just took gun safety class

I don't know much about the Judge, but if it shoots a 45 caliber round, that is a huge round. It was originally designed for calvary troops to stop a horse, so I'm not sure what some of you are saying that it wouldn't have adequate stopping power? :confused3 A 45 caliber pistol round will stop a bull.

The elongated design of the Judge allows the weapon to fire both a .410 shotgun shell or a .45 cartridge. The personal defense load is in a .410 shell and shoots 4 .32 caliber buckshot pellets and some smaller 6 shot pellets. Because it is a shotgun shell the pattern disperses somewhat and therefore the force of the shot is much less than the .45. That is the issue being discussed.

Also the Browning 1911A pistol was actually commisioned as the standard sidearm for the army after they were involved in a conflict in the Phillipines prior to 1911. I seemed the native Maro ( i think) warriors would get up for battle by chewing on coca leaves and when they would attack the then standard .38 pistol round that the army used would not stop them. You could empty 6 shots in them and they just kept on coming, so the army sought a heavier weapon and Mr. John Browning delivered the .45 semi auto pistol.

The responses were related to the posters who believed that using the Judge with .410 shotgun shells as a defensive weapon. People 'hear' shotgun shell' and think that you can simply fire in the general direction and stop the bad guy. Tests show differently.

Regarding using the weapon with a .45 long colt shell, it would do the job, but with huge accuracy problems. There are many other weapons that would do it better and more often.

OMGosh I can't imagine living without several guns in my home. About a mile from my house, 2 of my best friends boyhood home, their elderly father lived there, just about a year ago was shot and killed right in his house by 4 little juvenile thugs. Where on earth do you live where you never have home invasion/ murders. I thought that happened everywhere? :confused3It certainly happens here and I live in a pretty small town. That kind of thing can happen anywhere, even some rural place, because sometimes robbers will target these types of homes, knowing they will be unprepared or the police isn't really around or close.

I'm very sorry to hear about your friends father....that is awful.
I didn't say we never have home invasions/murders where I live. We do. ......I'm just not comfortable with having guns in the household. Guns get stolen from homes.
In Ontario, Canada, a licensed hunter can get a gun permit once he has completed the gun safety program. However, regular civilians can not get a permit to own a gun just because they want one. That is fine with me. The less guns we have on the street means a lesser number of people can get harmed.:)

I own a "Judge" I love it, I don't believe all that talk about it not having enough stopping power, simply put your not going to be using it at a distance. I've shot enough stuff with it to know that it can penetrate enough to kill, I shoot "personal defense" load.

If you are asleep when an intruder enters, you will not be very alert when aiming, the "Judge" solves the problem of aiming, and in the length of a room I have no doubts that it will be effective.

Congradulations and good shooting.

Paul

I saw what the man on the target looked like after I fired the Judge. Many holes, enough to stop whatever you need!! My class was taught by a local police chief so I think he knows what he is talking about

7 shot 20-gauge pump in bedroom closet, Ruger LCR in nightstand on wifes side, and Springfield Armory XD-M 9mm in belt holster for concealed carry. Carry a concealed weapon legally is a good idea if your properly trained. Just ask the guy who tried to hold me up at knife point pumping gas late one night last year.

I've always heard "don't bring a knife to a gun fight!"

When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns

We have a neighbor who had a home invasion not long ago. 3 thugs armed with a AK47 broke into their house during the night. The home owner grabbed his wife's 22 pistol & a gun battle broke out. 2 of the thugs were hit, one fatally. The home owner & his family were safe. Turned out it was a teenager that they had been foster parents too that arranged the break-in. We can't ever know when it could be us. Some of us will be ready!

brerrabbit, I have an 870 with a chopped barrel, too, but it has such a big kick (even when it's properly shouldered) that I just don't like shooting it. Nevertheless, it's behind the bedroom door.

Though I really like the Glock 9mm and 10mm, my son recommends a revolver. I'm planning to get my CWP as soon as I get one.

I am a little too small to handle a shotgun very well. The Judge gives me the best of both worlds. My 38 fits well in my purse though

A good alternative although it would cost more would be the semi auto 1170 with the short barrel. Hardly any kick and you do lose the effect of racking a shell. However it would still get the job done. Could also drop to a 20 gauge. My hand gun is a S&W M&P .45 auto. It does quite well also.
