, and was off to Epcot for my Segway tour. The sky was pretty cloudy, and it didn’t look good for the tour. I checked in at guest services, and I was told that if it rained, we would only be able to do the indoor portion of the tour, and we would be refunded half our money.

Once the entire group had arrived at Guest Services, we walked to Innoventions to start the tour. We were all given helmets, and watched a short video that pretty much just included the warnings for the tour. Our guide Otto gave us some basic information on the Segway, including information on the control panel, and showed us how to start it up.

Within fifteen minutes, we were given the opportunity to stand on the Segway. I had a little problem with mine at first because I couldn’t keep the platform level, so I had it come back on me and back me into a wall. We were instructed on how to move and turn our Segways. We had to drive it back and forth from the wall to the cone about 15 feet away. I had to jump off my Segway at one point because the guy in the lane next to me was going to fast and lost control of his Segway. We then had to run our Segways in and around cones. We did this course about three times.

We were then told that there was a rainstorm nearby, and we would not be able to go outside today. We rode around in circles for about a half hour, and everyone stopped to have pictures taken on their Segways.

When the tour ended, we all reached in our saddle bags and discovered that there was a pin for the tour. It had the tour log with a little guy on a Segway that could slide across. It’s a pretty cool pin!

After the tour, we all went over to Guest Relations so that they could process our refunds. After saying goodbye to our guides, I grabbed a Fast Pass for Test Track, and got in the single riders line for Mission:Space. What was posted as a 10 minute wait, soon became 40 minutes. It was a very long 40 minutes because I was stuck smack dab in the middle of two a small group of teenage boys (they weren’t too bad), and a larger group of unsupervised junior high age students (they were horrible). They kept on banging into me with their bags, their elbows, their feet, what ever they had nearby. They were yelling at the cast members at the front for taking the guests who were in the standby and fast pass lines, but not taking them. They just didn’t quite grasp the single riders line concept, and were ticked off when their group was split up.

After riding Mission: Space, I had to pass on my fast pass for Test Track due to the rain and my priority seating for lunch at Le Cellier. I made my way through the rain to Le Cellier, and was seated at a table within 15 minutes. I had some cheddar cheese soup, which is one of my favorites. I love dunking my breadsticks into the soup. I had a Vancouver chicken sandwich for lunch, and it was pretty good. It was served on an English muffin, which was a bit dry, so I only ate the chicken. I decided to pass on dessert (even though I love the chocolate moose there), as I was planning on a big dinner at the Kona Café that night.

After lunch, I went back to the hotel so that I could shower and get ready for my big night for the last night of my trip. I really needed to wash my hair, as I was having a severe case of helmet head after the Segway tour. I also did some packing, as I would be leaving the next day.

Once I was ready to go, I headed over to the Magic Kingdom to pick up a few more souvenirs. I got some earrings for one of my nieces, and pins for the rest of my nieces and nephews. I also bought myself a cool polo shirt (which I kind of needed because I had spilled something on my shirt earlier in the day. Oops).

I then took the monorail over to the Polynesian for dinner at the Kona Café. I started off with sticky wings, which were absolutely delicious. They just have so much flavor. They are a bit messy, but most of the best foods are messy :) For my main course, I had beef teriyaki with mashed potatoes. The steak was a bit tough, but the mashed potatoes were amazing. Since this was my last big meal of the trip, I decided to splurge and get dessert as well. I got the banana crème brulee. It was pretty good, but I prefer regular crème brulee.

After dinner, I took a swing back to the Magic Kingdom and road on Splash Mountain and the Tomorrowland Transit Authority. I then took a bus to the Swan, and walked over to Jellyrolls for the last time during my trip.
As soon as I walked into the front door of Jellyrolls, the bouncer told the guy collecting the money to let me right in, as Scotty had put me on the guest list for the evening. The bouncer escorted me to the bar, and I was the first person to arrive. Much to my disappointment, Drew was in for Tommy that night, so what was supposed to be a one Drew night turned into a three Drew night. I was not happy (although I was able to tolerate Drew a little more that night).

Jason and Drew were already sitting at their pianos when I arrived, and they started talking to me from the stage. Jason asked me if I had ever been to Jellyrolls before, and I told him, “Three of the last four nights.” Drew remembered me, and pointed out the tables I had been sitting in the nights he was playing. They also were trying to get me to request songs. I told them that I wasn’t allowed to request songs (One_Cat and I had decided that I shouldn’t request songs anymore because the piano players made fun of two of my three requests on Friday night). Jason said, “But your friends aren’t here tonight.” I said, “It will get back to them.” The night before, I had left a note on Scotty’s piano with a twenty telling him it was his choice for a song because I wasn’t allowed to make requests. Jason had seen that request and asked if that had been me. I told him it was, and he said it confused him. Jason and Drew continued to ask me what I wanted to hear, and I told them I was just happy to be there. I then walked up, threw a five on Jason’s piano and said, “That’s what I do. I give you money without requesting songs.” Jason was like, “Now you have to request something.” I still didn’t request a song, so they finally settled on some Beatles tunes. Mid-way through the second song, some other people showed up in the bar.

I really had a great time at Jellyrolls that night. I met a really nice couple who live in the area, and had fun singing with them all night long. They even loaned me an empty beer bottle to swing during songs ;) It was a pretty crazy night at Jellyrolls. There were a couple of groups, and they were just singing and acting like idiots all night.

Late in the evening, some guy walked over to me and tried to get me to shots with him and his friends. He was trying to force a shot glass in my hand, but I refused. He then asked me if I was a school teacher for some bizarre reason. At least he wasn’t creepy like that guy from the night before.

At the end of the night, Scotty and Ray were wrapping things up for the evening. They played “Piano Man” for their last song. I just stood in the back of the bar by myself enjoying my two favorite piano men singing the song. I just stood there and listened, and soaked everything in. I actually got a little misty eyed at one point—yes, Karen can turn a bit sappy sometimes when she really loves something.

At the end of the evening, I waited to say goodbye to Scotty, and thanked him for everything. I told him I was very appreciative of him for walking me out of the bar the night before, and he told me he was glad I made it back to my hotel safely and came to see them again. I told Scotty I would be back again in October and December, and he reminded me to let him know when I would be coming back when it got closer.

I slowly made my way out of Jellyrolls, and walked slowly along the Boardwalk to the front to catch a cab back to the Port Orleans.
