As someone who has never posted on this board, but lurked for a while, I have to agree with the OP. I love the attitude on the FW board. You all seem to get along, and when you don't you are able to disagree in a civilized manner. Be careful or you might get banned for not acting like true DISers

Just to add... I've been lurking because I might have finally convinced my SO to try camping. I grew up camping and love it. I'm a historian/reenactor and spend a lot of time under canvas at events, but my SO has never really been into the idea. I've convinced her to let me start putting together the necessary items to give it a try. I've talked with her about FW and she seems to like the idea.

LOL. No need, I like it. I was given this name a long time ago by a friend who liked a caveman impression I used to do. He named me after one of the cavemen in the Far Side cartoons. I was actually surprised it wasn't taken as the DIS was already a busy place when I got here.

Thanks. It won't be as soon as we'd like though. I had to have surgery back in June and two months being off work on short term disability helped eat into our savings, so we're not planning anything for 2011. We're hoping for early 2012 and will use next year to get our camping gear together and give it a couple of test runs

I don't know that there is an actual thread about it, but if there is, it would be on the Podcast board. Pete ends every podcast with the words "Stay out of the damn lakes!" because there are signs at the beaches at WDW that say no swimming, but people still go in there...totally disregarding the signs. Supposedly you aren't supposed to swim in the lakes due to the weird amoebas that dwell on the bottom of the lake, or something like that!

For all the razzing we give each other on this board, it's mostly done with good humor. When it starts getting tense, our Mod's do a good job of shutting threads down. Sometimes they shut it down before I can get my licks in, but hey....life sucks that way!!

Some of the other boards get downright brutal. I stay away from them & stick close to my camping board & my Fiends.

I have to say...I'm a little surprised.

There's a thread going on Theme Parks now which has essentially turned into a 20 page pissing contest about party entry time.

I'm not looking. I'm taking Deb's advice and staying "home".

First time posting in Camping, though I lurk (and will definitely make use of this forum on our next trip to WDW, when we definitely plan to stay at FW). We would stay there this time, but FIL gave us a week of his timeshare, which finally convinced DH to go. Sounds like you guys have a LOT of fun!!!


But I did want to say that most of those brutal comments on BB were from the same 2 or 3 people. There were several others who offered some really great advice and stuck up for the OP. I don't want to few bad ones to give the whole group a bad name.

And FWIW, that thread has been closed and at least one person "suspended" from DISboards. I agree that there's no need for people to be so nasty and judgmental.

I agree the whole group shouldn't be lumped together. Also, I would like to add that PM's were exchanged last night and this morning ..... apologies were given and accepted. Fresh starts and great conversation have begun. All is well. Well, except for the one that got a time out.

Those of you curious about the BB thread....the worst comments were deleted yesterday and some the day before if I have my info correct. It's not worth wasting a half day reading and getting upset anyway.

This would be a great time to let go of this issue and get on with some Fort/Fort Fiend loving good times.

As Deb would say..."Life's too short so enjoy the Fort".

i was reading a thread on "theme park strategies" about fast passes being sold/not available/etc. 7+ pages of posts JUST TODAY with nothing more than folks bashing each other because they have an opinion. EEEEKKKK!!!! it's just sad to me that there's that much hatefulness in the world, amd people who want to start a fight with someone behind a computer, especially at the happiest place on earth.
