We're going the first week of May. Should we ride Kali in the morn and try to dry off the rest of the day, or should we ride it last before we leave the park?

We rode it last and I'm glad because we got absolutely SOAKED! I couldn't wait to get back to the hotel to change. Plus, by riding the Safari first thing, the lines were shorter and the animals seemed a lot more active in the morning.
Definitely last. Last time we went, I got dripping, soaking wet-wetter than I thought possible on any ride. Fortunately, we like to just walk around and enjoy the scenery-it took me almost two hours in the sun to dry off.
I pretty much (unless its very hot) refuse to ride on this ride. I just don't enjoy being wet all day. I'd say end of the day unless its cold. If its really hot, then it might be a welcome.
I've seen it happen, but never experienced it personally. Whether I take the big drop backwards or forwards, it always seems to completely soak me. Although somehow I did keep my shoes dry the last time. My DS7 is the big winner, however, as the last three times he's been on it a wave has literally washed completely over his head.
It's definitely a last ride of the day for us. We did it midday in the peak of the summer heat and even then it was not pleasant. We nearly froze to death at Festival of the Lion King, in fact.
McKelly, It is possible to not get wet. A funny thing happened on one of our trips with a bunch of family members in 2002. we got into a raft and picked our seats and there were two random seats left and a couple we didn't know were sent to ride with us. My niece unstrapped herself and changed seats so the couple could sit together. Well needless to say she regretted that all day long. she was totally drenched from head to toe and the woman who she gave up her seat to got off the ride bone dry. We laughed all day and still chuckle about it from time to time!
We rode it first and I was actually the one who went down the big drop backwards and got the most wet. I had on shorts and a tank top, and I was dry within an hour. I put my feet up on the bar on the center island and my shoes and socks really didn't get that wet. As for underwear, well, let's just say the kind I wear wouldn't have gotten that wet- nuff said The BF didn't get that wet at all, so he was fine too. It's amazing how I got soaked and my BF, who was RIGHT next to me, was totally dry. The reason we chose to ride first rather than last was because we had a PS for RFC right after we left the park and I knew I didn't want to sit in the COLD AC soaking wet. It worked out well for us to go first.
1. Don't wear white.
2. Wear some sort of light fabric, the thicker the material the longer it takes to dry.
3. If you wear denim shorts/pants if will take a few hours to dry.
I wore denim shorts and I was soaked for hours. I kept sitting on warm rocks in the sun hoping it would dry them out faster. My mom who was wearing cloth shorts was dry in about half an hour. I was a little jealous.
At first I thought everyone was crazy about being wet all day but the thing is there is so much humidity in FL that you really DON"T dry all that fast and you are wet for a long time even on a hot day.
I rode it twice last week. I got wet the first time and totally soaked the second. We did it last so it was back to the hotel to change!!
Or you can wrap yourself in a poncho and stay almost completely dry. Just tuck everything in real well and hunch over! We go in the off season and it gets cool. I don't mind wet head but wet undies - ick.
Another poncho wimp here - I've only gone on this ride in the winter months and every time at least one or two people in the raft get absolutely SOAKED !!! One time it was a little, foreign grandma and she was dressed so nice - in a pantsuit and good shoes - one wave came literally over her head as Jestocost said !! They were curious about our ponchos when we got on, we were happy we had them on - the ride was still plenty of fun. We also pulled our sneakers and socks off and put them in the middle under the plastic cover ! Great ride - a bit too much water !
Yes.
A few years ago we convinced my mom (70s) to go on with us (me, DH, 2 DDs, neice and my mom).
We didn't take any precautions to prevent getting wet because we were leaving after the ride.
My mom was in the "soaking seat" and got totally, totally soaked. What was the funniest was that she had on patterned underwear, which didn't show when her pants were dry. But, once they got wet, everyone could see she had flowered underwear.
The rest of us were pretty much dry, even our shoes. As long as you keep them up on the bar, (and are not in the "soaking seats"), your shoes don't get too wet. My youngest DD can't keep her feet on the bar because of her disabilities, so her feet usually do get wet.
The one part that will usually get wet, no matter what, is your seat since the boat seats usually have water on them when you sit down.
