Deep breath, AAAARRRGHHHHH!!!
Job hunting is soooooo stressful!
Lost my job at the start of the year and trying to find a new one but there is hardly anything suitable here, and when there is, after applying you get either crickets or a few days later the standard " Due to the high number of applicants, you have not been successful" . I have 30+ years of experience. WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT PEOPLE????? Add to that my well meaning mum asking every few days if I have a job yet.
AAAAAAARRRRGGHHHH!
Thank you, I feel a bit better now

I’m sorry to hear this - very stressful for you.
My DH has lost a job in the past and the stress can be crushing, so I definitely understand. Keep the faith and keep persevering and you will have success with finding a job.
Take care and God Bless

Jobs are tough now with many government and not-for-profit employees being fired and companies hesitant to hire because of the economic uncertainty. You may have to look outside your field. Consider adjacent fields where your experience can add value.
If I did my math right, you are probably in your 50s. Make sure you are projecting "young and energetic" not "old and set in my ways". Have someone look at your resume - it should emphasize your skills and experiences without giving a dated list of past jobs. Get a new haircut, wear muted makeup, buy one or two new outfits - solid color staples that mix and match not flowery or hippie flounces.
Keep your hopes up and attitude positive. Best wishes!

I'm so sorry. I have two close family members over age 50 who are looking for work due to downsizing -- both in fields that aren't really hiring. It's sucky.

I feel you. While I do still have a job, with the uncertainty of new work and funding, I am also applying for jobs. I also have like 4 different recruitment groups working with me as well.

The only 2 bites I have had so far were outside of the city. One I didn't really have any way to get to (no car) and the other would have been a 2 hour commute by bus/train and wanted 5 days a week in the office. So I passed on both.

Have you tried temporary worker agencies? They can be a way to get your foot in the door at a company. Depending on your state, you may be able to get partial unemployment based on how many days you work. Temp agencies value older employees because they tend to have more work experience.

DH was pushed into retirement in 2020. He wasn't ready, hated being home and it took several months before he landed a new position. He didn't love the new position and once he found an opening elsewhere he was able to make the jump easily.
He was very frustrated with all the ghost job listings out there -- and very put off by several firms getting free work out of him by making a "mock" project part of the application and interview process. No, they just wanted to get a task handled without paying a professional, or they were auditioning a multitude of options for how to best solve a problem without paying professionals to do the work or consult for submissions of solutions.

Best of luck to you.

30 years experience is a negative in a working world where managers often aren't even 30 years old. My final years working before retirement were marked by managers who had never ever done my job. I often called these people "management track" employees. And part of that is what a manager is expected to do has changed. They know EEOC, HR, and DEI policies and laws and they don't know what it takes to do the work the people they supervise do, or how they have to do it.

Good managers don't necessarily need to know how to do their employees job. But they do need to respect that employees know how to do it. Their role isn't to do the job, it's to manage the employees.

That does seem to be the attitude these managers have. Given staffing levels these days that is not realistic. One flu outbreak, if managers can't step in, work doesn't get done.
Policy at my last employer changed vastly in the 16 years I was there in this regard. MANAGERS worked Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years so EMPLOYEES could have the holiday off. When I retired, MANAGERS were off on ALL holidays, and EMPLOYEES had to step up and cover their jobs. That often involved overtime. Just poor management IMHO.

Employees had to "cover" the jobs they were assigned to do? Sorry, you're not making sense. "Back in the day", there were multiple people required to put on a newscast, much less multiple newscasts throughout the day. How many managers did you have that they could do the work and employees got the day off?

I was at a smallish station and before automation went in, there was still at least 4-5 people in the newsroom for each show and the same amount in production. At least two shifts, and you're looking at 20 people to cover all of the newscasts. You had that many managers?

Boy has that changed! The current staffing at my old station for the 2 hours of weekend morning news is three people. Producer, Director, Anchor. Weather is recorded remotely and fed in from the hub. Sports is recorded locally the night before. Oh, next month, they are eliminating Directors. AI and Producer will be responsible for covering that.
Employees had to cover their MANAGERS jobs on holidays. News Director, Assistant News Director and Assignment Manager work had to be picked up by the Producers and Assignment Editor. Assignment editor had to do all the staffing setup, planning for the morning meeting and running the morning editorial meeting (leaving the assignment desk unmanned during the morning meeting) that the Assignment Manager normally did . Producers have to take on the News Directors job of deciding which stories to cover, in what form, by which staff. Producers had to cover for the Assistant News Director and decide which stories were going to go to the 5, 6 and 630 shows and in what form. Also what if any network stories will be in the local newscasts, and what if any evergreen (aka HFRs) will be pulled off the shelf. And on holidays, you will burn up a few HFR stories.

I hear you! Join the club. I lost my job during the pandemic when our company closed and after three plus years, I am still looking. I have 25 years experience. I get the same thing, total ghosting or the form letter. I haven’t had a single interview yet. It is so discouraging! I think it’s a combination of they don’t want to pay for the experience (although I am willing to take a pay cut) and a bit of age discrimination (although I am nowhere near retirement age yet). I have about a year left of savings and then I don’t know what I am going to do.

I wish you good luck and hope you find something soon. :grouphug:

Ghost job listing's should be illegal IMHO

Yep, I'm 53. My resume does have dates of last jobs, but here in UK ( at least where I'm applying ) they ask for it.
I wore black "work" trousers in the only interview I've had with solid colour top as advised on lots of "What to wear to job interview" sites, but nada

Agree, I think it's either my age, or my autism too but they're not allowed to discriminate so just give you that old " Due to the high number if applicants, you have been unsuccessful.... etc
I have about 17 yrs to retirement but fortunately do get a bit from the government- less than £100 a week but better than nothing.
Do hope you get something soon, a year of savings sounds terrifying
