Hello everyone! Forgive me if this is a repeated topic, but I wanted to share an experience we had last week while traveling to WDW with my dad, who used an ECV.

We rented from an off-site company called Scooter Orlando. The model I chose is called the Dream and has a fun design with handlebars that look like a motorcycle!

After a few minutes of acclimating himself, my dad was easily able to manuever it with no problem. This is the model they advertise as the "on-property" model and when I called prior to our arrival I was assured it would fit on all Disney transportation. While this was *technically* true, we weren't thrilled.

I chose this model for my dad because it had a cool design and looked really comfy. Seeing him struggle really hard to use it on the boat (large one) from the Wilderness Lodge to MK broke my heart.

In my opinion, The Dream is not the best suited for the parks and transportation system. It's very heavy and a very very tight squeeze on buses and the boat. By the end of the first full day I was on the phone with the company asking if they could replace it with something smaller. Thankfully their customer service was excellent and they did just that the very next morning with no issue. From that point on, my dad had a much easier time.

I wanted to post this just as an FYI to anyone thinking about renting this model. It's so nice, but just a tad too big, unfortunately. Who needs to struggle when they're on vacation to have a fun, light-hearted time? We even had an older gentleman CM get frustrated with my dad after his incident on the boat and say, quite indiscretely to two other CMs "Jeez, learn how to drive the scooter!" Thankfully my mom was right there, unbeknownst to them and gave them a little talking too. She just said something like, "That's my husband and he's doing his best. You better no say anything else." :sad2: On our return trip that night back to the Wilderness Lodge we had this amazing younger gentleman coaching him, encouraging him and reassuring him, "Take your time sir. We're in no hurry at all. Just take your time." I thanked him and wanted to hug him. I wish I had both CMs names so I could report my experiences directly to Disney.

Despite that one little incident, we had an amazing time on our trip and dad keeps asking when we'll go back. I can't wait until we get another chance! This was his first time back since 1973 and my mom's first time back since 1988. They had a ball!!

To everyone planning trips, have a wonderful time! To everyone dreaming, may your next one come soon! :goodvibes

Thanks for the report.
That model is only about 2 inches narrower than doors and openings are required to be (although many are wider, some, like buses and boats are about the minimum required).
I did see someone at AK with one of those same scooters. Although he looked pretty comfortable riding it, I noticed the scooter only fit in certain spots in shows because it was so long. It also took up a lot of space in pathways, especially at that park, which is kind of tight.

Thank you so much for your report. That is really valuable information to have. I hope the rest of your trip was enjoyable. And good on your mom for giving the rude cm's a talking to. They certainly deserved it. And thanks as well for reminding us of the very helpful cm's as well. They definitely are the keepers of the Disney magic.

There was another report on the Dream scooter awhile back. The man who rented it was a taller man, so he needed something bigger, but he also commented that it was trickier to drive. I'm so glad they were able to switch you out for something that would better meet your needs! Sounds like overall you had a really good trip.

i saw a few of these in the parks a couple weeks ago, and NO ONE was ever on them. they were always parked outside stores and attractions... i realize some people need to get up and walk, me among them, but when i never saw people using them i figured they may be more trouble than they are worth!

also, they sit up so high that i bet they would be troublesome in some wheelchair viewing spots in theatres... while i wish i could sit as high as i normally stand, no one would let me stand in the front row of a theatre.

basically i think it looks cool but may not be practical for the crowds there
