My kids have been begging me to make a countdown calendar! Can you tell me how you did these? I don't have photoshop or anything and whenever I try to put a design in Word, it makes it too small!

Thank you,
Sonya

Hi Sonya,

I used powerpoint to make theses. Just open up a new calendar template and what i did was inserted the pictures as a background and then made them slightly transparent so that the calendar boxes were more visable.

Of course I won't laugh - honestly you should have seen me trying to work it out!:rotfl:

Once you have opened up powerpoint (not sure what version you have I have 2007) I click on the big "Office Button" at the top left hand side (think it may be under "File" if an older version). Click "new" and another window should open up with different templates. Down the list on the left hand side there should be "calendars". I chose the blank white one. The Sat and Sun were shaded grey so in order to make these transparent - highlight them and right click. There will be a box for text font, size colour etc. Click on the arrow next to the little paint pot. You should then have a little grid for colours. There should be "no fill" command there. If you click on this it takes your shaded areas out and you can then start importing pictures for background, changing your text font etc.

I hope I have explained that well enough. If you PM me your email addy and the months you would like and what you would like it to say if your happy with the pictures I have I could give it a go for you? You can let me know.

Thank you so much!! Ok, I did the calendar part...got it downloaded and took the highlighting out:banana: !! Now, I went to insert and inserted a picture, but it just puts it right on top of the calendar and I can't figure out how to stretch it (the little lines that usually stretch won't stretch, they only move it to other parts of the calendar).....so anyway, my question is....can you walk me through the process of adding the picture, making it fill the whole calendar and then making it transparent!

Thank you for the offer of doing them, but I am so excited to learn how to do this!

Thanks again,
Sonya

Oki doki!

To insert the picture as a background click on the "Design" tab at the top this should bring up a row of all the backgrounds that are pre-designed. To the far right there will be a tab "Background Styles" click on this and it will bring up a window with more backgrounds underneath will be "Format Backgrounds" the next window you want to click on "Picture or texture fill".

This brings up another window which allows you to click on "file" and find the picture you want to use. Double click on the file you want to use and this should automatically insert it as a background.

Now if you want to make it more transparent there is a slider bar with "transparency" on the same window that you click for "file" selection.

I really hope I have explained that well enough - I had to do it as I was typing!:rotfl:

Well I guess I am not going to be able to do it. My version is Powerpoint 2003 (the student version) says I need to have the office version. It will bring up templates that I can use, but when click on the window to download my own it won't do it.

I am going to keep playing with it.....I guess worse case scenario I could print a background and then put it back thru and print the calendar on top, but I don't think it will show up because the background will be so dark??

I just wanted to thank you for helping me!!

Sonya

Aww that is ashame.....

Well please don't hesitate to PM me your details if you can't get something sorted and I will see what I can do.

Take care

Carreen,

Can you tell me which version of Microsoft Office you have (Student, Standard, Professional? I have been wanting to upgrade but have been putting it off. I downloaded the trial version of the Professional, but it won't let me do anything with it. Any function I try to do a little note pops up and says "In order to use this function, you must upgrade to the full version"........I'm like....uhhhh....ok, then what was the point of offering a trial version if you can't do anything with it??!!

Thanks,
Sonya

Hey Sonya,

Yeah my hubbies laptop has the trial version and it keeps saying that so I just use my PC for Powerpoint. I think its just the Standard version I have. To be honest I have never checked - honestly I am totally dumb when it comes to this stuff - usually leave it all to DH, but after finding this board I have become more interested in what things I can attempt to do other than surfing the net and word processing!:rotfl:

Its downloading from the share file fine for me so thats all I can think of?

Sorry I'm not the greatest with computers either i'm afraid
