The Cast:

Alex (that's me): Male, 29, the compulsive planner in the family. First Disney trip since 1987!

Crystal (DW): Female, 30, deprived of her childhood dreams, making her first visit ever.

Tuesday, October 2: USF

Weather: so much sun we could have used a parasol, low 80s

Today was the only scheduled non-Disney day of our vacation, which we spent at Universal Studios Florida and CityWalk with a 9pm reservation at Emeril's. We arrived in time for gate opening and headed straight for Men In Black, but it was temporarily down. This became a theme throughout the day. We also experienced technical difficulties riding Jaws, and Kongfrontation was down for rehab (which I believe is indirectly related to the events of 9/11). In spite of the occasional breakdowns, we were able to ride everything in the park with no waiting, except for a 20-minute queue at Hanna Barbera. DW and I liked MIB and Twister the best. We saw most of the shows, and we especially enjoyed the Hollywood Horror Make-Up Show. It was hilarious!

To be honest, we were more impressed with the architecture at USF than we were with the rides themselves. The storefronts were so realistic that we found ourselves trying to enter empty buildings thinking there were shops or exhibits inside. The UG touring plan worked well for us here. We completed the last attraction on the list just as the park was closing.

By far the highlight of our day at Universal was Emeril's. After doing some window shopping at CityWalk and catching Zoolander at the movie theater, we reported for our 9pm ressie. It was the best meal we have ever eaten. Everything was perfectly prepared and seasoned and I can honestly say that it was NOT overpriced considering how great everything was. Our check including appetizer, dinner, drinks and dessert was just over $100 for the two of us. Expensive, yes, but when you consider the fact that we spent 20 bucks for fast food burgers and nachos earlier in the day, it really was not that expensive in relative terms.

Tomorrow, the long awaited day at MK!

When we went to Emeril's it also cost us $100. But we went for lunch!!

Sounds like a fun day at Universal.

I also would like to try Emeril's some day, but I'm afraid I wouldn't like anything on the menu. Did they have some basics for picky eaters like me?

:)

There are a lot of complicated things on the Emeril's menu, many of which I could not pronounce. There are also some species of fish I have never heard of. However, there are a couple of "normal" items on the menu, among them the double cut pork chop, which is what I had.
