going to wdw in november w/ a relative newbie. she's never been to any of the sit-downs & i'd like her to see some. too expensive & time-consuming to have full meals so i'd like to take her for just dessert. should i get a ps (HATE them -- soooooo miss reservations!) or just drop in? say on the sci-fi or 50's prime time?

You can always stop by those restaurants the day you wish to dine to check in for a PS the same day. I would probably do that and don't worry about just enjoying dessert. Many folks choose to do that in order to sample as many WDW restaurants as possible! :)

You don't say when in November you will be going. Thanksgiving the parks will be busy, so the restaurants could be busy. If such is the case, a priority seating may be necessary. However, if you are going when the parks are not as busy, then I see no reason for a priority seating. However, you do take a chance. Many times, I have walked in with no PS. A PS is not a reservation. You may still have to wait.

When we go to Epcot, we head over to France and get pastries and some wine or coffee round 7:00. It's just getting dark and we sit on the French street with the wonderful music playing. Feels like you are really there! It's our favorite dessert place.

Why?? Really curious about what the difference is between reservations and priority seatings that would effect the customer?

Reservations mean I make an appointment for 2:00 p.m. & show up at 1:50-2:00 p.m. & get my table. (Showing up even one minute early is a sort of guess & a courtesy to the restaurant so they're not holding the table if I'm ready to be seated.) Priority seating means I get the 1st available table AFTER that time. I have waited 30-40 minutes before I gave up & walked away. People made tons of ressies & didn't show & punctual people like me are penalized for it by being given no guarantees that when I show up a table will be available. Grrrr. HATE PS. Messes up my whole day when all I want to do is share a restaurant w/ a newbie friend or have a few moments of quiet before rushing out to the park life again. Okay, can someone please lend a hand, this soapbox is very high & I'm afarid I'll topple off.

LOL (about the soap box)- Thank you for the explaination. I've only been during slower times and I've never waited more then 10 mins to be seated, usually seated before the actual PS time. I suppose if I waited really long a couple of times, I'd be unhappy about PS as well.

O.K. This is the first time I am saying this on these boards...at my house we say PS stands for :
P retty S oon you'll be
P romptly Seated...and if you believe that you are
P retty S tupid! :teeth:

As you can imagine, we had a bit of time on our hands waiting for our PS at Sci Fi for DS birhtday. I had made the PS a month in advance for 7 p.m. explaining it was a bday dinner, explained that again at check-in... waited 55 minutes for our PS, we were getting pretty darn hungry now that it was almost 8 p.m. (this was the first week of August) no happy birthday, etc. When we sang to our son on our own, our waitress came by and said, Oh, if you had told the desk it was a birthday I would have had a few goodies for your son! We had a blast there tho, food was really good, kids loved the car/drive in thing. Luckily DS did n't know that we had tried to arrange a birthday deal, he just enjoyed it. It was worth the wait, but I know what you mean, it can be frustrating.
However...this time we are going over Christmas, and you betcha I made PS's! And I will be grateful that I did!
I hope you are able to try the places you like, I think it is a great idea to try desserts out at places. Heck, we go for dessert at places at home here, why not at WDW?

and what may be on this heavenly sounding platter? low-cal stuff, no doubt! :hyper:

Have to agree with Superman. The desserts are expensive, but worth it and also a very lovely presentation. Mostly chocolate things but they are sooo good. We made (yea we really had to force 'em) each of our children get a different one so we could try as many as we could.

VERY YUMMY! :D

haven't been to wdw in 3 years :( but i remember that the sci-fi diner had a terrific pound cake thingy w/ whipped cream & berries -- de-lish!

awful that you had to treat your kids so terribly... :teeth:

At Alfredo's they have an appitizer and dessert sampler that are fantastic!! DH and I are planning to make meals of these 2 things!! They are both quiet expensive, ($23.00 for appetizer, not sure about dessert sampler. I swear I am drawing a blank on the dessert, the appetizer was, meats, cheeses, olives, and breads!!
