Just thinking... why are BWV dues higher than BCV?

On this dreary cold day I'm getting some tax things together and was looking at our dues for BWV which have gone up over $1.00 per point since we purchased in 2003. I then looked up BCV dues and they are almost .25 less which is a difference of about $75.00 a year on our contracts. Over the course of the years of ownership this could add up.

I realize this is not a large amount but just wondered why. I realize the Boardwalk is a larger property but that would seem to spread out the cost instead of make it more. BCV has Stormalong Bay and BWV has the Boardwalk which are both expensive to maintain. BCV also sells for more per point on the resale market.

.... any thoughts?
 
The large majority of the Boardwalk resort is made up of DVC rooms so we are picking up the majority of the costs associated with the resort. The BCV are a much smaller percentage and therefore they are picking up a smaller percentage of the costs associated with the resort.
 
I would think that because SAB costs are spread over Yacht Club and BC (both large properties) that the costs to BCV owners would be minimized. The costs for maintaining the BW and Luna pool are only shared by BWV and BW Inn.
I noted the difference in dues as well. Some DVCers had a decrease in dues this year! We have 920 BWV points on which to pay dues, so it does add up! Nonetheless, I love being able to call at 11 months for reservations there, so I am willing to pony up the additional costs.
ETA: As a fellow MN resident, WDW2003, I know you understand why I am not complaining about dues when I will be escaping MN for a BW view room this Saturday!
 
Lucky you! Wish we were escaping this cold snap. I don't think we will be going again until next year :sad2: Enjoy that Boardwalk view - it's my favorite also (but SSR Congress Park DTD is a close second!) Thanks to you for the clarification on the dues... I guess it makes sense.
 

True dues are higher but you make it back via the standard room points are 20% less that a room at BCV.
 
Another frozen Minnesotan here, I wonder if some of the cost increase came from some aging issues at BWV? Didn't they have a lot of water pipe problems etc for a while? Anyway BCV will go up as well as aging occurs I would assume. I think the difference in dues between resorts are just a drop in the bucket when comparing what we all spend on these journeys "home" anyway.
 
Your dues difference is largely the result of an out-of-court settlement stemming from the infamous Bozo copyright infringement lawsuit of 2004.

My recollection is that repair work was all warranty work and didn't cost BWV owners anything. Or maybe I'm imagining reading that. :confused3

Some of the contractors reworked their stuff as warranty. I know the siding issues were warranty, not dues - not sure about the pipes.

I can't remember who, but someone went round and round with Disney over the transportation costs for the two resorts - BWV owners pay more in dues for transportation. It has to do with the way Disney chooses to do cost accounting.

Yeah the 11 month window is nice but this year I was trying to book 3 weeks during Oct/NOV and waited for a week past the exact day and could not get most of my stay in the standard view!

Sad to say that day-by-day reservations at EXACTLY 11 months have become a necessity for popular DVC times. I do it routinely now, even though I dislike having to go through those hoops. I am just thankful that I don't have to sweat out a waitlist! I am one of those anal people who likes to have my vacation neatly packaged so I can shop for cheap airfare ASAP.
 
The standard point rooms would also have an effect on dues at BWV. If you look at the dues on a per room basis, for example a studio during adventure season.

BCV = $57.56 (12*$4.7968)

BW-sv = $45.36 (9*$5.0402)

BW-pv = $60.48 (12*$5.0402)

If you assume 80% PV and 20% SV the average dues on BWV Studio is $57.456 which is very close to BCV Dues per room (much closer than I would have expected before I just did the calculations)
 
Excellent point, johde! :teacher: Never thought about the effect of the cheaper rooms on overall maintenance costs!
 
When I purchased HH and BWV - they both had the lowest maintenance fees. Now they are amongst the highest. The past don't not predict the future when dealing with maintenance fees.
