Just switched from SSR to POR, was I really silly to do that?

DH booked us at SSR (1 bedroom) and I called earlier tonight and changed to POR to save the $$ (less after they charged the $50 change fee, and $10 "handling fee" --what is that, byw :confused3 I fully grasp the $50 change fee, but just what are they 'handling' for $10? lol)

Now I am kicking myself for being so frugal. I was tempted to call back and ask for SSR again. DH just shook his head and said it was worth the extra $$ (esp. since we're going for our anniversary) to stay at SSR for the bigger room, etc. I agree, but I guess I am just weak when it comes to spending :sad2:

I am soooo tempted to call back for SSR. It's a quick trip (4 days) so the savings isn't monumental, but having never stayed at SSR before, I guess I just don't know what I am missing. Now though, I am thinking I shouldn't call back since I already "lost" the $60 as it is changing it once already.

What to do, what to do. :sad1:

I say what's done is done. POR is beautiful and romantic and you are saving money. Have a wonderful trip!

OMG - You sound just like me. I started out wanting a quick 4 day trip to F&WF late Sept.with only me and my husband - got 4 nights at A/S for $234.
Called my husband and he said to check Boardwalk or Beach Club. I questioned him (was I stupid??) - it's like $600 more. He said sure. So I booked BC. Well I couldn't leave well enough alone. That $600 kept gnawing at me. I posted on the DVC R/T site for a studio at a cost of apprx. $400 or the 4 nights. No luck...except at SSR.

So, I have someone who can reserve it for me tomorrow, but for almost twice as much I could stay closer to the action...

I think I'm going to go through with SSR studio, save some money, still get a deluxe room and I'll feel better about the money.

You will love POR. We've stayed there 3 times now and have never had anything to complain about except the pizza - stay away from it. It's a family favorite.

Don't worry - you can't make a mistake! Both SSR and POR are beautiful, but in my opinion there isn't a clearcut advantage of one over the other. A one bedroom would be nice, but SSR is very large and spread out, and the extra space may not be as important to you with only 2 people. POR is very romantic, with lots of pretty walks available. (We like to walk to POFQ for beignets in the early morning, then catch a park bus from there.)

You can't go wrong with either option, so relax and have fun!:cloud9:

Well, I do have to say that there's quite a difference between a SSR 1-bedroom villa and a POR room. In the SSR villa, you'd have a king bed, a jacuzzi tub, a washer and dryer, and a full kitchen, complete with pots, pans, dishes, etc. TVs in living room and bedroom. Full-size sofa bed in the living room. If you've got kids with you, having that extra room can be invaluable. It's not in any way comparable to a moderate room.

Only you can decide if those extra amenities are worth the extra money to you, though.

If you're considering switching to an SSR studio, there's not such a huge difference. In a studio you'd get a queen bed and a sofa bed, and a kitchenette. In a POR room, you've got two double beds and a fridge. If it were me, I'd still take the SSR studio because I hate having the only window opening up to the walkway outside the room at the moderates, so I have to keep my curtains closed all the time.

I just love POR! I have stayed at the POLY, BWI and AKL, but rank POR up there with them in terms of landscaping and romantic walks. The rooms are not as big, but for 2 people it is more than fine. I don't think you can go wrong there and plan to go there the trip after this next - which is to the BC for DGD to play in the pool.... If it was just me, thought, I would have booked POR this time....

We love POR, more than any other resort. The grounds are beautiful and walking along the river is so peaceful. I also llike the food court and Piano Bob in the lounge is great free entertainment! But now that we are DVC owners, we only stay there once in a while. Yes, the rooms at SSR one bed room are large and that jacuzzi tub is my favorite, and the kingsize bed wow. But if I had to do a cash reservation for any of the DVC villas, I wouldn't. It is too expensive and you can spend the money on something else.

I have never paid a fee for changing a reservation. What is that all about? Is that something new?

Maybe enjoy POR and go to SSR next time? Or, if you're really going to be unhappy switch again. See I can't even decide what you should do! :(

I know the feeling! You'll have a great trip no matter what though.

I have to agree that POR is fantastic. I'd like to know why people would spend the extra money going to Wilderness Lodge when it seems like an incredibly enclosed resort. With POR its so huge and sprawling with a long river walk. Can anyone please advise why you would stay at either AK or Wilderness over POR given they are both considerably smaller and enclosed?

people on these boards rave about POR so we are trying it but I gotta say, I have stayed at SSR and there is no way I would give that up! We fell in love with that resort and btw, had excellent quick bus service everyday! (Jan 2007) and always felt plenty surrounded by not only a posh resort but plenty of Disneyness as well.

For me it comes down to older single room verses practically new fancy room (s) with bigger comfy beds?

Guess I will find out in a few weeks how POR is!

It's just a different flavor. Not sure what you mean by enclosed though. WL made be a smaller resort but wait until you walk through the lobby. The sheer size of that is awe inspiring. I believe both resorts were designed by the same architect and both are definitely the best themed resorts. I've never felt enclosed :confused3 at either one.

Op POR is a great resort. I don't think personally I would have given up the extra space but you will really enjoy POR. Look at it this way, now you have another excuse to go back. :woohoo:

Well, I stay at WL because it's considerably smaller and enclosed. :)

I don't care for the outside walkways at the moderates because of the lack of privacy if you keep your curtains open, and I don't care for resorts where you have to walk half a mile just to get a snack and a soda. WL is plenty big enough for me!

I would go to SSR if it was me. The 1 bedroom villas are extrordinary. I have not stayed at POR, but I have stayed at POFQ and I loved it. That said, it does not compare to a DVC villa. You will have a small room, only double beds and a small frige. There is no patio or balcony, just a public walkway ourside your door. At SSR you would have 2 rooms a complete kitchen with a full size refrig (Just breakfast in your room will save you money), a King size bed and a Jacuzzi tub, and a complete living room.
You just can't compare the two.
Have a great trip whichever you decide.
