Just watched the opening of WDW on YouTube...

So, being immobile and out of shape from inactivity, I've been watching a lot of YouTube videos on my Roku (not being logged in is great, because they give you suggestions based on an algorithm of previous videos watched). So, last night and today, I finished watching the opening of WDW (Magic Kingdom) w/Julie Andrews, Glen Campbell, Jonathan Winters, and Bob Hope.

Seeing all of the old lands (and Mickey Mouse Revue), I noticed how much space there was. I mean, really a lot of space has been filled up by shops, unnecessary buildings (and Magic Carpet spinners), that adds an overall claustrophobic vibe and noise that the park generates when/where it once did not. I vaguely remember Fantasyland having a lot of more space around '83-'89 and areas like the Tomorrowland dance party can take me back to that feeling of space when it is inactive.

A lot has been added since my first trip and a lot has been taken away. Just watching the resort TV loops (another YouTube channel) makes me realize that WDW is really (for lack of a better analogy) just a ship whose new captains take command and steer her into the future, however and by whatever means... whether we like it or not.

Hope the recovery is coming along surely, Mike, although not as quickly as you would like. Still sending pixie dust pixiedust: and healing light your way!!

It does have the feeling that certain buildings were either just thrown in wherever there was open space, or by some twisted design to push park goers in a certain direction. The magic carpet ride is a great example, or the carnival games shoved in Dinoland at AK.
