Just spoke to Disney regarding FIRES

there are quite a few threads in regards to the fire and smoke issues going on down south...and in alot of them people are using Magic Mountain as one of the parks they would refrain from going to...I am not going to MM but I have to travel through it to get to DL and if US and Knotts arent closed I dont know why anyone would think MM would be because its North of LA...Ive been checking the CA hwy road condition reports and there is absolutely nothing showing for anywhere around Santa Clarita and Valencia (where MM is) so if anyone is planning on going there I wouldnt worry too much...the fires would have to go clear through to LA before it reaches MM....in other words...QUIT SCARIN ME PEOPLE...im leavin in the morning:mad: :cool2: :lmao:

I dont have any facts at all about this. The girl at DL (phone) told me other parks have evacuated. She couldnt give me details. My hubby called knotts and the phone rang and rang... then hung up on him. He was going to try again but I dont think he has yet. Anyone have actual facts to share? I agree that it is scary to read here! I am scaring me most of all! We leave tomorrow, too!

I do not know if Magic Mountain is closed. However, a large fire started close to Magic Mountain at about 2:30 pm Monday. In television coverage Monday you could see the Magic Mountain roller coasters in the back ground. I believe this is in the Stephenson Ranch area. There is a large fire in the Magic Mountain area.

Magic Mountain is only open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.:)
(this time of year)

There have been several fires burning in the area near Magic Mountain since Sunday, including the one named the Magic fire due to the proximity to the park. I have several relatives who live in the area. All area schools have been closed since yesterday. Magic Mountain is only open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at this time of year. There have been frequent road closures in this area. I would not advise going into this area due to the extreme smoke and ash.

I would be surprised if Knott's was closed, but could not find info on their website. They are no closer to fires than DLR. Still, if you can cancel without penalty, I would due to the poor air quality. I live in Fullerton about 20 minutes from DLR and our schools have kept the children indoors for recess and lunch due to the poor air quality.

I just read that they are hoping to have the San Diego fires contained by November 1. That doesn't mean they will be out by then. I would definitely NOT go to San Diego within the next couple of weeks.

I sure wish my first post on the DISboards had been about something pleasant. Best wishes to all!

Knott's is open 10:00am-5:30pm everyday in October.:thumbsup2

They are nuts. You go to their website (by googling "knotts farm" and clicking on what seems to be their homepage), click on Hours, and you get this page: http://www.knotts.com/special_events/haunt/hours.htm

Which, when you read it closely (or just read it, LOL), you see that's for their special thing. But come on Knott's...if you have a prominent "hours" link on your first page, make it your TRUE hours! Or make your special website appear to be special in the URL.

Harumph. At both them and me. :)

this is all scaring me. were going nov. 15 - 20?
is there gonna be alot of ash in the air by then? or will it all clear up?should we cancel our trip?

I just emailed Disney about possibly getting a refund or credit of some sort back since I don't think it would be a good idea to go to Mickeys Halloween Treat this Thursday for the following reasons:

1) Due to the fires, the air quality is bad out. We haven't even left our home since we were allowed to come back last night (we were evacuated late Sunday night)

2) I don't think it's a good idea to be that far away from home. Especially since we were already evacuated once and who knows if the fires might come back our way.

Anyway, has anyone else tried to do the same? Is Disney pretty good about refunds or credits?

For those coming from other parts of the country, I wouldn't worry at all about coming to Disneyland. Unless you have asthma or other breathing conditions, the smoke in the air is more an annoyance than anything else. There is ash in the air, which makes everything filthy and kinda icky, but again it's an annoyance. Disneyland is in no fire danger of any kind. There are no large open areas of brush near Disneyland and any fire would have to burn through miles of residential and industrial areas to get to the Resort, which is vastly improbable barring an end-of-the-world fire scenario. We have fires like this every few years. Knott's will be open, Disneyland will be open.

As for visiting San Diego, I would wait and see what happens in the next week. If the winds die down (as predicted for tomorrow) and fire crews are able to get a good amount of containment, visiting the area will be okay.

Don't let all of this panic you or make you cancel your trip. While there are a number of very nasty, very tragic fires, not all of So Cal is burning.

when I came home in June they were dealing with HUGE fires on the grapevine but I have to go through there to get to LA..I keep looking on the CA HWY road conditions and still dont see anything where I5 is having issues...just keeping my fingers crossed....if anyone hears anymore please let me know...

there has just been new of a new fire in action (it seems close just above la. not in la but above. so closer to dl. I have a friend who i think lives in that city she has told me she can get to disney in 10mins on good days.. so if thats her city id say its close to disney it just started at 430 today

I think that there is little to no fear of DL catching fire from an existing brush fire, it would be on a par with the chicago fire or SF during the 09 earthquake as far as devistation that would be occuring. That in no way lessens what is happening currently just an observation of what the density of the population is around DL.

Hopefully the winds will change today as expected and they can get them under control.

Prayers for those that are suffering from what is happening.

Master Mason...Im in Merced and leaving really early tomorrow am.. Im not even worried about DL being hit by the fires but I am concerned about going over the grapevine...everywhere I look I dont see any info about the GV or Santa Clarita but people here seem to be getting info that Im not finding...have you heard anything? seeing as your from Gilroy you are closer to me and I thought you might have heard...

I dont know how helpful this is... but I just went to CNN and found some video's and reports. My problem is that I am not familiar with the names they are saying (cities). Maybe it could help you, I dont know.

I just found a similar map on the LA Times website (but without all the evacuation info).

http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-firemap,0,6179739.htmlpage?coll=la-home-center

The nearest fire to DL is the Santiago Fire, which is over 20 miles away and is listed as being 30% contained.

San Diego County is a disaster area.

Near MM, the Magic Fire is 93% contained. The other north L.A. county fires (the Buckweed and the Ranch) do not look very close to the 5.

Disneyland is nowhere near Acton. It is 80 miles south from there. I can't even get to Disneyland in 10 minutes on a good day and I am around 14.5 miles away.

Disneyland is in no danger of the fires. We have a lot of smoke and ash but that is it. If you have any kind of breathing problems it might be a problem. Los Angeles county had a not outside activity warning for all the schools so we had to cancel recess today. I wouldn't cancel any plans.
