we will be staying at a friends condo for a couple of days at HH. Can we go and visit our "home" yet not stay there? Just a thought.

Are you saying you're DVC members at HH but haven't stayed there yet and would like to see the resort while you're on the island?

I certainly would think so. They no longer have a sales staff at HH, but I'm certain that if you check with the front desk they'd be happy to give you a map and let you look around. (Unless security won't allow it anymore).

In any case, it won't hurt to ask.

I'm sure if you identify yourself as a member and want to look around you'll have no problem doing so. I'd check at the front desk and see if you can see a room, they will usually let you if there is one open. Check out the lodge, walk the paths, go out the pier, see the pool and visit the mercantile exchange. Also go to the Beach House and check it out but you may want to check with the front desk to make sure you'll be able to get inside. You are not permitted day use of the facilities like the pool. When we go anywhere, I usually go check out timeshares and many times just look around, go to the desk and ask for a map, visit the pool and the like. When there's a guard house, I've always been welcomed everywhere except at Horizons in Orlando where they said we couldn't even park and walk by the pool. Our only option to see the resort was to go to the sales desk and take a tour. I said "screw that" and made a U turn. I guess in retrospect I should have said OK and parked then just went and looked around but with the family in tow that trip, I decided not to.

When in Orlando, we usually go and at least look around the resorts to see what has changed, what's in the gift shop and maybe have a lunch. I love doing this. We were in HI and I must have checked out 15 timeshares. We did the tour at 3, stayed in 2, 2 had a drop in unit with an informal "tour" and I just drove by and parked and walked around a number of others. Usually I don't subject my family to this as they don't enjoy it as much as I do but when it's DVC, they do enjoy the informal visits.
