Just switched from the GF to FW Cabin...

My DDs love riding in the golf cart. My youngest DD loves to take her fixings and have smores while watching the movie. You may want to consider ADRs for either the Backyard Barbecue or HDDR. We love both but my girls enjoyed dancing with the characters when little, but now a little older never want to miss HDDR. Tell Snickers the pony hi for us! I have such fun memories of my DD riding Snickers.

If you rented the car - where did the bikes come from?

We bring our bikes if we drive down, but am considering flying when we stay in the cabins. I'd miss having the bikes!

We drove down from CT in our Minnie Winnie, so the bikes came with us. We didn't want to break camp each day (no toad either), so a rental car was the best option for us... as we don't have the patience for the buses:)
I did see many people renting bikes at the Meadows Trading Post... not sure about the cost. I hope you find an arrangement that works for you!

I kinda' wonder if the GF appeals to the majority of Disney travelers. I have swithched resorts a lot, and every time I called the GF had every type of room available. We tried the WL villas, rooms at the Poly, POR, the CR, and AK villas, all of which were no longer available on the dates we had selected, yet the GF was always wide open! I guess it could be because it's so pricey.
I'm not a millionaire either, and even if I was I wouldn't be caught dead in Penny loafers or pastel sweaters! *gag* It's keens, shorts, and homemade t-shirts for The Monkey Bugs- sounds like we chose the right resort!!!

So will I be banned from the Fort if I happen to own pastel sweaters and penny loafers? I promise not to pack them.

:)

I also own Keens, a camelback and a fair amount of North Face.

I think the GF looks spectacular. Is it where I'd want to go on a FAMILY vacation? Nope. DH and I alone, absolutely. I wonder if that is why it has more open spots (that and the cost of course!).

Although... I'd probably try the Poly first as we would never be able to go there as a family, we're too big. If I were to spring for a deluxe for the whole crew it'd be BC, Boardwalk, OKW, SSR, and then WL. WL is lovely but we are from Seattle and we have WL type places here that DH and sneak away too so...would rather be somewhere more different. Still though, the cost difference just isn't worth it. We have so much more fun in a casual setting than the "fancy" hotel where I'm worried about noise, teens who don't want to get out of bed and make me feel stranded in the room, etc.

I do find it awfully annoying that there is only one moderate option for a group of 6, but am thrilled its the fort!

That said, DSD and I are headed to the GF for a Valentines day pedicure (she got to pick where) and I am looking forward to checking it out. Maybe DH and I can go there for an anniversary some day.

If you and DSD really want to do a girl's day, look into the tea room at GF. Heard nothing but good things.

Ooh - I twisted DH's arm this past trip and we did tea at GF. It was great! We did the "Disney transport shuffle" to get there (some combination of boats and monorail) and it was a lovely, leisurely afternoon.

DH got a tasty, strong "manly" tea... :rotfl: and for food we had a great combination of the little tea sandwiches and a really yummy cheese plate. I wasn't sure what to expect (and DH was totally humoring me) but we both really enjoyed it a lot!

Now that is a good man. :thumbsup2

Uh-oh...thats it....youre done!!! Welcome to Fort Fiendism!!!! :)
Yep, that's when you know you're done. LOL
Usually on our stays (mostly value- one time at GF for a short stay before cruise though) we always do park, park, park, park (and so on) and then either cruise or go home. This time I'm like hmmm, how can we get 4 park days (one at each) when we really want days at FW also. LOL It's definitely a switch for us... to go from park commando every day to trying to "fit in" time to go to the parks. LOL

We just changed our July 11-18 res. from WL to a cabin at FW. We also got the great military rate that WDW is currently offering, (saved over $1000 off the reg rate for the season). I wanted to try WL, but DS, 13, DH & myself just couldn't pass up FW! We have camped in our 5th wheel several times at FW. We love it there! We are traveling with friends, also military,(he is currently deployed, and this will be his R&R trip) , they have 2 boys ages 9 & 14. The boys will have so much fun, and DS can't wait to see the new pool! We plan to spend alot of time at the resort!:lovestruc
