Kali River Rapids "incident" today

I would ask, why don't you see this kind of minor thing reported when its in the other parks in the area, Diagon Alley is known to break down often!.....yet nothing.............the answer is its the Disney name and a desire on the part of the local media to feed off it.

It could be due to the brain-eating amoeba. Maybe they didn't want the guests to touch the water and get infected.

That's why they won't let you swim in Bay Lake or 7 Seas Lagoon. It's not the alligators that are dangerous, it's the brain eating amoeba.
That amoeba only lives in freshwater. I would assume the water in KRR is treated.

I've seen many such articles over the years. Not just about WDW either. It's always funny that when a major park has to evacuate a ride it gets national attention. I've seen it when roller coasters are evacuated. I worked at Busch Gardens Williamsburg, VA for 4 years. I can tell you that roller coasters get evacuated far more often than you know. I've rarely seen it be a danger issue. Usually it's something where a kid wasn't paying attention and hit the E-Stop (emergency stop) button by mistake. That does a complete ride shut down. SOPs usually dictate that after an Estop is performed you must evacuate the ride and then run it through at least 2 cycles before you allow guests on the ride again. That makes national news all the time without them reporting what happens.

This obviously was a different situation, but I don't think it needed all the news it got.

Universal's breakdowns get reported. Especially when it is something like Rip Ride Rockit :scared:

All take your word for it, but I have never seen it a minor thing like this reported..........big things yes.

The best one I saw was a traffic accident last year a mile off WDW property, no WDW vehicles involved, yet the Sentinel article title had *Disney * right at the top and it wasn't until near the end of the article that it was noted it was a mile from Disney property.

I wonder why it needed to be drained.

OK re read and it sounds like they are draining the river which just means they are turning off the pumps which they do every night not completely draining the ride. If they drained the entire ride it would take probably an day or two to re fill the 10s of thousands, 100's of thousands (?) of gallons of water.

Universal had a couple of incidents reported- this happens at every theme park at one time or another. Of course the media tags the Disney name, but that's just the way it is. No harm, no foul on this one.

Well, I guess if you have to get stuck on a ride, this isn't a bad one. The woman on the left side of the photo (wearing sunglasses with her arms raised) looks resigned and little bored. I can think of much worse ones! Saw some photos of people being walked down the very steep incline on EE - that would be awful for me because of my fear of heights!

Or being stuck on Small World and getting that song stuck in your head - now that would be terrible! :)

I'd rather be stuck on ANY indoor ride (Except maybe Mission Space. Talk about claustrophobia. But that seems unlikely) than an outdoor ride in the sun for a significant amount of time. If it was in the shade then it might be fun, but it looks like they are in the sun and the woman is trying to shield herself from the sun.

Just this past March, Hulk at IOA at an E-Stop where 3 rows of riders had to be evacuated with the assistance of OFD because because the first 3 rows were beyond the walkway for exit. Local news teams send their copters to get a birdseye view of the evacuation.

The key to something making the news is if the Fire Department needs to be called or not. If it's happened totally by park employees it's not going to make the news. If there's a call to the fire departments, the news crews monitor the radio channels and will investigate.
