Hi - we've not been off the WDW property since like 1996! Can anybody tell me if there's a beer / wine / liquor store really, really close to WDW that might possibly even deliver a couple of cases of beer (one for us & one for our friends)? We don't usually rent a car so we're always held captive onsite with those $12 / 6 pack prices! Next summer, we're going from WDW to cruise on the Wonder & were thinking about either hiring a car service or renting a car one-way so we could stop - but I just found out that they won't sell the stuff until Noon on Sundays - and we're hoping to be at the port by 10:30 so that shoots that plan!

DCL will let us bring it onboard if I can figure out how to GET it!:lmao:
Thanks,
Annie

I think one of the grocery delivery services can do that for you.(Garden Grocer maybe?) However, since it is alcohol, you must be present in your room for the delivery which will tie up a good portion of a day.

How about the gas station with mini mart across the street from BWV? Or you could take a cab to one - I know there is one a bit up the road from Goodings in a strip mall.

Garden Grocer does deliver alcohol, but you must have a $40 minimum food order. They are very good at delivering within the time frame you select.

All the Hess stations on Disney sell beer.:thumbsup2
Just not sure about the Sunday at noon restriction.

Have a great trip!

Thanks! Garden Grocer huh? I take it they have a website I should look for. Since we've only ever used the Disney buses I am totally lost about this process (I guess I don't get out much - I don't even know the first thing about taking a cab...). If we don't have a car how do we get to the Hess stations? I am not picturing the Disney buses making a pit stop for us!:lmao: We will be staying at AKV in July...is there one of these gas stations within walking distance of there? I heard that there is a Budget car rental place in DTD (but I couldn't find it on the Budget car rental website when I looked for it)! Anybody know how I find that beforehand? I'm thinkin' maybe we need to rent a car to buy beer!:rotfl: We will only have about 2 1/2 days at WDW before we leave for the port so I want to figure this out with the least demands on our time!

Yes, they have a website. It is http://www.gardengrocer.com/

Now, if you are going to order alcohol, you will not see that on their product list. So, what you do is put your request in the comment section of your order form. They will call you to verify your ID. We used them in April and they were FANTASTIC!

I do not remember if there is a Hess station near AKV. That resort is kind of out there all by itself. There is a Hess near DTD and of course, across the street from the Boardwalk.

If all you are wanting is beer, it may just be easier for you to have Bell Services call you a cab and then make a quick run over to the store. It should be cheaper than getting rental for a beer run!:rotfl2:

Good luck!

Pick up the car the afternoon or night before. The rental period is a minmum of 24 hours anyways.

Or use the shopping delivery services mentioned above.

Have Fun!!!!

Ding, Ding, Ding! That's probably what we'll end up having to do! Good point about the 24 hour thing! I need to find that Budget car place in DTD.... Anybody know how I can reach them specifically?!

If you can't find it there is a Dollar one at the Grosvenor(now may be a different name) right across from DTD bus stop. They had the best one day prices last year in Sept and Dec when we rented to return to the airport. They do have limited hours so you need to watch out for that. The budget rental is probably in one of the hotels on hotel plaza blvd.

Just looked it up - the Doubletree Hotel on hotel plaza blvd. Says they have free pickup service as well.

Another note, in Fla they sell alcohol/beer in pretty much all the grocery stores, etc. So no need to hunt out a specific liquor store. I did that one day and prices were more expensive then just at the Winn Dixie on 536.

:rotfl2: Thanks guys - now I need a FL roadmap! It's funny how when you only ever ride the Disney buses how you have no clue how to get from point A to point B and what you pass inbetween!:) It just happens! I never knew there were any gas stations inside WDW!

I know DH can kill a case of beer on a week long cruise and I figure taking a case onboard with us would probably save about $85 (say we find a Miller Lite cube (30 pack) for roughly $20 - that beats $3.50 or so each on the ship + tip)! And plus we know somebody else who would like a case as well and I could always pick up a beverage or two for myself... As long as we wouldn't have to waste a bunch of time venturing off property it would probably be worth it I think to make a beer run...

If you are stressed about the driving and finding your way around, I would really consider Garden Grocer or WeGoShop. We have ordered alcohol from GG on our last 2 trips with no issue at all. We did not have to be present for delivery...they left it at the front desk and it was waiting for us when we checked in.

As other said, you have to type in your order on the "special comments" box on GG website. This is really MUCH less hassle than renting a car (unless you plan to use the car for other items).

I'm glad to hear we wouldn't have to be there to receive it! THAT is exactly the plan I needed! THANK YOU!

If you post your dates I bet there will be someone here that will be there at the same time with a car that would be happy to pick up a few things for you. I've done that several times for other members on trips as we always have a car.

So, you are allowed to take a case of beer on board a Disney cruise? My dh like his beer, but we sure don't like the price per beer cost on board.

Others have reported here on the DIS of having to be present with ID to have alcohol delivered. I would definitely check that out further with the grocery service you choose if I were you before ordering.

Here is one of the threads stating that you must be present to receive the alcohol. There is also a minimum purchase of groceries required besides the alcohol.

I believe you can fax a copy of your drivers license to garden grocer.

I think a guy could make ALOT of money doing this full time. I would love to be the Disney BEER MAN!! Anyone want to finance me????
Only guy more popular than Mickey!!!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Sure - I can give you the $85 we save from not having to buy all of DH's beer on the ship! Will that be enough!?:lmao:

I want to vacation with you!!! Your like us. LOL Yes, we brought a couple of cases of Miller Lite with us on our DC. But we drove ourselves to the cruise - instead of the bus. Cheaper for us. One way rental. I can't remember the company. About 10 minutes from the terminal - drove us to the cruise terminal.

We also used Garden Grocer one trip. Ordered groceries and Miller Lite - forget the 30 pack in FL. No such thing. We looked. The old case 24 is the most you will find.

There are national rental cars at the Swan and Dolphin too.
