Oh my goodness, my head is still spinning at the thought that we are going to go see Mickey in just 71 days! :woohoo: The next time we were supposed to be seeing Mickey is September 2014. This trip came as a total suprise :)

How it came to be that we are going to Disneyland.

Justin, my 17 year old son, is a member of his schools FBLA (future business leaders of america) club. This year he qualified to go to the national convention held in Anaheim :cheer2: He is beyond excited to go, and I am so proud of him for making it! Justin has Asperger's syndrome, ADHD, and Tourettes - so while making it to nationals itself is huge, this is extremely impressive.

We just found out Thursday that he made it and I have been frantically trying to figure out how we are coming up with all the money. I usually plan my vacations at least a year out so I have plenty of time to save for them.

Here is what I know so far:
When: The convention is June 27-30, but we are going to fly down the 25th and then he will fly to his dads for the summer either the 2nd or 3rd of July.

Where are we staying: So far the plan is June 25-27 at Super 8 on Katella, Justin will be staying at the Hilton by the convention center June 27-July1 (I am hoping to stay with him there, we won't find out for a few weeks if I can), July 1-2 or 3 back at the Super 8. If I can't stay in the room with Justin (it depends on how many kids end up going from the district) then I will probably just stay at the Super 8.

I will add pictures in the next couple of days. Right now I am posting from work and don't have access to any. Yep, that's right, I'm working hard. Or was that hardly working. It's slow here today. No surgery cases for me :(

Here are some pictures of us. In looking through my pictures I realized that I am not in very many of them :( We will be doing photopass at the parks so I will get to be in the pictures :goodvibes

This is Justin. He is the reason we are getting to go to Disney this year. In addition to FBLA he is also in 4H. He doesn't like sports, loves his computer, likes to camp, and is my travel buddy. I don't know what I'm going to do when he goes off to college. His favorite disneyland ride is Tower of Terror.

I don't really have any pictures of just me. I am an x-ray tech and work for a Vascular surgery clinic part time. I love being in the OR! I also started with Origami Owl (direct sales company) last year and have a blast with it. I LOVE to camp and travel. I am a neurotic list maker, and get very excited during back to school time when the spiral notebooks are on sale for 10 cents! It's the little things in life :p I also love to do 5k's. I have done a few 10k's and a 1/2 marathon, but 5k's are my favorite. They tend to be the fun ones. Here is a picture from Mother's Day last year. Justin and I did The Color Run. I highly recommend doing it if it comes to your city. You don't need to be a runner to do this one, it's not for time, just for fun :goodvibes We started the race in white shirts.

This is from our 2005 trip to Disneyland

I am hoping these pictures don't come out huge. If they do I will try to fix them later this evening. We are on our way to go pick up a new guinea pig for his 4H project :moped:

I purchased our tickets for the way down to Anaheim today. We will be flying Southwest leaving at 6:45 am and arriving SNA at 11:10. Not too bad of a price on the tickets either. $108 each. I know I may have been able to find them a little cheaper with another airline closer to the trip, but once you figure in the cost of bags (we don't do the whole carry on you luggage thing) it would have been just as much if not more. I like to take everything, including the kitchen sink with me. I was a girl scout, my leader taught me to be prepared :lmao: It kind of goes hand in hand with my list making.

We still have to book our return flights, well return for me. Justin will be flying to his dads house from anaheim. I am still waiting to hear what day his dad is flying him there so I can book my return flight. I hope he lets me know soon because I found a few cheap flights back and I don't want to miss out on one of them. Or we could just not book return flights and see if Mickey and Minnie will let us live with them......

Congrats to your son for qualifying for Nationals!! Our DS (17) also qualified and we will be making the long journey from the east coast! We've attended the NLC the last two years (Orlando, San Antonio) and it is an excellent convention/event! Best of luck to him on his competition!!

Thank you! Congrats to your son as well! We are so excited to go. Justin has been sending out fundraising letters (the school will pay some, but not all the cost. and we don't know yet how much they will cover). So far he has presented in front of the kiwanis club, and done an interview with our local newspaper.

Justin looks adorable!!

Thank you!

I love the pictures!! I have autism and I'm almost 18.

"]Having autism makes life interesting, doesn't it. There is never a dull moment in our house! Sometimes I feel a little bit like I am living with Sheldon from Big Bang Theory. Justin is so smart when it comes to school and computers, but he still has trouble with social skills.

Flights - are officially booked!! We will be flying down the 25th arriving at 11:10 (which means I get to drive to the airport at 3:30am :crazy2: ). Justin will be flying to his dads for a month on July 2nd and I will be flying home on July 3rd. Justin's flight on the 2nd doesn't leave until 6pm which left little choices for a flight home for me. Plus this give us a little extra room in case something happens to delay his flight.

Hotel - The conference ends June 30th, there is a tour he can go to on July 1st but we are planning on going on the one he is interested in on June 26th. I just made our hotel reservation for July 1-3 at the Hilton (that is where we are staying for the conference). They have a great rate ($127/night/aaa rate) for those two days and I am hoping we can stay in our same room.

I should probably go back to work, but being on the DIS is so much more fun!

36 days until we leave!!

FINALLY found some more khaki dress pants for Justin. He may be 17, but he is so skinny we have to find pants for him in the boys section. I swear they either don't make a lot of size 14 boys pants, or there are a lot of kids in our area that wear that size because they are hard to come by. So I think dress clothes wise he is set :cool1:

I took Justin to a Yu-gi-oh card competition thing (I have no idea what it was, I'm just the driver :rotfl: ) in Seattle a couple weeks ago and while the boys were playing their card game I snuck off and went to the Disney Store :cheer2: we don't have one in our town anymore :sad1: *I love these little smiley face guys!* While I was there I got us each 2 shirts and a beach towel for each of us. They also had a special that if you spent $25 you could get the insulated tote for $10, so I got one of those too :goodvibes

I was checking out parking prices for the car while we are gone and found that for $10 more we can stay at a hotel near the airport and park the car there for the duration of the trip. I like to arrive where we are flying to early, which means a 6:45 am flight out of Seatac :crazy2: So the plan is for Justin to come to work with me on Monday the 24th and from there we will go to the hotel (we live 1 1/2 hours from the airport, hence why the hotel option was so appealing to me). Then up at 4am to catch the 5am shuttle to the airport. Checking bags and going through security should be a breeze at that time of the morning. I know it won't take that long to get through, but I have to allow extra time for Justin. If he feels rushed going through security, lets just say it's not a pretty site. We should land about 11am in anaheim and then I think we are going to take the super shuttle to the hotel. Looks like that is the least expensive way to get there. I am a huge fan of public transportation and I don't like renting cars on vacation if I can help it.

Still trying to decide if we are going to go to DL on the 26th or go on the LA city tour that the FBLA conference is offering. We want to see LA, but we want to visit DL too. Decisions, decisions.....

We originally weren't going to make any dining reservations and just stick with counter service meals. But today I booked us at Blue Bayou :cheer2: We are so excited to get to eat there! I think we are probably just going to do dessert there, but we'll see.

Still going over menu's for the counter service restaurants to see where we might like to eat :scratchin And I have already started packing up our snack suitcase - which will turn into our souvenir suitcase on the return flight. So far we have pb&j, cup of soup, oatmeal packets, cereal, and drink mix. Justin is ALWAYS hungry so I try to make sure we bring things that are easy to make up in the hotel room for late night snacks. There is a mini mart not too far from the hotel. I think we are going to go there for some water, bread, milk and more snacks. Ahhh yes, Justin just informed me we will need chips :thumbsup2

three weeks left until we leave :yay:

A little funny disney math.

Our first day in Disneyland is June 26 (11 days)
We get to anaheim on June 25 (10 days)
BUT we are staying the night before in a hotel close to the airport because I am not a fan of driving for an hour an a half at 3am. So.........vacation starts in 9 days!!!

We are at 10 days now! :thumbsup2

I'm so excited :cool1:

Justin got a wonderful gift from his grandma (my mom)..........a gift certificate for the two of us to have dinner at Ruth's Chris! We love that place! He is so excited to get to go while we are in ahaheim :goodvibes

We are also going to go to Medieval Times Friday with the FBLA conference.

I think the only other reservation we are going to do is the one for dessert at Blue Bayou. We want to experience eating there, but didn't really want to eat a full meal there.

I still need to finalize the packing list and buy a few more snacks for the snack suitcase. And then there is the mountain of laundry calling my name. I hate folding laundry! :laundy: I wish I had magical elves that lived with us and would come in and do all the ironing, folding, oh and dusting every night while we slept.

3 more work days until we leave!!

:jumping1: we leave in the morning!!!! Technically we have already left the house. I brought Justin to work with me today and from here we are going to the hotel by the airport.

Can't wait to get to sunny California. Seattle is a little dreary today.
